The intention of this work is to remove Reactive Blue 198(RB-198)dye components from simulated water solution using cold atmospheric pressure argon plasma *** solutions of RB-198 dye were treated as a function of various operating parameters such as applied potential,reaction time and distance between the plasma jet and surface of the *** efficiency of the degradation of RB-198 molecules was explored by means of Uv-vis *** reactive species involved during the treatment process were examined by optical emission spectra(OES).The present hydroxyl radicals(OH·radical)and hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)in the plasma-treated aqueous dye solutions were investigated using various spectroscopic *** other parameters such as total organic carbon(TOC),conductivity and p H were also *** toxicity of plasma-treated RB-198 solution was finally studied by diffusion bacterial analysis and by tracking seed germination *** results show that a higher degradation percentage of99.27%was acquired for the RB-198 treated at higher reaction time and applied potential,and shorter distance between the plasma jet and water *** may be due to the formation of various reactive oxygen(OH·radical,atomic oxygen(O)and H2O2)and nitrogen species(nitric oxide(NO)radicals and N2 second positive system(N2 SpS))during the processes as confirmed by OES analysis and other spectroscopy ***(17.7%-81.8%)and pH(7.5-3.4)values of the plasma-treated RB-198 decreased significantly with respect to various operation parameters,which indicates the decomposition of RB-198 molecules in the aqueous ***,the conductivity of plasma-treated RB-198 aqueous solutions was found to have increased linearly during the plasma treatment due to the formation of various ionic species in aqueous *** toxicity analysis clearly exhibits the non-toxic behavior of plasma-treated RB-198 aqueous solution towards the bacterial growth and germination of see

Study of pressure surge during priming phase of start transient in an initially unprimed pump-fed liquid rocket engine

In this paper, transient phenomenon during start up process of a pump fed liquidrocket engine is investigated through numerical simulation. The engine studied in this workis designed such that engine systems are not wetted with propellant until the engine is com-manded to start. This is achieved by positioning the valves for propellant admission at the inter-face of test stand/flight stage and the engine. To evaluate engine performance during starttransient for such systems, unsteady flow simulation was conducted using Method of Charac-teristics and equations for priming. The same has been reported in this work. The results indi-cated a brief period of abrupt pressure rise at pump upstream after opening of the propellantadmission valves, during the process of priming of engine systems at valve *** peak pressure obtained was significantly higher than the propellant tank pressure as wellas the steady state pump suction pressure. The transitory pressure rise was found to occurdue to flow resistance at impeller inlet caused by formation of a forced vortex for orientingthe flow through impeller blades during off design transient regime. The maximum pressureat pump upstream, as computed from start transient simulation, was used as a design inputfor pump inlet feed lines. The engine was realized and subsequently qualified in a ground test facility. Hot test data obtained for pressure and flow rate during transient regime were found tobe in good agreement with the simulation results.

Autism spectrum disorder:difficulties in diagnosis and microRNA biomarkers

We performed a pubMed search for microRNAs in autism spectrum disorder that could serve as diagnostic biomarkers in patients and selected 17 articles published from January 2008 to December 2023,of which 4 studies were performed with whole blood,4 with blood plasma,5 with blood serum,1 with serum neural cell adhesion molecule L1-captured extracellular vesicles,1 with blood cells,and 2 with peripheral blood mononuclear *** of the studies involved children and the study cohorts were largely *** of the studies had performed microRNA sequencing or quantitative polymerase chain reaction assays to measure microRNA *** five studies had used real-time polymerase chain reaction assay to validate microRNA expression in autism spectrum disorder subjects compared to *** microRNAs that were validated in these studies may be considered as potential candidate biomarkers for autism spectrum disorder and include miR-500a-5p,-197-5p,-424-5p,-664a-3p,-365a-3p,-619-5p,-664a-3p,-3135a,-328-3p,and-500a-5p in blood plasma and miR-151a-3p,-181b-5p,-320a,-328,-433,-489,-572,-663a,-101-3p,-106b-5p,-19b-3p,-195-5p,and-130a-3p in blood serum of children,and miR-15b-5p and-6126 in whole blood of *** important limitations were identified in the studies reviewed,and need to be taken into account in future *** studies are warranted with children and adults having different levels of autism spectrum disorder severity and consideration should be given to using animal models of autism spectrum disorder to investigate the effects of suppressing or overexpressing specific microRNAs as a novel therapy.

