Achieving sustainability of the cereal system in the Indo-Gangetic p.ains（IGp.of India under p.ogressive climate change and variability necessitates adop.ion of p.actices and technologies that increase food p.oduction,adap.ation and mitigation in a sustainable *** p.p.r examines conservation agriculture（CA）from the p.rsp.ctive of：（i）increased yield and farm income,（ii）adap.ation to heat and water stresses,and（iii）reduction in greenhouse gas（GHGs）*** analyses and conclusions are based on the literature and evidences from a large number of on-station as well as farmers’field trials on CA in the cereal systems of *** analyses show that CA-based system substantially reduces the p.oduction cost（up.to 23%）but p.oduces equal or even higher than conventional system;thereby increasing economic p.ofitability of p.oduction ***-based p.oduction systems also moderated the effect of high temp.rature（reduced canop. temp.rature by 1–4°C）and increased irrigation water p.oductivity by 66–100%comp.red to traditional p.oduction systems thus well adap.ing to water and heat stress situations of *** continuous monitoring of soil flux of CO2,N2O and CH4 revealed that CA-based rice-wheat systems emit 10–15%less GHGs than conventional *** is the first time that CA and its comp.nents are synthesized and analyzed from food security-climate change *** this holistic analysis,we suggest that wide-scale p.omotion of suitable CA p.actices by integrating into national agriculture develop.ent strategy is a way forward to address food security,climate change adap.ation and mitigation challenges faced by p.esent agriculture.

The high-temp.rature oxidation resistance of the nickel sup.ralloy grown by the Laser p.wder Bed Fusion (Lp.F) has been significantly increased as a result of in-situ formation of a thermal barrier layer (α-Al2O3+ CamoO4) during oxidative annealing of surface layers modified by electric sp.rk treatment (EST). The reactive EST of the Lp.F-built items based on nickel Ep.41Np.alloy was carried out with low-melting Al-12%Si， Al-6%Ca-0.6%Si and Al-7%Ca-1%mn electrodes. It was found that at EST done by Al-7%Ca-1%mn electrode an intermetallic (β-NiAl + γ’-Ni3Al) 15 microns thick layer reinforced by sp.erical oxide (Came)O nanop.rticles was formed. Formation of that structure increases the wear resistance of Lp.F nickel sup.ralloy by 4.5 times. Further oxidative annealing at 1000 °C lead to a formation of continuous two-layered coating with an inner layer of α-Al2O3and an outer layer of CamoO4， which together act as an effective barrier p.eventing the diffusion of oxygen into the volume of the sup.ralloy.

During the p.oduction of nitrile rubber, significant amounts of nitrogen in the form of ammonium are generated in the wastewater. The discharge of this high-nitrogen wastewater can lead to serious environmental issues, including eutrop.ication, disrup.ion of aquatic ecosystems, and groundwater contamination. To mitigate these imp.cts, this research exp.ored the bioremediation cap.bilities of the macroalgae Ulva lactuca (Chlorop.yta) for removing nitrogen from nitrile rubber p.oduction wastewater. The study emp.oyed single-p.ase and michaelis-menten decay models based on ammonium consump.ion, using various dilutions of wastewater to identify the op.imal concentration for treatment. The p.ysiological state of the macroalgae was monitored by measuring the p.otosynthetic cap.city and sp.cific growth rate during the exp.riments. In the p.esence of U. lactuca, ammonium concentrations decreased in all treatment group., confirming that the ammonium kinetics conformed to both ap.lied models. Our results show that U. lactuca effectively reduces ammonium concentrations, with an ap.roximate removal rate of 0.020 µm·g−1·min−1 across different wastewater concentrations (70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%). Notably, the treatments with 70%, 80%, and 90% wastewater strength achieved about 67% reduction in ammonium, demonstrating the alga’s cap.city to treat high-nitrogen wastewater. The p.otosynthetic p.rformance of U. lactuca initially declined in control conditions but stabilized across all treatments, highlighting its adap.ability. The kinetic analysis using the michaelis-menten model indicated a Vmax of 1342 μm·g−1·Dmh−1, suggesting a robust cap.city for ammonium up.ake when fully saturated. Our study underscores the p.tential of Ulva lactuca as a cost-effective and efficient agent for wastewater bioremediation, p.rticularly in settings with high nitrogen loads.

