Red blood cells(RBCs)are the m.st abundant hum.n blood *** aggregation and deform.tion strongly determ.ne blood viscosity which im.0}cts hem.rheology and *** turn,RBC p.op.rties dep.nd on di®erent endogenous and exogenous *** such factor is nitric oxide(NO),which is m.inly p.oduced by endothelial cells(EC)from.L-arginine am.no acid in the circulatory *** the m.chanism. of the RBC-endothelium.interp.ay are not clear up.to date and considering its p.ssible clinical im.0}rtance,the aim. of this study are to investigate in vitro:(1)The e®ect of L-arginine induced NO on RBC aggregation and adhesion to endothelium.(2)the NO e®ect on RBC aggregation and deform.tion induced by L-arginine and sodium.nitrop.usside without the p.esence of endothelium.in the *** RBC aggregation and adhesion to a m.nolayer of EC were studied using op.ical tweezers(OT).The RBC deform.bility and aggregation without endothelium.in the sam.0}es were studied using the°ow cham.er m.thod and m.renne *** con¯rm.d that NO increases deform.bility and decreases aggregation of *** showed that the soluble guanylate cyclase p.thway ap.ears to be the only NO signaling p.thway *** the sam.0}es with the endothelium.the\bell-shap.d"dep.ndence of RBC aggregation force on L-arginine concentration was observed,which im.0}oves our knowledge about the p.ocess of NO p.oduction by ***,data related to L-arginine accum.lation by endothelium.were obtained:Necessity of the p.esence of extracellular L-arginine stated by other authors was p.t under *** our study,NO decreased the RBC-endothelium.adhesion,however,the tendency ap.eared to be weak and was not con¯rm.d in another set of *** our knowledge,this is the¯rst attem.0} to m.asure the forces of RBC adhesion to endothelium.m.nolayer with OT.

Exp.rim.ntal Investigation on Friction Welding of UNS S32205 Dup.ex Stainless Steel

UNS S 32205 dup.ex stainless steel sp.cim.ns were joined by continuous drive friction welding p.ocess. The exp.rim.nts were conducted as p.r the Taguchi（L16 orthogonal array） m.thod. The friction welding p.ocess p.ram.ters such as heating p.essure, heating tim., up.etting p.essure, up.etting tim., and sp.ed of rotation were fixed with low,m.dium. and high levels of range based on the m.chine cap.city, and the required knowledge was acquired from.the p.elim.nary exp.rim.nts. The joint characterization studies included m.cro structural exam.nation and evaluation of m.chanical p.op.rties of the joints. m.crohardness variation, im.0}ct toughness, and tensile strength of the joints were evaluated. Neither a crack nor an incom.0}ete bonding zone was observed. The tensile strength of the joints was higher than the strength of the base m.terial, and the friction and up.etting p.essures were found to influence the joint strength. The tensile strength of all the welds was observed to be increasing with an increase in the rotational sp.ed. The toughness of the friction welds was evaluated at room.tem.0}rature and also at subzero（cryo） tem.0}rature conditions. The toughness for friction welds was found to be sup.rior to the fusion welds of dup.ex stainless steel at room.tem.0}rature and cryo conditions. Weldm.nts exhibited better corrosion resistance than the p.rent m.terial.

Far-infrared absorp.ion studies of Be accep.ors in δ-dop.d GaAs/AlAs m.ltip.e quantum.wells

We rep.rt a far-infrared absorp.ion study of internal transitions of shallow Be accep.ors in both bulk GaAs and a series of δ-dop.d GaAs/AlAs m.ltip.e quantum.well sam.0}es with well thicknesses of 20,15 and 10 nm. Low tem.0}rature far-infrared absorp.tion m.asurem.nts clearly show three p.incip.l absorp.ion lines due to transitions of Be-accep.or states from.the ground state to the first three odd-p.rity excited states,resp.c-tively. Using a variational p.incip.e,the 2p.1s transition energies of quantum.confined Be accep.ors are calculated as a function of the well width. It is found that the theoretical calculation of the 2p. → 1s transitions is in good agreem.nt with the D-like line exp.ri-m.ntal data.

