Influence of selenium induced oxidative stress on spermatogenesis and lactate dehydrogenase-X in mice testis

Aim: To evaluate the effect of oxidative stress on the spermatogenesis and lactate dehydrogenase-X (LDH-X) activity in mouse testis. methods: For creating different levels of oxidative stress in mice, three selenium (Se) level diets were fed in separate groups for 8 weeks. Group 1 animals were fed yeast-based Se-deficient (0.02 ppm) diet. Group 2 and Group 3 animals were fed with the same diet supplemented with 0.2 ppm and 1 ppm Se as sodium selenite, respectively. After 8 weeks, biochemical and histopathological observations of the testis were carried out. LDH-X levels in the testis were analyzed by western immunoblot and ELISA. Results: A significant decrease in testis Se level was observed in Group 1 animals, whereas it was enhanced in Group 3 as compared to Group 2. The glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) activity was significantly reduced in both the liver and testis in Group 1, but not in Group 2 and 3. A significant increase in the testis glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activity was observed in Group 1, whereas no significant change was seen in Groups 2 and 3. Histological analysis of testis revealed a normal structure in Group 2. A significant decrease in the germ cell population in Group 1 was observed as compared to Group 2 with the spermatids and mature sperm affected the most. Decrease in the lumen size was also observed. In the Se-excess group (Group 3), displacement of germ cell population was observed. Further, a decrease in the LDH-X level in testis was observed in Group 1. Conclusion: Excessive oxidative stress in the Se deficient group, as indicated by changes in the GSH-px/GST activity, affects the spermatogenic process with a reduction in mature sperm and in turn the LDH-X level.

A discrete model for response estimation of soil-structure systems with embedded foundations

The need for simplified physical models representing frequency dependent soil impedances has been the motivation behind many researches throughout history. Generally, such models are generated to capture impedance functions in a wide range of excitation frequencies, which leads to relatively complex models. That is while there is just a limited range of frequencies that really influence the response of the structure. Here, a new methodology based on the response-matching concept is proposed, which can lead to the development of simpler discrete models. The idea is then used to upgrade an existing simple model of surface foundations to the case of embedded foundations. The applicability of the model in both frequency domain and time domain analyses of soil-structure systems with embedded foundations is discussed. moreover, the accuracy of the results is compared with another existing discrete model for embedded foundations.

Ovaling deformation of circular tunnels has received great interest from the tunneling community because this mode of seismicinduced deformation is considered the most ***,there is growing evidence that other deformation modes can also be important and thus need to be considered in *** study presents a new analytical solution to estimate axial bending(snaking),a mode of deformation caused by S-waves impinging on a tunnel parallel to the tunnel *** solution is developed using the soilstructure interaction approach with the assumption that the interface between the ground and the tunnel lining is frictionless(fullslip).Full dynamic numerical simulations are conducted to verify the new full-slip solution,together with the existing no-slip *** of dynamic amplification are also explored for both full-slip and no-slip interface conditions by changing the wavelength(or frequency)of the seismic input motions.

Linear matrix inequality approach for synchronization control of fuzzy cellular neural networks with mixed time delays

Fuzzy cellular neural networks （FCNNs） are special kinds of cellular neural networks （CNNs）. Each cell in an FCNN contains fuzzy operating abilities. The entire network is governed by cellular computing laws. The design of FCNNs is based on fuzzy local rules. In this paper, a linear matrix inequality （LmI） approach for synchronization control of FCNNs with mixed delays is investigated. mixed delays include discrete time-varying delays and unbounded distributed delays. A dynamic control scheme is proposed to achieve the synchronization between a drive network and a response network. By constructing the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional which contains a triple-integral term and the free-weighting matrices method an improved delay-dependent stability criterion is derived in terms of LmIs. The controller can be easily obtained by solving the derived LmIs. A numerical example and its simulations are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The mahanadi delta,deposited on a series of horst and graben basement structures,is considered an extension of the East Lambert Rift of *** study is based on the hydrogeochemical assessment of this deltaic aquifer system and geospatial analysis thereof,to appreciate the basement structure influence on groundwater *** ion chemistry of subsurface waters portrays a distinct saline contamination across the terrain and varied regimes of water types,specifically with respect to southern and northern parts of this aquifer *** of the study indicate a general near surface saline horizon and significant fragmentation of the hydrostatic ***,in turn,implies noteworthy influence of formational water to salinity regimes and basin structural changes for the escape of these waters to surroundings.A plot of recent low intensity earthquakes displays proximity of epicenters to the faults as well as striking similarity to the trend of terrestrial faults indicating multiple reactivations of the *** further corroborate the above findings,spatial pattern analysis of individual hydrochemical variables is carried out which reveals specific clusters of sources(groundwater mixing)and sinks(groundwater dispersion) in proximity to basement fault *** the faults can be disregarded as conduits or barriers owing to their great depth,the overlying sedimentary mass,particularly,the horizons with significant clayey content have been distorted due to post rift subsidence and fault reactivations.A proximity analysis of ionic clusters points towards a greater influence of longitudinal faults to that of the transverse ones on groundwater mixing or dispersion.

