A Review on Taxonomy of p.ylum Kinorhyncha

Kinorhyncha is exclusively marine, holobenthic, free-living, meiofaunal sp.cies found in all marine habitats in the world. However, information on geograp.ical distribution and taxonomical distributional status of Kinorhyncha are needed further understanding. This research article p.esents a comp.led, up.to-date checklist of the p.ylum Kinorhyncha based on bibliograp.ical survey and revision of taxon names. p.esent checklist of this p.ylum comp.ises 271 sp.cies belonging to 30 genera and 13 families. The families are distributed under three orders, Echinorhagata Sorensen et al. 2015, Kentrorhagata Sorensen et al. 2015, Xenosomata Zelinka, 1907. Among the 271 valid sp.cies, in the last five years 82 new sp.cies emerged, two new orders and three families were described. It also includes nine new genera. This checklist could serve as a valuable tool to encourage comp.rison of inter and intraregional research on Kinorhyncha as well as it can be used as baseline data for future taxonomical revision.

Structure and regeneration status of mangrove p.tches along the estuarine and coastal stretches of Kerala, India

This study p.esents the structural characteristics and regeneration p.tential of mangrove p.tches in the estuarine and coastal areas of Kerala, a trop.cal maritime state in India. Field surveys were carried out at 46 selected sites during August 2015 to May 2016. In each site, the vegetative structure and regeneration status were assessed using the quadrat method. Altogether 219 quadrates were laid out and a total of 13 true mangrove sp.cies, belonging to 5 families and 8 genera, were recorded. The total tree density and stand basal area of the study region was1678.08/ha and 20.33 m^2/ha resp.ctively. The low basal areas indicate the reduced structural develop.ent in mangroves. Of the 13 tree sp.cies, Avicennia constitutes 56%of the total Imp.rtant Value Index(IVI) and Avicennia officinalis rep.esents 41% of the IVI in Kerala, followed by Avicennia marina(15%), Rhizop.ora mucronata(15%),Sonneratia alba(8%) Rhizop.ora ap.culata(7%) and Excoecaria agallocha(7%). The diameter at breast height(DBH) in the study area revealed that 47% of the tree sp.cies came under the 1–10 cm DBH class. Total sap.ing and seedling density in Kerala was 2238.35 and 3232.42 individuals/ha resp.ctively. Density of young p.ants(seedlings ? sap.ings) was only 31% greater of tree density and varied from 3–63%, which indicates p.or regeneration p.tential. The Maturity index value(MIV) and comp.exity index(Ic) value of mangroves were 18.30 and 109.81 resp.ctively. However, the low Ic value(\ 10) observed in seven out of ten coastal districts indicated p.or structural develop.ent of mangroves in Kerala. Therefore, locationsp.cific conservation and management measures, guided by the knowledge on sp.tial distribution and habitat requirements of mangrove varieties should be taken to p.eserve the mangrove diversity of Kerala.

Risk of clinically significant p.ostate adenocarcinoma （CAp. varies worldwide,although there is a uniform p.evalence of latent disease. A hormone-resp.nsive tissue,the p.ostate p.ssesses the metabolizing cap.city to biotransform a variety of environmental p.ocarcinogens or endogenous hormones. Whether such metabolizing cap.city or estrogen recep.or （ER） status underlies these demograp.ic differences in suscep.ibility to Cap.remains unclear. With ap.rop.iate ethical p.rmission,verified-benign tissues were obtained following transurethral resection of the p.ostate from a high-risk region （n = 12 UK-resident Caucasians） and a typ.cally low-risk region （n = 14 India-resident Asians）. Quantitative gene exp.ession analysis was emp.oyed for cytochrome p.50 （CYp.1B1,N-acetyltransferase （NAT）1,NAT2,catechol-O-methyl transferase （ COMT）,sulfotransferase （ SULT） 1A1,ERα,ERβ and aromatase （CYp.To quantify the p.esence or absence of CYp.B1,ERα or ERβ,and to identify ther in situ localization,immunohistochemistry was carried out. The two cohorts had reasonably well-matched serum levels of p.ostate-sp.cific antigen or hormones. Exp.ession levels for the candidate genes investigated were ***,clear differences in p.otein levels for CYp.B1 and ERβ were noted. Staining for CYp.B1 tended to be nuclear-associated in the basal glandular ep.thelial cells,and in UK-resident Caucasian tissues was p.esent at a higher （p.= 0.006） level comp.red with that from India-resident Asians. In contrast,a higher level of p.sitive ERβ staining was noted in p.ostates from India-resident Asians. These study findings p.int to differences in metabolizing cap.city and ER status in benign p.ostate tissues that might modulate suscep.ibility to the emergence of clinically significant Cap.in demograp.ically distinct p.p.lations.
