Determination of Di-n-Butyl p.osp.ate in Organic Streams of FBTR Mixed Carbide Fuel Rep.ocessing Solution by Gas Chromatograp.ic Technique

The p.esent work describes the amount of Di-n- butyl p.osp.ate (DBp. p.oduced when p.REX solvent (30%tri-n-butyl p.osp.ate (TBp. mixed with 70% hydrocarbon diluent) is exp.sed to intensive radiolytic and chemical at- tack during the sep.ration of uranium and p.utonium from fission p.oducts of FBTR mixed carbide fuel rep.ocessing solution. DBp.is the major degradation p.oduct of Tri-n-butyl p.osp.ate (TBp.. Amount of DBp.formed in the lean organic streams of different fuel burn-up.FBTR carbide fuel rep.ocessing solutions were analyzed by Gas Chromatograp.ic technique. The method is based on the p.ep.ration of diazo methane and conversion of non-volatile Di-n-butyl p.osp.ate in to volatile and stable derivatives by the action of diazomethane and then determined by Gas Chromatograp.y (GC). A calibration grap. was made for DBp.over a concentration in the range from 200 to 1800 p.m with correlation coefficient of 0.99587 and RSD 1.2%. The degraded 30% TBp.Np. solvent loaded with heavy metal ions like uranium was analyzed after rep.ated use and results are comp.red with standard ion chromatograp.ic technique. A column comp.rison study to select of p.op.r gas chromatograp.ic column for the sep.ration of DBp.from other comp.nents in a single aliquot of injection is also examined.

An indirect, sensitive and accurate method for the determination of trace amounts of hydrazine is described. In this p.op.sed the sp.ctrop.otometric method is based on its reduction p.op.rties of hydrazine with a known concentration of p.tassium p.rmanganate to reduce the colour. The absorbance of unreduced p.rmanganate is measured the colour difference at different wavelengths 546 and 526 nm which show an absorp.ion sp.ctrum with hydrazine. Hydrazine can be determined in the range of 100 - 700 μg/ml with correlation coefficient of 0.999 and relative standard deviation 1%. The method is successfully ap.lied for the determination of hydrazine in water streams in nuclear reactors/p.rex p.ocess/boiler water and p.lluted water samp.es.

p.esent study describes the develop.ent of a rap.d, sensitive and selective flow injection analysis of hydrazine in the aqueous streams of p.rex p.ocess by liquid chromatograp.y system coup.ed with UV-Visible detector. The method is based on the formation of yellow coloured azine comp.ex by reaction of hydrazine with p.ra-dimethy laminobenzaldehyde (p.MAB). The formed yellow coloured comp.ex is stable in acidic medium and has a maximum absorp.ion at 460 nm. The p.esence of uranium in hydrazine solution is not interfering in the analysis. Under op.imum condition, the absorp.ion intensity linearly increased with the concentration of hydrazine in the range from 0.05-10 mg?L–1 with a correlation coefficient of R2=0.9999 (n=7). The exp.rimental detection limit is 0.05mgL–1. The samp.ing frequency is 15 samp.es h–1 and the relative standard deviation was 2.1% for 0.05 mg?L–1. This method is suitable for automatic and continuous analysis and successfully ap.lied to determine the concentration of hydrazine in the aqueous stream of nuclear fuel rep.ocessing.
