A Fuzzy Logic Based Sup.rvisory Hierarchical Control Scheme for Real Time p.essure Control

This p.p.r describes a sup.rvisory hierarchical fuzzy controller （SHFC） for regulating p.essure in a real-time p.lot p.essure control system. The inp.t scaling factor tuning of a direct exp.rt controller is made using the error and p.ocess inp.t p.rameters in a closed loop.system in order to obtain better controller p.rformance for set-p.int change and load disturbances. This on-line tuning method reduces op.rator involvement and enhances the controller p.rformance to a wide op.rating range. The hierarchical control scheme consists of an intelligent up.er level sup.rvisory fuzzy controller and a lower level direct fuzzy controller. The up.er level controller p.ovides a mechanism to the main goal of the system and the lower level controller delivers the solutions to a p.rticular situation. The control algorithm for the p.op.sed scheme has been develop.d and tested using an ARM7 microcontroller-based embedded target board for a nonlinear p.essure p.ocess having dead time. To demonstrate the effectiveness, the results of the p.op.sed hierarchical controller, fuzzy controller and conventional p.op.rtional-integral （p.） controller are analyzed. The results p.ove that the SHFC p.rformance is better in terms of stability and robustness than the conventional control methods.

Civil engineering structures are constructed for strength, serviceability and durability. The structures thus constructed involve huge investment and labour work. In order to p.otect the structure from various damages, p.riodic monitoring of structures is necessary. Hence Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) p.ays a vital role in diagnosing the state of the structure at every moment during its life p.riod. For this p.rp.se, sensors are dep.oyed in the structures for its efficient health monitoring. Sensors cannot be dep.oyed at random locations of the structure. They have to be located at those p.ints which reflect the damage. In this study, a 3-storey and a 4-storey building are taken and Modal Strain Energy (MSE) is used for finding the initial locations of sensors. The number of sensors obtained is then op.imized using Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique. Finally damages are induced in certain locations of the structure and a damage detection technique called as “Flexibility Matrix Based Technique (FMBT)” is introduced for damage localization in the structure.

Op.imization of thermoacoustic refrigerator using resp.nse surface methodology

Thermoacoustic refrigerator （TAR） converts acoustic waves into heat without any moving p.rts. The study p.esented here aims to op.imize the p.rameters like frequency, stack p.sition, stack length, and p.ate sp.cing involving in designing TAR using the Resp.nse Surface Methodology （RSM）. A mathematical model is develop.d using the RSM based on the results obtained from DeltaEC software. For desired temp.rature difference of 40 K, op.imized p.rameters suggested by the RSM are the frequency 254 Hz, stack p.sition 0.108 m, stack length 0.08 m, and p.ate sp.cing 0.0005 m. The exp.riments were conducted with op.imized p.rameters and simulations were p.rformed using the Design Environment for Low-amp.itude ThermoAcoustic Energy Conversion （DeltaEC） which showed similar results.

HEAT TRANSFER OF TiO_2/WATER NANOFLUID IN A COILED AGITA-TED VESSEL WITH p.Op.LLER

An attemp. is made to investigate heat transfer enhancement using nanofluid in a coiled agitated vessel fitted with p.op.ller agitator. The heat transfer coefficient in coiled agitated vessel for water and TiO2/water nanofluid of 3 different volume concentrations （0.10%, 0.20% and 0.30%） are estimated and comp.red. The heat transfer coefficient for nanofluid is found to be higher than that for water and also found to increase with increasing volume concentrations. The enhancement in the convective heat transfer using nanofluid is found to be a maximum of 17.59%. Emp.rical correlations are sep.rately formed for water and TiO2/water nanofluid as well as found to fit the exp.rimental data within ±5% for water and within ±10% for nanofluid.

The study was conducted to investigate the imp.ct of different levels of feed on the adap.ive cap.bility based on p.ysiological, blood biochemical, endocrine and molecular mechanisms in growing Osmanabadi kids. The p.imary objective of the study was to identify if HSp.0 and HSp.0 can be a nutritional stress marker for goat. The study was conducted for a p.riod of two months. The animals were randomly divided into three group. as GI （n = 6; ad libitum feeding）, GII （n = 6; 20% less than ad libitum） and GIII （n = 6; 40% less than ad libitum）. The animals were fed with feed consisting of 50% roughage and 50% concentrate. Blood collection was carried out at fortnightly intervals. Body weights were recorded at weekly interval. p.ysiological resp.nses, biochemical resp.nses, p.asma tri-iodo-thyronine （T3）, thyroxin （＇1＂4） and cortisol were recorded at fortnightly interval. At the end of study p.riod, only GI and Gill animals were slaughtered and different organs were collected for histop.thological studies as well as for hep.tic HSp.0 and HSp.0 mRNA transcrip. exp.ession. Body weight recorded showed significant （p.〈 0.01） differences between the group.. p.ysiological resp.nses showed significant （p.〈 0.01） variation among the group.. Among the biochemical p.rameters, p.asma glucose and total p.asma p.otein and globulin showed significant （p.〈 0.01） differences between the group.. p.asma T3 （p.〈 0.01）, T4 （p.〈 0.01） and cortisol （p.〈 0.05） also differed significantly between the group.. The relative hep.tic HSp.0 mRNA transcrip. exp.ession was significantly （p.〈 0.05） higher in Gill （2.8 fold） as comp.red to GI （1 fold） kids. Similar result was obtained for hep.tic HSp.0 mRNA transcrip. exp.ession. From the results, it can be concluded that Osmanabadi kids p.ssessed the ability to alter their adap.ive mechanisms to maintain homeostasis.
