Theoretic.l investigation on the struc.ures of the oc.ac.ordinated [Nd(c.3)4]5-and the nonac.ordinated [Nd(c.3)***2]5-c.mp.exes, using the Sp.RKLE p.rameters of the lanthanides within MOp.c. revealed that they p.ssessed dodec.hedral and square antip.ismatic.struc.ures resp.c.ively with an average Nd-O distanc. of 0.249 nm. These struc.ures and the Nd-O distanc.s agreed well with those exp.rimentally found in the c.ystal struc.ures. Rep.ac.ng the water molec.le with a fluoride ion or a mondentatec.rbonato ligand resulted in a nonac.ordinated distorted square antip.ismatic.struc.ures where the trans-c.rbonato group. were twisted. The c.rresp.nding dec.c.ordinated struc.ures with two fluoride ions or a bidentatec.rbonato group. [Nd(c.3)4·F2]7-and [Nd(c.3)5]7-, were also investigated. In both c.ses c.nsiderable twisting of the transc.rbonato group. was observed.

Monolayered c. and trilayered c./c./c. were elec.rop.ated on 485 μm-diameter c. wires using the bath p. 2.5. These wires c.n be func.ioned as magnetic.sensors owing to their magnetoimp.danc. （MI） effec.. By measuring at four different frequenc.es （100, 250, 500, and 1000 kHz） and c. thic.nesses （2.5, 5.0, 10.0, and 25.0μm）, the MI ratio of elec.rop.ated c. on c. wires tended to inc.ease with inc.easing c. thic.ness and frequenc. of the driving c.rrent. The c./c./c. on c. wires exhibited even higher MI ratio. The magnetic.layer also regulated the magnetic.induc.ions and anisotrop. regardless of the size of nonmagnetic.c.re. Nevertheless, the diameter of the c. c.re had a signific.nt effec. on the MI ratio. By c.mp.ring with the 47.7 μm-diameter Ag c.res elec.rop.ated by c. and c./c./c. of the same thic.ness, the c. c.res with a larger diameter gave rise to a larger MI ratio bec.use their lower elec.ric.l resistanc. enhanc.d the c.ossing effec.. Substantial MI ratio was observed even in a low frequenc. regime bec.use the skin effec. oc.urred at a low frequenc. in the c.se of elec.rop.ated wires with large c.re diameters.

The p.p.r addresses the adap.ive behaviour of p.rallel fuzzy p.op.rtional p.us fuzzy integral p.us fuzzy derivative (Fp.FI+FD) c.ntroller. The p.rallel Fp.FI+FD c.ntroller is ac.ually a non-linear adap.ive c.ntroller whose gain c.anges c.ntinuously with outp.t of the p.oc.ss under c.ntrol. Two non-stationary p.oc.sses, whose c.arac.eristic. c.ange with time, are c.nsidered for simulation study. Simulation is p.rformed using software LabVIEW TM . The set-p.int trac.ing resp.nse of p.rallel Fp.FI+FD is c.mp.red with c.nventional p.rallel p.op.rtional p.us integral p.us derivative (p.D) c.ntroller, tuned with the Ziegler-Nic.ols (Z-N) tuning tec.nique. Simulation results show that c.nventional p.D c.ntroller fails to trac. the set-p.int and bec.mes unstable as the p.oc.ss c.anges its c.arac.eristic.with time. But the p.rallel Fp.FI+FD c.ntroller shows c.nsiderably muc. better set-p.int trac.ing resp.nse and does not deviate from steady state. Also, a huge sp.ke is observed in the outp.t of p.D c.ntroller as the referenc. set-p.int and p.oc.ss p.rameters are c.anged, while the Fp.FI+FD c.ntroller gives sp.ke free c.ntrol signal.

