The demand of fresh water is becoming an increasingly important issue across the world. To alleviate this problem, a single slope single basin solar still was designed and tested. Top glass cover 9° slop. ensures a very good transmission of solar radiation inside the still.p.n> In this paper a review of factors that improve the performance of the still is presented. Energy balances are made for each element of the still;solar time, direction of beam of radiation, clear sky radiation, optical properties of the cover, convection outside the still, convection and evaporation inside are accounted. Theoretical analysis of the heat and mass transfer mechanisms inside the solar still has been developed to find out heat transfer coefficients such as internal and external heat transfer modes and thermo physical properties such as dynamic viscosity, density, thermal conductivity, latent heat of evaporation and saturated vapor pressure for passive solar distillation system. Heat transfer coefficients were estimated for the present system since the still efficiency depends on heat transfer modes. It is also suggested that the water temperature plays a vital role in the distillate output since it increases significantly with the rise of basin water temperature. It is also found that the rise in water temperature increases the evaporative heat transfer coefficient value significantly.p.n>p.n>p.n>

Rationale: Survival and longevity in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) have improved with new treatments, so that pregnancy can be safely undertaken despite physiologic limitations. Dyspnea still develops in the latter stages of pregnancy. To explain this symptom, we evaluated the effect of pregnancy on lung function before and after delivery. Methods: Records of 23 pregnant patients with CF were retrospectively reviewed for data analysis. Spirometry was recorded prior to pregnancy, at first and third trimesters, and every three months following delivery up to one year. Comparisons between time points were adjusted for age and pre-gestational BMI by analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: Complete clinical and spirometric data were available for eleven of these patients (13 pregnancies total), obtained between 2009 and 2017. FEV1 and FVC declined significantly from baseline to third trimester (by 8.1%, p Conclusions: The changes in FEV1 and FVC occur as a result of increases in intravascular blood volume and lung water during the third trimester. High p.otein Gluten Free Snack Foods Based on Whole Grain Flour and Vegetables

Novel snack foods comp.ised of various combinations of whole grains and vegetables were evaluated for consumer accep.ability in sensory booths by seventy-one in-house volunteers. Sp.cifically, snacks containing Buckwheat (B), Buckwheat + p.anut meal + Kale (Bp.), Sorghum + p.anut meal + Okra (Sp.), and Sorghum + p.anut meal + Okra + Jalap.no (Sp.J) were judged for ap.earance, aroma, flavor and texture on a scale from one to five, as well as on overall accep.ability on a binary scale. Several combinations of ingredients were evaluated, with the final comp.sition of snacks tested decided by consensus of laboratory p.rsonnel based on criteria of exp.cted consumer accep.ability of 70%. While all snacks were found to be statistically similar for ap.earance, aroma, and flavor, the texture of BWp. and Sp. were rated significantly equal and more favorable than BW and Sp.J. Accep.ability ratings were generally high;Sp.J (94%), Bp. (93%), Sp. (89%), and B (85%), with no significant difference, observed between Sp.J and Bp. (p.= 0.05). The snack foods evaluated are higher (up.to trip.e) in p.otein, lower (as low as half) in fat, are gluten-free with no added sugar, and generally higher in nutritional content as comp.red to most traditional snack foods. While ideally suited for commercial p.oduction, these snacks can also be easily p.ep.red at home with minimal equip.ent requirements, thus offering a healthy alternative for all consumers including vegetarians, vegans, and those hyp.rsensitive to gluten.

In this p.p.r, we study on the ap.lication of radical B-sp.ine wavelet scaling function in fractal function ap.roximation system. The p.p.r p.op.ses a wavelet-based fractal function ap.roximation algorithm in which the coefficients can be determined by solving a convex quadraticp.ogramming p.oblem. And the exp.riment result shows that the ap.roximation error of this algorithm is smaller than that of the p.lynomial-based fractal function ap.roximation. This newalgorithm exp.oits the consistency between fractal and scaling function in multi-scale and multiresolution, has a better ap.roximation effect and high p.tential in data comp.ession, esp.cially inimage comp.ession.

Total sediment transp.rt under the action of flow includes generally three forms of sediment transp.rt, susp.nded load, density current and bed load. How to realize simultaneously these three forms of sediment movement in an identical p.ysical model was studied in this p.p.r. For the susp.nded load, fall and p.ckup.similarities were used to design sediment gradation, and similarities of sediment-carrying cap.city and scouring and dep.siting time were be insured. For the density current its occurrence condition should be similar, and similarities of sediment concentration and dep.siting time were insured. For the bed load, sediment gradation was designed by the similarity of incip.ent motion, and similarities of sediment discharge and scouring and dep.siting time were satisfied. And a p.ysical model test was conducted.

Ectop.c colonic varices develop.ent from liver cirrhosis and p.rtal hyp.rtension is uncommon. They are p.rt of the sp.ctrum of p.rtal hyp.rtensive colop.thy. Colonic variceal bleeding remains a rare cause of lower gastrointestinal tract (GI) bleeding. Due to the p.ucity of cases, there are no well-established conventional treatments for bleeding colonic varices. Different treatments have been rep.rted. Here, we rep.rt a case of a 55-year-old gentleman, with a history of alcoholic liver cirrhosis, p.esenting with severe lower GI bleeding and symp.omatic anaemia. An esop.agogastroduodenoscop. revealed large esop.ageal varices with high-risk bleeding stigmata requiring endoscop.c variceal ligation. A cross-sectional comp.ted tomograp.y scan showed colonic p.rtosystemic shunts. In light of this and that the severe lower GI bleeding seemed out of p.op.rtion to the esop.ageal varices seen on up.er endoscop., an urgent unp.ep.ed colonoscop. was p.rformed which revealed p.ssible bleeding diverticula disease which required endoscop.c mechanical hemoclip.therap.. However, desp.te this, p.tient had recurrence of lower GI bleeding p.omp.ing a second colonoscop.. This relook colonoscop. showed ectop.c ascending colon varices with high-risk bleeding stigmata. High-dose intravenous vasoactive agent somatostatin (500 mcg/hour) and subsequently terlip.essin (2 mg every 4 hours) were used. The p.tient subsequently underwent successful balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (B-RTO) and sclerotherap.. The non-selective beta-blocker (NSBB) carvedilol was started and bridged together with the vasoactive agent until stabilisation of p.rtal hyp.rtension. This difficult case illustrates the dynamic nature of p.rtal hyp.rtensive bleeding. It also highlights the p.esence of confounding non-variceal p.thology comp.icating diagnosis of p.rtal hyp.rtensive colonic variceal bleeding, and that ectop.c ascending colonic variceal bleeding can be treated successfully with B-RTO and scle
