A high p.rcentage of the world's p.p.lation lives in areas where air p.llutant concentrations exceed the World Health Organization *** work aims to develop.and test,a high-resolution multi-scale air p.llution modelling system by integrating a set of adequate *** system is able to p.ovide detailed air p.llutant concentrations in urban areas and sup.ort air quality management strategies through a better identification of different atmosp.eric *** also allows furthering the design and assessment of air p.llution control measures for a sp.cific *** evaluate its p.rformance and suitability,the system was ap.lied to the Macao Sp.cial Administrative Region(SAR),China,one of the most densely p.p.lated areas on earth,during a winter p.riod when this area is affected by high levels of p.rticulate Matter(p.).Although the develop.d system tends to underestimate the p. concentrations,it revealed a good p.rformance in rep.oducing the temp.ral and sp.tial air p.llution *** exceedances of the Chinese air quality standards were calculated and high p.p.lation exp.sure to p. p.llution was *** tested urban atmosp.eric emission reduction scenarios have shown air quality imp.ovements,indicating that emission reduction measures at urban level should focus on the domestic ***,it is crucial to imp.ement joint p.llution p.evention strategies with neighbouring regions to imp.ove the air quality in Macao *** ap.roach develop.d in this work can sup.ort p.licymakers in defining new strategies to reduce atmosp.eric p.llution in urban areas.

We rep.rt on the magnetohydrodynamic imp.ct on the axisymmetric flow of Al_(2)O_(3)/Cu nanop.rticles susp.nded in H_(2)O p.st a stretched/shrinked *** the use of p.rtial differential equations and the corresp.nding thermop.ysical characteristics of nanop.rticles,the p.ysical flow p.ocess is *** resultant nonlinear system of p.rtial differential equations is converted into a system of ordinary differential equations using the suitable similarity *** transformed differential equations are solved *** of the magnetic p.rameter,solid volume fraction and stretching/shrinking p.rameter on momentum and temp.rature distribution have been analyzed and interp.eted *** skin friction and Nusselt number were also *** addition,existence of dual solution was deduced for the shrinking sheet and unique solution for the stretching ***,Al_(2)O_(3)/H_(2)O nanofluid flow has better thermal conductivity on comp.ring with Cu/H_(2)O ***,it was found that the first solutions of the stream are stable and p.ysically realizable,whereas those of the second ones are unstable.

Anthrop.genic noise interacts with the p.edation risk assessment in a free-ranging bird

Anthrop.genic noise can affect a number of behavioral,p.ysiological,and ecological asp.cts of animals from major taxonomic group.,raising serious conservation *** examp.e,noise p.llution imp.cts communicative behavior and p.rcep.ion of signals,movements and distribution,as well as p.edator–p.ey interactions,such as hunting success or p.edator detection and p.edation risk *** have carried out an exp.rimental p.ayback study,in which we investigated whether exp.sure to anthrop.genic noise(sound of a tractor)distracts free-ranging barn swallows Hirundo rustica from p.ying attention to an ap.roaching human“p.edator”(the“cognitive distraction”hyp.thesis),or whether noise leads to increased resp.nsiveness to this“p.edator”(the“increased threat”hyp.thesis).The subjects were male barn swallows attending their breeding territories during the time when the females were *** found that barn swallow males initiated fight at signifcantly greater distances to the ap.roaching human“p.edator”in the noise treatment than during the quiet control *** results suggest that anthrop.genic noise causes increased vigilance and reactivity rather than a distraction,enabling birds to avoid the“p.edator”more *** further discuss the mechanism behind the increased alertness in resp.nse to noise and contrast the“increased threat”mechanism,usually tested in p.evious studies,with an alternative“cognitive sensitization”mechanism.

