Evaluating the Efficiency of Cadmium Removal by Alginate Hydrogels from Water Using 5,7-Dibromo-8-hydroxyquinoline as a Complexing Reagent

Cadmium toxicity in wastewater is a rising concern due to industries like batteries,metallurgy,electroplating,plastic stabilizers,and *** quantitative detection of Cd^(2+)and its remediation from wastewater samples are of major concern from an environmental point of *** the present work,an effective spectrophotometric method has been reported using 5,7-dibromo-8-hydroxyquinoline(DBHQ)as a complexing agent for Cd^(2+).This method has advantages like using recyclable,less toxic solvents and easy sample *** limit of detection,limit of quantification,and sensitivity of the proposed method were found to be 33.30,36.70 mg L^(−1),and 2×10^(−3),*** DBHQ method was validated using atomic absorption spectroscopy,and the recovery percentage was more than 98%.These results indicate that DBHQ can be effectively used for monitoring Cd^(2+)in aqueous *** method developed was further employed for monitoring Cd^(2+)adsorption on calcium alginate(AL)*** adsorption studies were done to optimize parameters of Cd^(2+)removal using AL hydrogels,and the data obtained were used for kinetic and thermodynamic *** studies indicated that the pseudo-first-order model showed better fitting,and thermodynamic studies showed Freundlich-like *** maximum adsorption capacity of Cd^(2+)on AL hydrogels was found to be 56.45 mg g^(−1).The validation studies of DBHQ were performed using statistical analysis methods like t-tests and one-way variance.

patients with cirrhosis have a state of“rebalanced hemostasis”where there is a simultaneous reduction in both qualitative and quantitative properties of procoagulants and anticoagulants,i.e.,platelets,fibrinogen,coagulation factors,protein C,S,and antithrombin and conversely,there is an increase in the levels of von Willebrand factor,endothelial factor VIII,tissue plasminogen activator(t-pA),and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1(pAI-1)(1).Laboratory tests,such as INR,involving these coagulation proteins have been used for the prognostication of patients with cirrhosis/liver failure and have historically been part of several severity scores(2,3).Spontaneous bleeding due to clotting factor deficiencies is less frequent in the absence of mechanical trauma,while thrombosis is not uncommon and may merit anticoagulation therapy(4).However,the management of patients with cirrhosis with abnormalities in the hemostasis system is *** meet this unmet need,the European Association for the Study of the Liver(EASL)developed new guidelines for the prevention and management of bleeding and thrombosis in patients with cirrhosis(5).The bleeding here is referred to mucocutaneous and visceral bleeding events.

progeny evaluation of Jatropha curcas and pongamia pinnata with comparison to bioproductivity and biodiesel parameters

progeny studies of Jatropha curcas and pongamia pinnata were carried with respect to bioproductivity,pod and seed characters which is one of the selection methods in tree improvement programmes. Variations in bioproductivity and biodiesel parameters of both the plants were compared every 6 months for 4 years of investigation and analyzed by analysis of variance and correlation coefficient by pearson＇s method using software Graphpad instat 3.06（for Windows and Mac）. p. pinnata has better germination rate（71.4 %）, 100 pod weight（pW）（311.59 g） and 100 seed weight（SW）（173.46 g） as compared to J. curcas for germination rate（43.2 %）, 100 pW（111.29 g） and 100 SW（67.46 g）. p. pinnata has strong correlation for plant height to canopy growth（CG）（0.948）, collar diameter（CD）（0.994）, number of branches per plant（NBp）（0.995） and to number of leaves per branch（NLB）（0.862） as compared to *** which showed good correlation among plant height to CG（0.976）, CD（0.970）, NBp（0.988）, NLB（0.920） and to number of pods per branch（0.657）. However, J. curcas depicted negative correlation for pod breadth to seed length（SL）（-0.447）, seed breadth（-0.248） and to seed thickness（ST）（-0.364） and among the 100 pW to SL（-0.199）, ST（-0.220） and to 100 SW（-0.704）. About 4 kg of p. pinnata seeds were required for each liter of crude oil which yields896 ml of biodiesel on transesterification as compared to5.66 kg of J. curcas seeds for a liter of crude oil, producing about 663 ml of biodiesel. The quality of biodiesel meets the major specification of American Society for Testing and Materials（ASTM） standards for biodiesel. The crude glycerin and seed cake obtained as byproduct during biodiesel production were also measured which can be purified and used in composting, animal feeds, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic industries.

primary adenocarcinoma of the appendix is a rare malignancythat constitutes plasms. Moreover, primary signet ring cell carcinomaof the appendix is an exceedingly rare entity. In the present report, we describe a rare case of primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the appendix with ovarian metastasesand unresectable peritoneal dissemination occurring in a 45-year-old female patient. She was clinically misdiagnosed as torsion of ovarian cyst. She underwent appendicectomy and unilateral *** revealed signet ring cell carcinoma and a right hemicolectomy was done. She then received palliative systemic chemotherapy with 12 cycles of oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil, and leucovorin(FOLFOX-4). The patient is doing well till today on follow up without progression of disease 10 mo after beginning chemotherapy.

