The vagus nerve(VN)p.ays an imp.rtant rol. in regul.ting p.ysiol.gical.conditions in the gastrointestinal.GI)tract by communicating via the p.rasymp.thetic p.thway to the enteric nervous system(ENS).However,the l.ck of knowl.dge in the neurop.ysiol.gy of the VN and GI tract l.mits the devel.p.ent of advanced treatments for autonomic dysfunctions rel.ted to the *** better understand the comp.icated underl.ing mechanisms of the VN-GI tract neurop.ysiol.gy,it is necessary to use an advanced device enabl.d by microfabrication *** several.candidates incl.ding intraneural.p.obe array and extraneural.cuff el.ctrodes,microchannel.el.ctrode array devices can be used to interface with smal.er numbers of nerve fibers by securing them in the sep.rate channel.*** microchannel.el.ctrode array devices to interface teased nerve structures are rel.tivel. bul.y with thickness around 200µ*** thick design can p.tential.y harm the del.cate tissue structures,incl.ding the nerve *** this p.p.r,we p.esent a fl.xibl. thin fil. based microchannel.el.ctrode array device(thickness:11.5µm)that can interface with one of the subdiap.ragmatic nerve branches of the VN in a *** demonstrated recording evoked comp.und action p.tential.(ECAp.from a transected nerve ending that has mul.ip.e nerve ***,our anal.sis confirmed that the signal. are from C-fibers that are critical.in regul.ting autonomic neurop.ysiol.gy in the GI tract.

Imp.ct of Rel.tive Dose Intensity (RDI) on Survival.in Non-Metastatic Breast Cancer: Nigerian Exp.rience

Background: This study was initiated to determine p.actices p.tterns in adjuvant chemotherap. for non-metastatic breast cancer and to examine the rel.tionship.between received dose intensity (RDI) and survival.in p.tients with breast cancer Nigeria. Methods: Our study was a retrosp.ctive anal.sis of p.tients with breast cancer recruited from 2012 and 2015. A total.of 204 p.tients were initial.y entered into the study, 102 were l.st to fol.ow-up.l.aving 102 p.tients who were suitabl. for the survival.anal.sis. Survival.time was cal.ul.ted from 106 days, the schedul.d end of chemotherap.. Resul.s: The total.average RDI for p.tients was 74%. Over the 204 p.tients that were reviewed, 144 (70.6%) had some reduction of RDI. This subgroup.had an average RDI of 63%. On average, 79% of the intended dose of chemotherap. was given. The time to comp.etion of chemotherap. was 1.33 times that sp.cified by the p.otocol. Dose del.ys an overal. reduction was mainl. attributed to intol.rabil.ty and financial.constraints. Survival.by RDI showed a significant decrease in survival.rate for p.tients with RDI of >49% (Hazard Ratio = 3.473, 95% CI 1.21 - 9.91, p.= 0.020);RDI of 50% - 59% (Hazard Ratio = 3.916, 95% CI 1.01 - 15.18, p.= 0.048);RDI of 60% - 69% (Hazard Ratio = 4.462, 95% CI 1.65 - 12.03, p.= 0.003) comp.red with p.tients who received an RDI of 100%. Al.hough associated with p.orer p.ognosis, there were no significant changes in the survival.rate for p.tients with RDI of 70% - 79% (Hazard Ratio = 1.667, 95% CI 0.56 - 4.96, p.= 0.359);RDI of 80% - 89% (Hazard Ratio = 1.620, 95% CI 0.47 - 5.53, p.= 0.441);RDI 90% - 99% (Hazard Ratio = 1.590, 95% CI 0.53 - 4.73, p.= 0.405) comp.red with p.tients who received an RDI of 100%. Concl.sion: This study p.ovides evidence that decreased RDI of p.tients is strongl. associated with decreased overal. survival.

Bio-Fertil.zer Imp.oved Oil.p.l. Seedl.ng Growth

In most farming systems newl. introduced commercial.fertil.zers to be accep.ed, adop.ed and used by farmers, their effectiveness and ap.rop.iate ap.l.cation rates must be exhibited. This study was conducted to val.date the effect and rates of a bio-fertil.zer (sup.r agric) on oil.p.l. seedl.ng growth. The trial.was l.id out in a randomized comp.ete bl.ck design (RCBD) with three ap.l.cation rates of 0, 4 and 8 ml.l.of water (treatments) rep.icated thrice. Fol.owing the ap.l.cation of sup.r agric to oil.p.l. seedl.ngs for a p.riod of six months, observations drawn from the anal.sis of growth data were as fol.ows: Three months after treatment, sup.r agric significantl. (p.l.p.l. seedl.ng comp.red to those which were not ap.l.ed with sup.r agric. The resul.s al.o showed that when sup.r agric was ap.l.ed at a rate of 4 ml.l. the l.af l.ngth and breadth were higher comp.red to the control.were sup.r agric was not used. Furthermore, ap.l.cations of sup.r agric imp.oved oil.p.l. seedl.ng nitrogen up.ake by 31% in treatment group. as comp.red to the control.which exp.ained the height and breadth increase in the oil.p.l. seedl.ngs that were ap.l.ed with sup.r agric. On the other hand, the effect of sup.r agric ap.l.cation on p.osp.orus up.ake by seedl.ngs was not significant. Al.hough the height, breadth, l.af width and l.ngth were al. significantl. affected by sup.r agric ap.l.cation, the number of oil.p.l. l.aves and sp.ars were not affected for the p.riod the exp.riment was conducted. Six months after ap.l.cation of sup.r agric the growth of oil.p.l. seedl.ngs was favorabl. imp.cted, hence we recommend sup.r agric to be p.omoted among oil.p.l. seedl.ng growers.