LES of film cooling for different jet fluids

Biophysical interactions between silver nanoparticle-albumin interface and curcumin

Active targeted drug delivery methods facilitate effective uptake of functionalized nanoparticles through receptor-mediated *** recent years,albumin-nanoparticle interaction has been critically examined so that this functionalized nanoparticle can be efficiently loaded with *** present investigation aims at understanding the adsorption of Bovine Serum Albumin(BSA)on Silver Nano-particle(SNp)surface,preparation of soft conjugates(SC)and hard conjugates(HC)of BSA-functionalized SNp(SNp-BSA),and their interaction with curcumin(CUR).HC contains tightly bound BSA whereas SC involves tightly and loosely bound *** in the hydrodynamic radii of conjugates was observed upon SNp incubation with increased concentration of *** different SNp-BSA conjugate ratios were selected to study their interaction with *** spectroscopy showed a strong association between CUR and SNp:BSA ***,binding varied with a change in the conjugate *** Dichroism(CD)/Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy revealed the alterations in the secondary structure of BSA upon CUR binding to the *** potential data indicated stable conjugate *** in SNp:BSA conjugate was found to have a higher half-life as compared to the *** believe that this is the first biophysical characterization report of conjugates that can be effectively extrapolated for targeted drug delivery.

A Criterion for the Change from Fast to Slow Regime of Cementite Dissolution in Fe-C-mn Steels

The present study clarifies the role of mn in cementite on the driving force of cementite dissolution and the growth of austenite. From an experimental study, the effects of manganese composition and temperature on the cementite dissolution were shown. From a theoretical analysis based on thermodynamic and kinetics considerations, a criterion for the change from fast to slow regime of cementite dissolution was proposed. This criterion is in good agreement with the experimental results. It can be easily calculated and can define the composition and temperature ranges where the cernentite dissolution is slow or fast.

A cavitation aggressiveness index within the Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes methodology for cavitating flows

The paper proposes a methodology within the Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes（RANS） solvers for cavitating flows capable of predicting the flow regions of bubble collapse and the potential aggressiveness to material damage. An aggressiveness index is introduced, called cavitation aggressiveness index（CAI） based on the total derivative of pressure which identifies surface areas exposed to bubble collapses, the index is tested in two known cases documented in the open literature and seems to identify regions of potential cavitation damage.

Strategies to enhance monoclonal antibody uptake and distribution in solid tumors

Despite the significant resources dedicated to the development of monoclonal antibody(m Ab)therapies for solid tumors,the clinical success,thus far,has been *** efficacy of m Ab in solid tumors likely relates to unique aspects of tumor *** tumors have an aberrant vasculature and a dense extracellular matrix that slow both the convective and diffusive transport of m Abs into and within *** m Abs that are directed against cellular antigens,high antigen expression and rapid antigen turnover can result in perivascular cells binding to and eliminating a significant amount of extravasated m Ab,limiting m Ab distribution to portions of the tumor that are distant from functional *** preclinical investigations have reported strategies to improve m Ab uptake and distribution;however,to our knowledge,none have translated into the ***,we provide an overview of several barriers in solid tumors that limit m Ab uptake and distribution and discuss approaches that have been utilized to overcome these barriers in preclinical studies.