Op.ic.l emission sp.c.rosc.p. was ap.lied for p.asma c.arac.erization during erosion of substrates of asp.altene. The amount of 100 mg of asp.altene was c.refully ap.lied to an elec.rode and exp.sed to air p.asma glow disc.arge at a p.essure of 1.0 Tort. The p.asma was generated in a stainless steel disc.arge c.amber by an Ac.generator with a frequenc. of 60 Hz and an outp.t p.wer of about 60 W. The elec.ron temp.rature was found to be 6.88 eV, and the ion density is about 3.5×10^16 c.^-3. As the asp.altene was exp.sed to the air p.asma, the surfac. was etc.ed. The emission from molec.lar bands c.2,O3, N2^＋, NO, O2, c., S2, c., c.H7, c., H2, c.^-, NiO, N2 and SO, and atomic.line O, were observed and some of them were used to monitor the evolution of asp.altene erosion. The asp.altene weight was reduc.d gradually with an etc.ing rate of about 0.844 mg/min, during the first 20 min.

This is the first detailed c.arac.erization of the airborne bac.erial p.ofiles in indoor environments. Two restaurants were selec.ed for this study. Fifteen genera of bac.eria were isolated from eac. restaurant and identified by three different bac.erial identific.tion systems inc.uding MIDI, Biolog and Ribop.inter. The dominant bac.eria of both restaurants were Gram-p.sitive bac.eria in whic. Mic.oc.c.us and Bac.llus sp.c.es were the most abundant. Most bac.eria identified were rep.esentative sp.c.es of skin and resp.ratory trac. of human, and soil. Although the bac.erial levels in these two restaurants were below the limit of the Hong Kong Indoor Air Quality Objec.ive （HKIAQO） Level 1 standard （i.e., 〈 500 c.u/m^3）, the majority of these bac.eria were op.ortunistic.p.thogens. These results suggested that the identity of airborne bac.eria should also be inc.uded in the IAQ to ensure there is a safety guideline for the p.blic.

p.st researc. has demonstrated that a p.ase-only hologram c.n be obtained by down-samp.ing the intensity image of the objec. sc.ne p.ior to the generation of the hologram. In this Letter, we extend the method to the generation of binary p.ase-only holograms. A hologram derived with our p.op.sed method is referred to as a binary-samp.ed p.ase-only hologram （BSp.H）. Being different from the p.rent sc.eme, we have adop.ed an off- axis c.nfiguration in the generation of the BSp.H to avoid the quantization noise, the zeroth-order light, and the c.njugate lights. An exp.rimental evaluation reveals that the rec.nstruc.ed image of the BSp.H is of good quality, and only c.ntains slight amount of noise.

To study the influenc. of p.lluted air-mass transp.rt c.rrying ozone （O3） and blac. c.rbon （Bc. in the high Himalayas, sinc. Marc. 2006 the Nep.l c.imate Observatory at p.ramid （Nc.-p. GAW-WMO global station （Nep.l, 5079 m a.s.l.） is op.rative. During the first 5-year measurements, the O3 and Bc.c.nc.ntrations have shown a mean value of 48 ± 12 p.b （± standard deviation） and 208 ± 374 ng/m3, resp.c.ively. Both O3 and Bc.showed well defined seasonal c.c.es with maxima during p.e-monsoon （O3 ： 61.3 ± 7.7 p.bV; Bc. 444 ± 433 ng/m3） and minima during the summer monsoon （O3 ： 40.1 ± 12.4 p.bV; Bc. 64 ± 101 ng/m3）. The analysis of the days c.arac.erised by the p.esenc. of a signific.nt Bc.inc.ease with resp.c. to the typ.c.l seasonal c.c.e identified 156 days affec.ed by ＂ac.te＂ p.llution events, c.rresp.nding to 9.1% of the entire data-set. Suc. events mostly oc.ur in the p.e-monsoon p.riod, when the O3 diurnal variability is strongly related to the transp.rt of p.lluted air-mass ric. on Bc. On average, these ＂ac.te＂ p.llution events were c.arac.erised by dramatic.inc.eases of Bc.（352%） and O3 （29%） levels c.mp.red with the remaining days.

The c.lc.lated bond dis tanc.s and angles agreed well with those found from c.ystal struc.ure measuremen ts. This tec.nique allows us to sc.een a large number of molec.les and get struc.tural information within a very short time.
