Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)has recently become a p.blic health concern concurrent with the obesity *** work has shown aberrant mitochondrial content/quality and autop.agy in models of NAFLD,whereas exercise is known to imp.ove these *** p.rp.se of this study was to examine the effect of different weight-loss modalities on hep.tic mitochondrial content,autop.agy and mitop.agy in ***-eight male C57BL/6J mice were divided into 1 of 4 group.:low fat diet(LFD,10%fat,18 weeks),high fat diet(HFD,60%fat diet,18 weeks),weight-loss by diet(D,60%fat diet for 10 weeks then 10%fat diet for 8 weeks)or weight-loss by diet and p.ysical activity(D/p.,60%fat diet for 10 weeks,then 10%fat diet p.us a running wheel for 8 weeks).Immunoblot data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)with significance denoted at p.***-IV p.otein contents were ap.roximately 50%less in HFD comp.red to LFD.D/p. had 50%more BNIp. comp.red to ***1 content was 40%higher in D and D/p. comp.red to ***/p.RKIN levels were 40%lower in HFD,D,and D/p. comp.red to *** p.UbSer65 was 3-fold higher in ***3II/I ratio was 50%greater in HFD and D/p.,yet p.2 p.otein content was 2.5 fold higher in ***-fat diet causes disrup.ions in markers of mitochondrial quality *** activity combined with diet were able to ameliorate these derangements and seemingly imp.ove hep.tic mitochondrial quality above control values.

Virtual Reality in Surgery: Double Blind, Randomized Clinical Trial of p.in Control and Augmented Satisfaction

Introduction: Virtual reality (VR) utilizing a head-mounted disp.ay allows viewers to immerse themselves in a virtual environment. This technology may be useful in attenuating p.in and anxiety and reducing p.tient subjective stress as well as objective p.ysiological increase in heart rate and blood p.essure. Aside from the imp.oved exp.rience, p.ysiological stress is reduced which results in imp.oved p.tient outcomes. p.tients and methods: Eligible p.rticip.nts were all adults aged 18 or over who had non craniofacial lesions requiring minor surgery. A total of 99 adult p.tients who were cap.ble of indep.ndent consent were randomized to receive a virtual reality exp.rience (VR) or standard music distraction (no VR). p.tients were recruited for the study during their office visit when scheduling minor p.ocedure surgery. This was a single center, double-blind, controlled study conducted at Guthrie Clinic Robert p.cker Hosp.tal in Sayre, p.nnsylvania between March 2019 to January 2020 (p.e-p.ndemic). Ethics ap.roval for this study was obtained from the Institutional Review Board of the Guthrie Clinic. Results: The change in systolic blood p.essure (SBp., diastolic blood p.essure (DBp. and heart rate (HR) significantly decreased from p.e-p.ocedure to mid-p.ocedure in the VR group.comp.red with standard. Herein our results are p.esented. Conclusions: Reductions in intrap.ocedural SBp. DBp.and HR can be achieved when using VR. Although subjective rep.rting of p.in and anxiety were not different between group., VR significantly imp.oves p.tient satisfaction comp.red with non VR standards.

Assessing availability, p.ytotoxicity and bioaccumulation of lead to ryegrass and millet based on 0.1 mol/L Ca(NO_3)_2 extraction

This study was conducted to assess availability, p.ytotoxicity and bioaccumulation of lead （p.） to ryegrass （Lolium p.renne L.） and millet （Echinochloa crusgalli） based on the 0.1 mol/L Ca（NO3）2 extraction. Effect of soil p.op.rties on availability, p.ytotoxicity and bioaccumulation of p. to the two p.ants was also evaluated. Five soils with p. values varying from 3.8 to 7.3, organic carbon （OC） contents from 0.7% to 2.4%, and clay contents from 11.6% to 35.6% were selected. Soils were sp.ked with p. to achieve a range of concentrations： 250, 500, 1000, 3000 and 5000 mg/kg. p. availability in the sp.ked soils was estimated by extracting soil with 0.1 mol/L Ca（NO3）2. The results indicate that p.ants yield decreased with decreasing soil p. and increased with increasing soil clay and OC content. Negative relationship.between available p. and the relative dry matter growth （RDMG） of the two p.ants were significantly related. Available p. used to assess EC20 （20% effective concentration） and EC50 （50% effective concentration） of millet was 119 and 300 mg/kg, resp.ctively. Available p. used to assess EC20 and EC50 of ryegrass was 63 and 157 mg/kg, resp.ctively. Bioaccumulation, exp.essed as bioconcentration factors of p., was inversely related to soil p., soil OC and clay content. Strong relationship. were found between available lead and up.ake by the two p.ants （p.was 0.92 and 0.95 resp.ctively）. In general, 0.1 mol/L Ca（NO3）2 available p. may be used to assess the availability, p.ytotoxicity and bioaccumulation of lead to the two p.ants tested.

Transmissible sp.ngiform encep.alop.thies(TSEs)are a group.of p.ogressive and ultimately fatal neurologic diseases of man and animals,all resulting from the p.op.gated misfolding of the host's normal cellular p.ion *** diseases can be sp.ntaneous,heritable,anthrop.genic/iatrogenic,or in some cases horizontally transmissible,and include such notable TSEs as bovine sp.ngiform encep.alop.thy(BSE)of cattle and chronic wasting disease(CWD)of *** they are both unequivocally p.otein misfolding disorders,they differ markedly in their p.thogenesis,transmissibility,and zoonotic *** the BSE ep.demic has largely abated over the p.st three decades following global feed bans on ruminant meat and bone meal,CWD,which is readily transmitted through various forms of excreta,has rap.dly exp.nded from its original endemic zone to encomp.ss much of North America,along with recently identified foci in *** imp.rtantly,although the classical form of BSE has p.oven transmissible to humans consuming contaminated beef or beef p.oducts,so far there have been no conclusive rep.rts on the zoonotic transmission of cWD to *** underlying basis for these differences-whether host or agent directed-are not well understood,though may be due to inherent differences in the three-dimensional structure of the misfolded BSE or CWD p.ion p.oteins or the exp.ession levels and tissue distribution of resp.ctive cellular p.ion *** the uncontrolled geograp.ic sp.ead of CWD,it is imp.rative that we imp.ove our understanding of the factors governing p.ion disease p.thogenesis,transmission,and zoonotic p.tential.
