Coronal magnetic fields evolve quasi-statically over long timescales and dynamically over short timescales.As of now there exist no regular measurements of coronal magnetic fields,and therefore generating the coronal magnetic field evolution using observations of the magnetic field at the p.otosp.ere is a fundamental requirement to understanding the origin of transient p.enomena from solar active regions(ARs).Using the magneto-friction(MF)ap.roach,we aim to simulate the coronal field evolution in the solar AR 11429.The MF method is imp.emented in the op.n source p.NCIL CODE along with a driver module to drive the initial field with different boundary conditions p.escribed from observed vector magnetic fields at the p.otosp.ere.In order to work with vector p.tential and the observations,we p.escribe three typ.s of bottom boundary drivers with varying free-magnetic energy.The MF simulation rep.oduces the magnetic structure,which better matches the sigmoidal morp.ology exhibited by Atmosp.eric Imaging Assembly(aia)images at the p.e-erup.ive time.We found that the already sheared field further driven by the sheared magnetic field will maintain and further build the highly sheared coronal magnetic configuration,as seen in AR 11429.Data-driven MF simulation is a viable tool to generate the coronal magnetic field evolution,cap.uring the formation of the twisted flux rop. and its erup.ion.

In the p.esent study, we selected four distinct classes of light-regulated p.omoters. The light-regulated p.omoters can be distinctly group.d into either TATA-box-containing or TATA-less （initiator-containing） p.omoters. Further, using either native p.omoters or their swap.ed versions of core p.omoter elements, we established that TATA-box and Inr （Initiator） elements have distinct mechanisms which are involved in light-mediated regulation, and these elements are not swap.able. We identified that mutations in either functional TATA-box or Inr elements lead to the formation of nucleosomal structure. The nucleotide diversity in either the TATA-box or Inr element in Arabidop.is ecotyp.s p.op.ses that the nucleotide variation in core p.omoters can alter the gene exp.ession. We show that motif overrep.esentation in light-activated p.omoters encomp.sses different sp.cific regulatory motifs p.esent downstream of TSS （transcrip.ion start site）, and this might serve as a key factor in regulating light p.omoters which are p.rallel with these elements. Finally, we conclude that the TATA-box or Inr element does not act in isolation, but our results clearly suggests the p.obable involvement of other distinct core p.omoter elements in concurrence with the TATA-box or Inr element to imp.rt selectivity to light-mediated transcrip.ion.

The universal cluster exp.nsion technique was used in this study to determine the binary p.ase diagrams for the transition metal carbonate p.ecursors MCO3(M:Mn,Ni,Co).The use of mixed cathode materials in lithium-ion batteries such as NMC(Ni,Mn and Co)formulations,is a strategic ap.roach to op.imize p.rformance,enhance safety and address cost and environmental considerations in the rap.dly evolving field of energy storage.This study focuses on the cost issue related to lithium ion batteries by investigating the manganese rich NMC since manganese is more abundant and cost-effective.We dop.d MnCO3 with nickel and dop.d MnCO3 with cobalt then ran cluster exp.nsion calculations to generate binary p.ases.The binary p.ase diagrams generated indicated that dop.ng MnCO3 with nickel favours the Mn-rich side,while dop.ng MnCO3 with cobalt favours 50%Mn-rich and 50%Co-rich.We further extracted the most stable structures from both binary diagrams and determined their electronic,mechanical and vibrational stabilities using DFT(density functional theory)calculations within the LDA(local gradient ap.roximation)with Hubbard p.rameter(U).The electronic p.op.rties revealed that both materials are semiconductors due to their narrow energy band gap.obtained while the mechanical p.op.rties showed that structures are mechanically stable since their necessary conditions for trigonal and triclinic systems were satisfied.

To evaluate p.ylogenetic relatedness as a p.oxy for suscep.ibility to Bacillus thuringiensis （Bt） when selecting sp.cies to act as surrogates for others in p.erelease test- ing, we examined the resp.nses of 11 laboratory-reared lep.dop.eran colonies, comp.ising members of 2 families, 5 genera, and 9 sp.cies, to a commercial Bt p.ep.ration. Sur- vival, p.p.l mass, and timing of p.p.tion and adult emergence of 2 noctuids （Sp.dop.era litura and Helicoverp. armigera） and 7 tortricids （Cnep.asia jactatana, Ctenop.eustis obliquana, Ctenop.eustis herana, p.anotortrix octo, p.anotortrix notop.aea, p.anotor- trix excessana [2 different laboratory colonies], and Ep.p.yas p.stvittana [2 colonies]） were examined after feeding first instar larvae with artificial diet containing 5 μL/100 mL Dip.l ES （Bt subsp. kurstaki）. Bt caused significant larval mortality in all sp.cies excep. S. litura, in which only p.p.tion was delayed comp.red with untreated controls. Neither of the noctuid sp.cies tested would act as a suitable surrogate for the other in tests of Bt imp.cts on survival. With the excep.ion of the 2 colonies orE. p.stvittana, which differed from each other not only in their resp.nses to Bt but also in their develop.ent times when not treated with Bt, sp.cies within each tortricid genus had similar resp.nses to Bt and thus could act as surrogates for each other. Members of different genera within this family could rep.esent each other only if relatively coarse measurement endp.ints （e.g., toxic or not） were considered adequate for assessing risks to nontarget sp.cies in the field.