MicroRNAs as potential diagnostic biomarkers for bipolar disorder

Abnormal expression of microRNAs is connected to brain development and disease and could provide novel biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of bipolar disorder. We performed a pubMed search for microRNA biomarkers in bipolar disorder and found 18 original research articles on studies performed with human patients and published from January 2011 to June 2023. These studies included microRNA profiling in bloodand brain-based materials. From the studies that had validated the preliminary findings,potential candidate biomarkers for bipolar disorder in adults could be miR-140-3p,-30d-5p,-330-5p,-378a-5p,-21-3p,-330-3p,-345-5p in whole blood, miR-19b-3p,-1180-3p,-125a-5p, let-7e-5p in blood plasma, and miR-7-5p,-23b-5p,-142-3p,-221-5p,-370-3p in the blood serum. Two of the studies had investigated the changes in microRNA expression of patients with bipolar disorder receiving treatment. One showed a significant increase in plasma miR-134 compared to baseline after 4 weeks of treatment which included typical antipsychotics, atypical antipsychotics, and benzodiazepines. The other study had assessed the effects of prescribed medications which included neurotransmitter receptorsite binders(drug class B) and sedatives, hypnotics, anticonvulsants, and analgesics(drug class C) on microRNA results. The combined effects of the two drug classes increased the significance of the results for miR-219 and-29c with miR-30e-3p and-526b* acquiring significance. MicroRNAs were tested to see if they could serve as biomarkers of bipolar disorder at different clinical states of mania, depression, and euthymia. One study showed that upregulation in whole blood of miR-9-5p,-29a-3p,-106a-5p,-106b-5p,-107,-125a-3p,-125b-5p and of miR-107,-125a-3p occurred in manic and euthymic patients compared to controls, respectively, and that upregulation of miR-106a-5p,-107 was found for manic compared to euthymic patients. MicroRNAs as potential biomarkers for diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder

In this article, we investigates finite-time H∞ control problem of Markovian jumping neural networks of neutral type with distributed time varying delays. The mathematical model of the Markovian jumping neural networks with distributed delays is established in which a set of neural networks are used as individual subsystems. Finite time stability analysis for such neural networks is addressed based on the linear matrix inequality approach. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the usefulness of our proposed method. The results obtained are compared with the results in the literature to show the conservativeness.

Nonlinear optical spectroscopies are powerful tools for investigating both static material properties and light-induced ***(THz)emission spectroscopy has emerged in the past several decades as a versatile method for directly tracking the ultrafast evolution of physical properties,quasiparticle distributions,and order parameters within bulk materials and nanoscale *** optically-induced THz radiation is often analyzed mechanistically in terms of relative contributions from nonlinear polarization,magnetization,and various transient free charge *** this offers material-specific insights,more fundamental symmetry considerations enable the generalization of measured nonlinear tensors to much broader classes of *** thus frame the present discussion in terms of underlying broken symmetries,which enable THz emission by defining a system directionality in space and/or time,as well as more detailed point group symmetries that determine the nonlinear response *** this framework,we survey a selection of recent studies that utilize THz emission spectroscopy to uncover basic properties and complex behaviors of emerging materials,including strongly correlated,magnetic,multiferroic,and topological *** then turn to low-dimensional systems to explore the role of designer nanoscale structuring and corresponding symmetries that enable or enhance THz *** serves as a promising route for probing nanoscale physics and ultrafast light-matter interactions,as well as facilitating advances in integrated THz ***,the interplay between intrinsic and extrinsic material symmetries,in addition to hybrid structuring,may stimulate the discovery of exotic properties and phenomena beyond existing material paradigms.

Incorporation of silica into the goethite structure: a microscopic and spectroscopic study

Quartz and iron(hydr)oxide are reactive surface phases that are often associated with one another in soils and sediments. Despite the several studies on the coating of quartz with iron oxides, the reactivity of dissolved species(Si) leached from quartz with iron(hydr)oxides has received limited attention. In this study, goethite synthesized on quartz substrates were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscopy, and Fouriertransform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy. The SEM characterization revealed that bundles of thin parallel aligned goethite rods were formed at p H [ 10, while large pseudohexagonal crystals of twinned goethite needles were synthesized at p H B 10 after dehydration and hydration in the alkaline media. TEM analysis showed expanded and distorted lattice spacing of the crystal structure of iron(hydr)oxide due to silica incorporation. The characterization showed that silica increased the crystallite size of the goethite and transformed its acicular texture to a larger,twinned needle structure. FT-IR and XRD analyses revealed band shifts in crystal bonds as well as new bond formations, which indicate the presence of changes in the chemical environment of Fe–O and Si–O bonds. Thus, the presence of sorbed silicates modifies the crystal and lattice structure of goethite.

Abrasion of ultrafine WC-Co by fine abrasive particles

Abrasive wear of a series of WC-(5%-14%, mass fraction)Co hardmetals was investigated employing coarse and fine SiC abrasive under two-body dry abrasion conditions with pin-on-disc and edge-on-disc test arrangements. Unexpectedly, it is found that submicron grades demonstrate substantially higher wear rates comparing with the coarse grades if fine abrasive is utilized in pin-on-disc tests. Such a behavior is attributed to changes in a ratio of abrasive size to size of hard phase as finer abrasive is used. The edge-on-disc test demonstrates that edge wear may be described in two stages with the highest wear rates at the beginning stage. This behavior is associated with a transition of wear mechanisms as edge is wider due to wear. Compared with the ultrafine grades of the same Co content, the coarse grades demonstrate higher wear rates at the beginning, but lower wear rates at the final stage. Wear rates and mechanisms observed at final stage correlate well to the results observed for pin-on-disc tests employing fine abrasive.