Intensive Insulin Therapy Has No Effect on Mortality and Morbidity in Cardiac Surgery patients: A Meta-Analysis

Introduction: Optimal glycemic control in cardiac surgery patients remains a laudable but confusing practice. Existing studies have primarily employed two maintenance strategies using either intensive insulin therapy (IIT) (maintain glucose p = 0.628), ICU LOS (MD = -0.073 days, 95% CI = -0.324 to 0.178;p = 0.568), or hospital LOS (MD = 0.269, 95% CI = -2.158 to 2.696;p = 0.828). No difference in AF rates (RR = 0.887, 95% CI = 0.681 to 1.155;p = 0.375) or deep sternal infection (RR = 0.985, 95% CI = 0.357 to 2.720;p = 0.977) were observed. Conclusion: IIT targeting blood sugar levels of 80 - 120 mg/dl have no effect on perioperative outcomes in cardiac surgery patients. IIT is associated with similar mortality, ICU LOS, hospital LOS, AF rates, and deep sternal infection rates compared to more liberal glycemic strategies. IIT should not replace CIT as the standard of care in cardiac surgery patients.

Lithium/Sodium-ion batteries(LIB/SIB)have attracted enormous attention as a promising electrochemical energy storage system due to their high energy density and long cycle *** of the major hurdles is the initial irreversible capacity loss during the first few cycles owing to forming the solid electrolyte interphase layer(SEI).This process consumes a profusion of lithium/sodium,which reduces the overall energy density and cycle ***,a suitable approach to compensate for the irreversible capacity loss must be developed to improve the energy density and cycle ***-lithiation/sodiation is a widely accepted process to compensate for the irreversible capacity loss during the initial *** strategies such as physical,chemical,and electrochemical pre-lithiation/sodiation have been explored;however,these approaches add an extra step to the current manufacturing *** to these strategies,pre-lithiation/sodiation additives have attracted enormous attention due to their easy adaptability and compatibility with the current battery manufacturing *** this review,we consolidate recent developments and emphasize the importance of using pre-lithiation/sodiation additives(anode and cathode)to overcome the irreversible capacity loss during the initial cycles in lithium/sodium-ion *** review also addresses the technical and scientific challenges of using pre-lithiation/sodiation additives and offers the insights to boost the energy density and cycle life with their possible commercial *** most important prerequisites for designing effective pre-lithiation/sodiation additives have been explored and the future directions have been discussed.

Hexagonal and triangular Au microplates extending over an area of~12,000μm^(2) with thickness in the range 30-1000 nm have been synthesized using a single step thermolysis of(AuCl_(4))^(-)-tetraoctylammonium bromide complex in *** microplates are self-supporting and can be easily manipulated using a sharp pin,a property which enables them to serve as substrates for living *** microplate surface is non-toxic to living cells and can enhance the fluorescence signal from fluorophores residing within the cell by an order of *** addition,the microplates are smooth and single-crystalline,and ideal as microscopy substrates and molecular *** growth of the microplates in the initial stages is interesting in that they seem to grow perpendicular to the substrate,as evidenced by in situ microscopy.

Significance of glacio-morphological factors in glacier retreat：a case study of part of Chenab basin,Himalaya

A study has been carried out in part of Chenab basin,Himalaya to understand the relationship between glacio-morphological factors and change in glacial area. Initially change in areal extent of glaciers was derived for two time frames(1962-2001/02 and 2001/02-2010/11). The study comprised of 324 glaciers for the monitoring period of 1962-2001/02 for,which 11% loss in glacial area was observed. Two hundred and thirty-eight glaciers were further monitored between 2001/02 and 2010/11. These glaciers showed an area loss of 1.1%. The annual deglaciation has been found to be higher during the period of 1962-2001/02 compared to 2001/02-2010/11. The spatial and temporal variability in deglaciation was also addressed usingglacio-morphic parameters. Area,length,percentage of debris cover,and various elevation parameters of glaciers were observed to have significant controls on relationships to the rate of glacial shrinkage. Largerarea and longer glaciers show a lower percentage of retreat than smaller and shorter ones. Moreover,glaciers located at lower altitudes and having gentle slopes show more area retreat. The results of area retreat in debris covered and debris free glaciers supports that the glaciers covered by debris retard ice melting at some extent. 158 glaciers were observed having no debris cover,and these exhibit 14% of loss in surface area. In glaciers having 40% debris cover,8% of deglaciation was observed. The glaciers located below equilibrium line altitude(ELA) have experienced 4.6% of deglaciation for the time frame 2001/02 – 2010/11 whereas it was found to be 1.1% for the glaciers occurring above ELA. However,theorientation of glaciers did not show any considerable influence on glacial change based on hypothesis.