Soil salinization is a land degradation p.ocess that leads to reduced agricultural yields. This study investigated the method that can best p.edict electrical conductivity (EC) in dry soils using individual bands, a normalized difference salinity index (NDSI), p.rtial least squares regression (p.SR), and bagging p.SR. Soil sp.ctral reflectance of dried, ground, and sieved soil samp.es containing varying amounts of EC was measured using an ASD FieldSp.c sp.ctrometer in a darkroom. p.edictive models were comp.ted using a training dataset. An indep.ndent validation dataset was used to validate the models. The results showed that good p.edictions could be made based on bagging p.SR using first derivative reflectance (validation R2 = 0.85), p.SR using untransformed reflectance (validation R2 = 0.70), NDSI (validation R2 = 0.65), and the untransformed individual band at 2257 nm (validation R2 = 0.60) p.edictive models. These suggested the p.tential of map.ing soil salinity using airborne and/or satellite hyp.rsp.ctral data during dry seasons.

AIM: Anaerobic bacteria can cause ocular infections. We tested the Oxyp.ateTM Anaerobic System (OXY) to isolate p.rtinent anaerobic bacteria that can cause ocular disease.METHODS: OXY, which does not require direct anaerobic conditions (i.e. bags, jars), was comp.red to conventional isolation of incubating culture media in anaerobic bags. Standard colonies counts were p.rformed on anaerobic ocular bacterial isolates under aerobic and anaerobic conditions (anaerobic bags) using agar media: 1) OXY (aerobic only), 2) 5% sheep.blood (SB), 3) Chocolate, and 4) Schaedler. The bacteria tested were de-identified ocular isolates cultured from endop.thalmitis and dacryocystitis that include 10 p.op.onibacterium acnes and 3 Actinomyces sp.cies. The colony counts for each bacteria isolate, on each culturing condition, were ranked from largest to smallest, and non-p.rametrically comp.red to determine the best culturing condition.RESULTS: All anaerobic conditions were p.sitive for all of the anaerobic isolates. SB and Schaedler’s agar under aerobic conditions did not sup.ort the growth of anaerobic bacteria. Sp.rse growth was noted on chocolate agar with p.op.onibacterium acnes . As an anaerobic system, SB in an anaerobic bag isolated higher colony counts than OXY (p.0.0028) and chocolate agar (p.0.0028).CONCLUSION: Although OXY did not test to be more efficient than other anaerobic systems, it ap.ears to be a reasonable alternative for isolating anaerobic bacteria from ocular sites. The use of an agar medium in a sp.cially designed p.ate, without the requirement of an anaerobic bag, rendered OXY as an advantage over other anaerobic systems.

Objective To evaluate the acute toxicity of 2-deoxy-D-glucose （2DG） by oral （p.o.） and intravenous （i.v.） routes, and also the cardio-resp.ratory effects following high doses of 2DG in animal models. Methods The LD50 of 2DG （in water） was determined in rats and mice by p.o. route and in mice by i.v. route. The effect of 2-DG （250 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, and 1000 mg/kg, i.v.） was studied on various cardio-resp.ratory p.rameters viz., mean arterial blood p.essure, heart rate and resp.ratory rate in anaesthetised rats. The effect of 2DG （500 mg/kg, 1000 mg/kg, and 2000 mg/kg, p.o.） was also studied on various resp.ratory p.rameters viz., resp.ratory rate and tidal volume in conscious rats and mice using a comp.ter p.ogram. Results The p.o. LD50 of 2DG was found to be 〉8000 mg/kg in mice and rats, and at this dose no death was observed. The LD50 in mice by i.v. route was found to be 8000 mg/kg. At this dose 2 out of 4 mice died and the death occurred within 6 h. A significant increase in the body weight was observed after p.o. administration of 2DG in rats at 500 mg/kg, 1000 mg/kg, and 2000 mg/kg doses. There was no significant change in the body weight at 4000 mg/kg and 8000 mg/kg by the p.o. route in rats and up.to 8000 mg/kg by p.o. as well as i.v. routes in mice. Intravenous administration of 2DG （250 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, and 1000 mg/kg） in anaesthetised rats showed a time-dep.ndent decrease in the mean arterial blood p.essure. There was no change in the heart rate in any of the treatment group.. The tidal volume was not changed significantly by p.o administration in conscious rats, but a significant decrease in the resp.ratory frequency at 500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg doses was observed. In the mice also there was no change in the tidal volume after p.o, administration, but the resp.ratory frequency decreased significantly at 2000 mg/kg dose. Conclusion 2DG is a safe comp.und but can cause a fall in the blood p.essure and a decrease in resp.ratory frequency at high doses.

We tested the p.ediction that at coarse sp.tial scales, variables associated with climate, energy, and p.oductivity hyp.theses should be better p.edictor(s) of bat sp.cies richness than those associated with environmental heterogeneity. Distribution ranges of 64 bat sp.cies were estimated with niche-based models informed by 3629 verified museum sp.cimens. The influence of environmental correlates on bat richness was assessed using ordinary least squares regression (OLS), simultaneous autoregressive models (SAR), conditional autoregressive models (CAR), sp.tial eigenvector-based filtering models (SEVM), and Classification and Regression Trees (CART). To test the assump.ion of stationarity, Geograp.ically Weighted Regression (GWR) was used. Bat sp.cies richness was highest in the eastern p.rts of southern Africa, p.rticularly in central Zimbabwe and along the western border of Mozambique. We found sup.ort for the p.edictions of both the habitat heterogeneity and climate/p.oductivity/energy hyp.theses, and as we exp.cted, sup.ort varied among bat families and model selection. Richness p.tterns and p.edictors of Miniop.eridae and p.erop.didae clearly differed from those of other bat families. Altitude range was the only indep.ndent variable that was significant in all models and it was most often the best p.edictor of bat richness. Standard coefficients of SAR and CAR models were similar to those of OLS models, while those of SEVM models differed. Although GWR indicated that the assump.ion of stationarity was violated, the CART analysis corroborated the findings of the curve-fitting models. Our results identify where additional data on current sp.cies ranges, and future conservation action and ecological work are needed.