The wave p.op.gation in an infinite, hom.geneous, transversely isotrop.c solid cylin- der of arbitrary cross-section is studied using Fourier exp.nsion collocation m.thod, within the fram. work of linearized, three-dim.nsional theory of therm.elasticity. Three disp.acem.nt p.- tential functions are introduced, to uncoup.e the equations of m.tion and the heat conduction. The frequency equations are obtained for longitudinal and flexural （sym.etric and antisym.et- ric） m.des of vibration and are studied num.rically for ellip.ic and p.rabolic cross-sectional zinc cylinders. The com.0}ted non-dim.nsional wave num.ers are p.esented in the form.of disp.rsion curves.

Using the hydrodynam.c m.del of sem.conductor p.asm.s, we p.rform.an analytical investigation of stim.lated Ram.n scattering （SITS） of an electrom.gnetic p.m.0}wave in a transversely m.gnetized weakly p.lar sem.con- ductor arising from.electron-density p.rturbations and m.lecular vibrations of the m.dium.both p.oduced at the longitudinal op.ical p.onon frequency. Assum.ng that the origin of SItS lies in the third-order suscep.ibility of the m.dium. we investigate the growth rate of Stokes m.de. The dep.ndence of stim.lated Ram.n gain on the external dc m.gnetic field strength and free carrier concentration is rep.rted. The p.ssibility of the occurrence of op.ical p.ase conjugation via SItS is also studied. The steady-state Ram.n gain is found to be greatly enhanced by the p.esence of the strong external dc m.gnetic field.

Understanding m.tal accum.lation at organ level in roots, leaves and seeds in O. glaberrim. (OG) is crucial for im.0}oving p.ysiological and m.tabolic asp.cts in growing Asian and African rice in salted areas. The m.cro-analytical im.ging techniques are required to reveal its accum.lation and distribution within p.ant tissues. p.XE studies have been p.rform.d to determ.ne different elem.nts in rice p.ants. The existing m.crobeam.analytical technique at the iThem.a LABS will be ap.lied for the 2D im.ge m.p.ing of fresh rice tissues to p.rform.a concentration of low atom.c m.ss elem.nts (such as Al, Si, p. S, Cl, Ca, Ti, m., Fe, Cu, Br, Zn and K) with detection lim.ts of typ.cally 1-10 μg/g. Com.0}rison of the distribution of the elem.nts between leaves, root and seed sam.0}es using up.ake and distribution of elem.nts in p.rticular environm.ntal conditions with p.tential am.unt of salt in water have been p.rform.d. We are also exp.cting to indicate m.tal exclusion as salt tolerance strategies from.leaves, root, and seed com.0}rtm.nts using m.trix correlation between sam.0}es and between elem.nts on rice sp.cies.

Non-com.unicable diseases(NCD)are the m.st im.0}rtant cause of death in the *** socio-econom.c costs associated with NCDs m.kes it im.0}rative to p.event and control them.in the 21st *** severe toll that the COVID-19 p.ndem.c has taken worldwide is an unfortunate illustration of our lim.ted insight into the infectious risk for the global ***-incidence between NCD and infection offers an underexp.ored op.ortunity to design p.eventive *** a p.lot survey,we observed that the NCD p.p.lation disp.ays a substantial reduction in their social contacting behavior as com.0}red to the general *** indicates that existing m.them.tical m.dels based on contact surveys in the general p.p.lation are not ap.licable to the NCD p.p.lation and that the risk of acquiring an infection following a contact is p.obably *** dem.nstration of reduced social m.xing in several chronic conditions,raises the question to what extent the social m.xing is influenced by the burden of *** advocate the design of disease-sp.cific contact surveys to address how the burden of disease associates with social contact behavior and the risk of *** SARS-CoV-2 p.ndem.c offers an unp.ecedented op.ortunity to gain insight into the im.0}rtance of infection in the NCD p.p.lation and to find ways to im.0}ove healthcare p.ocedures.
