AIM: To analyse the imp.ct of ultrasound and op.ical intraocular lens(IOL) calculation methods on refractive outcomes of cataract p.acoemulsification p.rformed after p.netrating keratop.asty(p.) in keratoconus. METHODS: p.acoemulsification cataract surgery was p.rformed on 42 eyes of 34 p.tients with keratoconus who had p.eviously undergone p.. The IOL p.wer was determined by using both standard and corneal top.grap.y-derived keratometry using the SRK/T formula. We used two indep.ndent methods-ultrasound biometry(UB) and interferometry [op.ical biometry(OB)] for IOL calculation. The analysed data from medical records included demograp.ics, medical history, best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) on Snellen charts, technique of IOL calculation and calculation formula and its imp.ct on final refractive ***: BCVA ranged from 0.01 to 0.4(mean 0.09±0.19) before surgery and ranged from 0.2 to 0.7(mean 0.38±0.14) at 1 mo and from 0.2 to 1.0(mean 0.56±0.16)(p.0.05) at 3 mo, p.stop.ratively. The refractive aim differed significantly from the refractive outcome in both the UB and OB group.(p.0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the accuracy of the two biometry ***: The refractive aim in keratoconus eyes p.st-p. is not achieved with either ultrasound or OB.

The p.tential Relationship.between the Incidence of Neurodegenerative Disease and Trace Mineral Comp.sition in the Drinking Water of Rural Residents of Ontario

Many chronic degenerative diseases have been linked to high intake of various trace and heavy metals. The p.esence of these comp.unds in drinking water may be a significant contributing factor to total dietary intake and dep.sition, resulting in the p.op.gation of a disease cascade. Dairy farm families residing in rural Ontario comp.eted a survey p.rtaining to the health status of the individuals living on-farm. Water samp.es were also collected at each location and analyzed for mineral content. Out of 200 surveys delivered to farms, 134 were returned, which formed a study group.comp.ised of 218 adult and 230 children p.rticip.nts. Taking into consideration several factors, such as genetics, environment and diet, the data were analyzed for correlations between heavy metal and mineral status and the p.evalence of neurodegenerative diseases. The findings from this study suggest p.osp.orus, p.tassium and magnesium concentrations may p.ay a role in the develop.ent of neurodegenerative diseases. Total hardness and p. of water may also have an imp.ct on the develop.ent of these diseases.

We op.imized Origanum majorana (OM) extraction for mild steel corrosion inhibition in neutral 0.5 M chloride medium. The inhibition mechanism evolved in p.esence of the op.imal extract was discussed when calculating the activation energy (Ea), the activation enthalp. (ΔaH) as well as the activation entrop. (ΔaS). The OM extract molecules were investigated using the density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYp.6-31G(d,p. basis set level. 1-methyl-4-p.op.n-2-ylcyclohexa-1,3-diene alp.a-terp.nene was p.edicted exhibiting the most inhibition cap.bilities.

Conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma is a common malignant tumor in adults. It affects the p.ri-limbic conjunctiva. This is a neop.asia that is increasing in trop.cal Africa because it occurs in subjects with p.olonged exp.sure to ultraviolet rays, in p.tients immunocomp.omised to the human immunodeficiency virus and Hp. infection. Comp.ted tomograp.y allows one to make a diagnosis. We rep.rt the case of 57 p.tients in whom the diagnosis was made radiologically and confirmed by histology.

MX 2 (M=Mo, W; X=S, Se) and DLC (a C: H and WC/C) are the two kinds of typ.cal low friction coatings widely used in industry. The friction and wear p.op.rties of these two kinds of coatings marked as MOVIC, MOST, MoSe 2/Ni, WSe 2, a C: H and WC/C coatings were determined by fretting tests in ambient air of different humidity. The results show that the coefficient of friction of MX 2 coatings increases when the relative humidity of air increases whereas the coefficient of friction DLC coatings decreases with the increasing of relative humidity. MOVIC and WSe 2 coatings have a p.or friction and wear resistance because of non basal p.anes (100) and (101) p.rallel to the surface in the MOVIC coating, or the rough and p.rous surface of WSe 2 coatings. Among these six coatings, MoSe 2/Ni and WC/C coatings have the highest wear resistance which seems to be unaffected by the relative humidity.

Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of sentin el lymp. node (SLN) identification using radioisotop.c lymp.atic map.ing with te chnetium-99 m-labeled p.ytate in p.tients undergoing radical hysterectomy with p.lvic lymp.adenectomy for treatment of early cervical cancer. Methods. Between July 2001 and February 2003, 56 p.tients with cervical cancer FIGO stage I (n = 53) or stage II (n = 3)underwent sentinel lymp. node detection with p.eop.rativ e lymp.oscintigrap.y (99mTc-labeled p.ytate injected into the uterine cervix, a t 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock, at a dose of 55-74 MBq in a volume of 0.8 ml) and i ntraop.rative lymp.atic map.ing with a handheld gamma p.obe. Radical hysterectom y was aborted in three cases because p.rametrial invasion was found intraop.rati vely and we p.rformed only sentinel node resection. The remaining 53 p.tients un derwent radical hysterectomy with comp.ete p.lvic lymp.adenectomy. Sentinel node s were detected using a handheld gamma-p.obe and removed for p.thological asses sment during the abdominal radical hysterectomy and p.lvic lymp.adenectomy. Resu lts. One or more sentinel nodes were detected in 52 out of 56 eligible p.tients (92.8%). A total of 120 SLNs were detected by lymp.oscintigrap.y (mean 2.27 nod es p.r p.tient) and intraop.ratively by gamma p.obe. Forty-four p.rcent of SLNs were found in the external iliac area, 39%in the obturator region, 8.3%in int eriliac region, and 6.7%in the common iliac area. Unilateral sentinel nodes wer e found in thirty-one p.tients (59%). The remaining 21 p.tients (41%) had bil ateral sentinel nodes. Microscop.c nodal metastases were confirmed in 17 (32%) cases. In 10 of these p.tients, only SLNs had metastases. The 98 sentinel nodes that were negative on hematoxylin and eosin were submitted to cytokeratin immuno histochemical analysis. 目的:探究茂名地区婴幼儿维生素A、D_(2+3)、E营养状况。方法:收集2019年8月-2020年9月于茂名地区出生的1 108例婴幼儿静脉血标本。使用液相色谱-串联质谱法(LC-MS/MS)进行脂溶性维生素A、D_(2+3)、E检测,对获得数据进行分析统计,分析脂溶性维生素A、D_(2+3)、E与婴幼儿年龄的关系。结果:本研究纳入的1 108例婴幼儿血清样本中,维生素A正常率为77.98%;维生素D_(2+3)充足率为55.60%;维生素E正常率为32.13%,维生素E可以接受率为61.64%。本研究纳入的24例早产儿中,维生素A缺乏率为4.17%,边缘维生素A缺乏为58.33%,维生素A正常率为37.50%;维生素D_(2+3)缺乏率为79.17%,维生素D_(2+3)不足率为20.83%;维生素E正常率为4.17%,维生素E可以接受率为95.83%。脂溶性维生素A、D_(2+3)、E正常率均低于总体情况,差异均有统计学意义(p.0.05)。p.0.05)。≥1岁且p.0.05)。≥2岁的维生素E正常率高于p.0.05);≥1岁且p.0.05)。经Sp.arman相关性分析,婴幼儿年龄与脂溶性维生素A存在正相关性(p.0.05),婴幼儿年龄与脂溶性维生素D_(2+3)、E均无相关性(p.0.05)。结论:茂名市地区婴幼儿脂溶性维生素A水平尚可,婴幼儿脂溶性维生素D_(2+3)、E水平正常率占比较低,早产儿普遍存在脂溶性维生素A、D_(2+3)、E缺乏。婴幼儿年龄与脂溶性维生素A存在正相关性,与脂溶性维生素D_(2+3)、E无相关性。

An ecological zonation of p.ytop.ankton was determined from its normalized sp.ctral absorp.ion shap. (ap.n) during the summers of 2001-02-03 off the west coast of Baja California. In the first two seasons, the highest abundances of the main taxonomic group. of p.ytop.ankton were detected towards the coastal stations, but for 2003, diatoms showed higher abundances towards the oceanic region. The ecological p.ovinces (p.) were the footp.int of the zonation in the structure of the p.ytop.ankton community;likewise, it was observed that the sp.ctral shap. was indep.ndent of the chlorop.yll-a (mg·m-3). The effect of coastal up.elling south of Vizcaíno Bay favored the increase of p.ytop.ankton cells. However, the comp.sition of the community decreased in cells abundance and diversity due to the influence of the p.enomenon called El Nino “débil” rep.rted to the south of the California Current for the years 2002-03.

Background: Endoscop.c removal of malfunctioning self-exp.ndable metallic biliary stents (SEMS) is difficult and not well described. The aim of this study is to review the indications, the techniques, and the results of SEMS removal in a cohort of p.tients with malfunctioning stents. Methods: All p.tients who underw ent an attemp. at endoscop.c removal of biliary SEMS over a 5-year p.riod were retrosp.ctively identified. The main indications for SEMSremovalwere the followi ng: distal migration of the stent or imp.ction to the duodenum, imp.ction into t he bile-duct wall, tissue ingrowth, and inap.rop.iate length of the stent causi ng occlusion of intrahep.tic ducts. SEMS were removed by using foreign-body for cep. or p.lyp.ctomy snares. Results: Endoscop.c removal of 39 SEMS (13 uncovered and 26 covered) was attemp.ed in 29 p.tients (17 men; mean age, 66 years). SEMS extraction was attemp.ed after a mean of 7.5 months (8.75 months standard devia tion) p.st-SEMS insertion. Removal was successful in 20 p.tients (68.9%) and i n 29 SEMS (74.3%). Covered SEMS were effectively removed more frequently than u ncovered ones: 24 of 26 (92.3%) and 5 of 13 (38.4%), resp.ctively (p.p.ications were recorded. Multivariate analysis showed that the time interval between insertion and removal, SEMS length, stent-mesh design (zigzag vs. interlaced), and indication for removal were no t p.edictive of success at stent removal. Conclusions: Endoscop.c removal of bil iary SEMS is feasible and safe in more than 70%of cases. Because only 38%of un covered SEMS were removable, the p.esence of a stent covering is the only factor p.edictive of successful stent extraction. The p.esence of diffuse and severe i ngrowth was the main feature limiting SEMS removal.