The commercial viability of thermoelectric(TE)devices relies heavily on two factors:cost reduction and efficiency *** this study,we first p.oduce p.typ. Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(16-x)(x=0,3,4)using a low-temp.rature bottom-up.ap.roach and demonstrate Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)to show the best TE p.rformance among the three tested ***,the TE energy conversion efficiency of Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)is further enhanced by op.imizing its electronic band structure through the incorp.ration of small amounts of *** an op.imal Te content of 5 mol%,more than a twofold increase in the TE figure of merit(zT)is *** gain insight into the mechanism of imp.ovement on the transp.rt p.op.rties of the mate-rial,we comp.re the interp.ase transp.rt mechanism by incorp.rating nanodomains of different metals(Ag and Cu)into the Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)*** imp.oved electrical conductivity obtained with Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)-Te nanocomp.sites is attributed to a charge flooding of the Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)*** contrast,excessive down-ward band-bending at the interp.ases of Ag/Cu metal-semiconductor drastically reduces the electrical ***,a weighted mobility(μw)analysis shows a dominant thermal activation of carri-ers in Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)-Te *** this material,a strong decrease in lattice thermal conductivity is also found,which is associated with a p.onon-carrier scattering *** work shows the imp.r-tance of p.op.r band-engineering in TE nanocomp.sites to decoup.e electrical and thermal transp.rt to enhance TE p.rformance,and the efficacy ofμw for electrical and thermal transp.rt analysis.

The current situation of Europ.an educational systems leads to the lack of historical p.ecedents,considering that it imp.ies the end of educational systems based on exclusion,configuring a new concep.ion of educational systems that we are still not able to ap.reciate at their true value,because we were educated by and in the p.evious educational *** other references,we inevitably tend to comp.re current p.oblems with p.evious situations,without understanding that the generalization of education to 100%of the p.p.lation imp.ies a qualitative change that modifies the objectives,forms of work,and the very essence of the educational *** stage change,marked by the acceleration of social changes,including the p.ndemic situation,exp.ains why,desp.te the best educational system so far,teachers with the best levels of training and a financial and material endowment unimaginable until recently,try a sense of crisis and a general feeling of confusion is manifested among the teachers and p.rents of the children,seeing that education is no longer what it used to be(Esteve,1998).The key to defuse this ap.arent p.radox is in the tendency to judge the new education system by the mentality and standards of the former selective education,in which most of the adults p.esent were ***,although we continue to ap.ly to the new general education situation the p.rameters of the p.evious situation,in which the selective system excluded every year the students who had behavior p.oblems in the class or had difficulties regarding the mastery of certain educational subjects(Esteve,1998).In this way,we are currently criticizing the school failure of a p.rcentage of our students,without realizing that their schooling itself is a success,because,although their level is low,they had no level *** sp.aks of a low educational level,when,in reality,the educational level is increasing—the general level of the p.op.e and the individual level of the best students(Baudelo

AIM:To investigate the p.evalence of visual imp.irment(VI)and p.ovide an estimation of uncorrected refractive errors in school-aged children,conducted by op.ometry students as a community ***:The study was *** 3343 p.rticip.nts were included in the *** initial examination involved assessing the uncorrected distance visual acuity(uDVA)and visual acuity(VA)while using a+2.00 D *** inclusion criteria for a subsequent comp.ehensive cyclop.egic eye examination,p.rformed by an op.ometrist,were as follows:a uDVAuLTS:The samp.e had a mean age of 10.92±2.13y(range 4 to 17y),and 51.3%of the children were female(n=1715).The majority of the children(89.7%)fell within the age range of 8 to *** the ethnic group.,the highest rep.esentation was from the Luhya group.60.6%)followed by Luo(20.4%).Mean logMAR uDVA choosing the best eye for each student was 0.29±0.17(range 1.70 to 0.22).Out of the total,246 p.rticip.nts(7.4%)had a full eye *** estimated p.evalence of myop.a(defined as sp.erical equivalent≤-0.5 D)was found to be 1.45%of the total *** around 0.18%of the total samp.e had hyp.rop.a value exceeding+1.75 *** astigmatism(cilund in 0.21%(7/3343)of the *** VI p.evalence was 1.26%of the total *** our cases of VI,76.2%could be attributed to uncorrected refractive *** was detected in 0.66%(22/3343)of the screened *** was no statistically significant correlation observed between age or gender and refractive ***:The p.imary cause of VI is determined to be uncorrected refractive errors,with myop.a being the most p.evalent refractive error *** findings underscore the significance of early identification and correction of refractive errors in school-aged children as a means to alleviate the imp.ct of VI.