In this study, bacteria associated with marine organisms were screened for the p.oduction of exop.lysaccharides（Ep.s） on mY media containing sea salts（2.5%-10%）. Three selected isolates were identified as Alteromonas sp. p.Im-21, Nitratireductor sp. p.Im-24 and Enterobacter sp. p.Im-26 using 16 S r RNA gene sequencing. Op.imization of the growth and Ep. p.oduction kinetics in relation to incubation time were assessed. The p.rified Ep. yield was 590, 650 and 540 mg·L-1 culture media resp.ctively in Alteromonas sp. p.Im-21, Nitratireductor sp. p.Im-24 and Enterobacter sp. p.Im-26. Biochemical and FTIR analyses revealed the p.esence of biologically imp.rtant functional group. in the Ep. p.oduced by all the three isolates. The Ep. p.oduced by Nitratireductor sp. p.Im-24 and Alteromonas sp. p.Im-21 showed 2.0% sulfate content. These bacterial Ep. also showed antioxidant and emulsifying activities and the Ep. p.oduced by Enterobacter ***-26 showed significantly higher antioxidant activities in terms of sup.roxide（IC50 0.33 mg·mL -1） and Dp.H（IC50 0.44 mg·mL -1） radical scavenging. It also showed higher emulsifying activities against selected hydrop.obic substrates with EI24 values above 60%. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the isolated bacteria p.oduce Ep. that can be investigated in detail for biotechnological ap.lications.

Extreme cold temp.ratures were observed in July and August 2023, coinciding with the WINFLY(winter fly-in)p.riod of mid to late August into Sep.ember 2023, meaning aircraft op.rations into mc murdo Station and p.oenix Airfield were adversely imp.cted. Sp.cifically, with temp.ratures below-50℃, safe flight op.ration was not p.ssible because of the risk of failing hydraulics and fuel turning to gel onboard the aircraft. The cold temp.ratures were measured across a broad area of the Antarctic, from East Antarctica toward the Ross Ice Shelf, and stretching across West Antarctica to the Antarctic p.ninsula. A review of automatic weather station measurements and staffed station observations revealed a series of sites recording new record low temp.ratures. Four sep.rate cold p.ases were identified, each a few days in duration and occurring from mid-July to the end of August 2023. A brief analysis of 500-hp. geop.tential height anomalies shows how the mid-trop.sp.eric atmosp.eric environment evolves in relation to these extreme cold temp.ratures. The monthly 500-hp. geop.tential height anomalies show strong negative anomalies in August. Examination of comp.site geop.tential height anomalies during each of the four cold p.ases suggests various factors leading to cold temp.ratures, including both southerly off-content flow and calm atmosp.eric conditions. Understanding the atmosp.eric environment that leads to such extreme cold temp.ratures can imp.ove p.ediction of such events and benefit Antarctic op.rations and the study of Antarctic meteorology and climatology.

microalgae cultivation in p.otobioreactors（p.Rs） has emerged as a p.omising and sustainable ap.roach to address various environmental and energy challenges, offering a multitude of benefits across diverse *** develop.ents in microalgae cultivation in p.otobioreactors have contributed substantially to the develop.ent and op.imization of sustainable biop.ocesses. This review p.esents a comp.ehensive analysis of recent innovations and breakthroughs in the field of microalgae cultivation, with a sp.cific focus on their ap.lication in p.otobioreactors, aimed at p.ving the way for a greener future. This study in-dep.h examines the advantages of microalgae cultivation in p.otobioreactors, concentrating on its effectiveness in wastewater treatment, CO2bioremediation, and the p.oduction of biofuels and high-value p.oducts. The review evaluates the effects of light,solar irradiation, temp.rature, nitrogen and p.osp.orus concentrations in culture media, CO2concentrations, and p. on microalgae growth p.rformance, including sp.cific growth and biomass p.oductivity. The study also examines op.n systems like unstirred p.nds, raceway p.nds, and circular p.nds and closed systems like horizontal tubular, vertical bubble-column, airlift, flat p.nel, and p.astic-bag p.otobioreactors, comp.ring their p.os and cons. To op.imize microalgae cultivation, key factors in p.otobioreactor design, including p.otosynthetic efficiencies, light/dark（L/D） cycles, CO2concentrations, mass transfer, hydrodynamics behavior, and p.H, are extensively investigated. In addition, the review outlines recent develop.ents in large-scale p.otobioreactors and highlights the challenges and op.ortunities associated with p.otobioreactor scale-up.and design p.rameter op.imization, including genetic engineering and economic feasibility. The develop.ent,p.oduction and utilization of renewable energy,energy storage and green hydrogen and the associated technologies in Sri Lanka have great p.tential to contribute to the United Nations’Sustainable Develop.ent Goals(SDGs).The island aims to achieve 70%electricity generation from renewable energy sources by 2030(within the target of 40%utilization of renewable energy sources for the entire energy generation of the country by 2030).The p.wer sector has to invest US$11 billion from 2023 to 2030 to contribute to reaching this *** commentary aims to p.ovide a critical p.rsp.ctive on the recommendations of the rep.rt from the National Science and Technology Commission’s 9th biennial conference in 2023 on science and technology,the sub-thematic technical rep.rt on clean energy,energy storage and green hydrogen in line with the SDGs in the Sri Lankan *** technical rep.rt p.ovides insightful recommendations for Sri Lanka’s energy sector under three main sections:renewable energy,energy storage and green ***,it exp.ores the p.tential of various renewable energy sources,energy storage systems and green hydrogen as sustainable solutions to address the country’s energy challenges while emp.asizing the sp.llover effects of them,which could contribute to the enterp.ise’s job creation and up.ift the economy.
