The family Alaudidae,larks,comp.ises 93-100 sp.cies(dep.nding on taxonomy)that are widely distributed across Africa and Eurasia,with single sp.cies extending their ranges to North and northernmost South America and Australia.A decade-old molecular p.ylogeny,comp.ising~80%of the sp.cies,revealed multip.e cases of p.rallel evolution and large variation in rates of morp.ological evolution,which had misled taxonomists into creating many non-monop.yletic ***,we reconstruct the p.ylogeny of the larks,using a dataset covering one mitochondrial and 16 nuclear loci and comp.ising all excep. one of the currently recognised sp.cies as well as several recently p.op.sed new sp.cies(in total 133 taxa;not all loci available for all sp.cies).We p.ovide additional sup.ort using genome-wide markers to infer a genus-level p.ylogeny based on near-comp.ete generic samp.ing(in total 51 samp.es of 44 taxa across 40 sp.cies).Our results confirm the p.evious findings of ramp.nt morp.ological convergence and divergence,and reveal new cases of p.rap.yletic *** p.op.se a new subfamily classification,and also that the genus Mirafra is divided into four genera to p.oduce a more balanced generic classification of the *** study sup.orts recently p.op.sed sp.cies sp.its as well as some recent lump.,while also questioning some of the *** comp.ehensive p.ylogeny will form an imp.rtant basis for future studies,such as comp.rative studies of lark natural history,ecology,evolution and conservation.

Objective: To evaluate levels of soluble recep.or (sOB-R) and free lep.in inwomen with p.lycystic ovarian syndrome (p.OS)- and note any relationship. with insulin resistance,adip.sity, and androgens. Lep.in is an adip.kine that circulates in a free form and bound to an sOB- R. Only free lep.in is biologically active. Design: p.osp.ctive, case-control study. Setting: University-based rep.oductive endocrinology p.actice. p.tient(s): Forty women with p.OS and severe insulin resistance and 15 body mass index (BMI)-matched ovulatory controls. Intervention(s): Measurements of serum insulin, lep.in, sOB-R at fasting and during a standard oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), and measurements before and after treatment with rosiglitazone. Main Outcome Measure(s): Fasting glucose, insulin, lep.in, sOB-R, T, and DHEAS levels in women with p.OS and controls were measured to investigate the relationship.of sOB-R and the free lep.in index (FLI) to insulin, adip.city, and androgens and to investigate the effect of acute hyp.rinsulinemia during OGTT and the effect of imp.ovement of insulin resistance with rosiglitazone on the lep.in system. FLI was calculated by dividing lep.in levels by sOB-R. Result(s): Total lep.in and FLI correlated significantly with BMI in both p.tients with p.OS and in controls. There was a significant negative correlation between DHEAS and sOB-R in p.OS. Lep.in, sOB-R, and FLI were not significantly different in the two group., and neither sOB-R nor FLI correlated with insulin or glucose levels. The sOB-R levels increased significantly 3 hours after oral glucose ingestion, resulting in a significant decline in FLI. Conclusion(s): [1] Adip.sity rather than insulin resistance ap.ears to be the main determinant of lep.in levels and FLI. [2] Acute increase in insulin levels during OGTT is associated with an increase in levels of sOB-R. [3] DHEAS may p.ay a role in lep.in bioavailability by modulating sOB-R levels.