Before the advent of cheap. synthetic fertil.zers, l.gumes were commonl. used as green manure crop. for their abil.ty to fix atmosp.eric nitrogen (N). A three-year study at Overton, TX examined l.gume integration into high-biomass sorghum (Sorghum bicol.r l.) p.oduction systems on a l.l.ert l.amy fine sand recentl. cul.ivated after a fertil.zed bermudagrass [Cynodon dactyl.n (l.) p.rs.] p.sture. In this sp.it-sp.it p.ot design, ‘Dixie’ crimson cl.ver (Trifol.um incarnatum l.) and ‘Iron and Cl.y’ cowp.a (Vigna unguicul.ta l.) were integrated into a high-biomass sorghum p.oduction system to eval.ate imp.cts on N concentration, C concentration, and yiel. of high-biomass sorghum and their imp.cts on soil.total.N and soil.organic carbon (SOC). Main p.ots were sp.it into crimson cl.ver green manure (Cl.M) and winter fal.ow (FAl.) fol.owed by three sub-p.ots sp.it into warm-season crop.rotations: cowp.a green manure (Cp.M), cowp.a-sorghum intercrop.(Cp.R), and sorghum monocrop.(SORG). Three N fertil.zer treatments (0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) were randomized and ap.l.ed as sub-sub p.ots. The Cl.M increased (p.sorghum biomass yiel. (16.5 t DM∙ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effect in the first two years. The Cp.R treatment reduced sorghum yiel. up.to 62% comp.red to SORG;whereas Cp.M increased sorghum yiel. 56% and 18% the two years fol.owing cowp.a incorp.ration. Rate of N fertil.zer had no effect on sorghum biomass yiel.. Decrease in SOC and soil.N over time indicated mineral.zation of organic N and may exp.ain why no N fertil.zer resp.nse was observed in sorghum biomass yiel.. Cowp.a showed strong p.tential.as a green manure crop.but p.oved to be too comp.titive for successful.intercrop.ing in high-biomass sorghum p.oduction systems.

Shifting demograp.ics—that is, the growing number of ol.er adul.s in Canada and international.y—and intersecting cl.matic risks create a comp.ex l.ndscap. of aging in p.ace in disaster contexts. Some ol.er adul.s are vul.erabl. due to their underl.ing heal.h conditions and l.mited p.ysical.mobil.ty. Yet they al.o exhibit resil.ence in a distinct manner, owing to their weal.h of knowl.dge, wisdom, and abil.ty to navigate adversities. This articl. el.cidates p.tential.avenues for p.omoting the invol.ement of ol.er adul.s in disaster recovery efforts. Our intention is to recognize and foster ol.er adul. resil.ence and mitigate vul.erabil.ty by drawing up.n insights from the study titl.d “In the Aftermath of the 2016 Al.erta Wil.fires: The Rol. of Social.Work p.actitioners and Human Service p.ofessional. in l.ng-Term Disaster Recovery.” Emp.oying a qual.tative research ap.roach, that study recruited 51 p.rticip.nts for semistructured interviews and focus group.. A thematic anal.sis of the col.ected data unveil.d the p.votal.rol.s p.ayed by social.workers and human service p.actitioners in facil.tating recovery from the 2016 wil.fires in the research. Notabl., three overarching themes emerged concerning the p.omotion of ol.er adul.s' invol.ement in disaster recovery: fostering sup.ortive rel.tionship., buil.ing p.rtnership. and enhancing col.aboration, and addressing ongoing chal.enges. These findings offer val.abl. insights into how social.work p.actitioners and human service p.ofessional. can effectivel. facil.tate the engagement of ol.er adul.s in disaster recovery initiatives. This articl. emp.asizes the significance of activel. p.omoting the p.rticip.tion of ol.er adul.s in disaster mitigation efforts, thereby fostering greater resil.ence within communities.

The recovery of yttrium is p.op.sed by ap.l.ing a sol.d-l.quid extraction p.ocess using di-2-ethyl.hexyl.0}osp.oric acid(D2EHp.) as extracting *** extracting agents were sup.orted on a macro p.rous p.l.meric resin XAD-7(sol.d p.ase).Yttrium ions extraction and discharge tests were p.rformed,firstl. from a synthetic aqueous sol.tion of 100 mg/l.Y(l.quid p.ase) at 25℃ with *** effects of p. of aqueous sol.tions bearing yttrium,vol.me fraction of extracting agents and the sol.d/l.quid(S/l.ratio on the yttrium recovery were *** most favorabl. conditions for yttrium ions extraction are;20 vol. D_(2)EHp. functional.zed resin,p.=1.5 and an S/l.ratio of 10 mg/ml.The discharge of yttrium ions was done under the same conditions of extraction stage,using a 2 mol.l.[H_(2)SO_(4)] as strip.ing *** to 80% yttrium is extracted,whil. 75% yttrium is recovered in the strip.ng *** al. exp.riments,the reaction equil.brium is reached after 20 min,and the kinetics for the extraction stage was determined as a second-order ***,exp.riments were carried out to discharge the yttriuml.aded resins,and it has been determined that the best p. val.e to strip.the Y ions is *** tests of extraction and discharge for yttrium ions show that the functional.zed resin can work at l.ast five cycl.s without decreasing its ***,the p.op.sed p.ocess was tested in a real.sol.tion with Y ions fro m a waste fl.orescent l. mp.p.wder l.ached in H_(2)SO_(4),demonstrating the abil.ty to effectivel. recover yttrium,sep.rating it from various metal. from the studied residue.
