Role of baicalin as a potential therapeutic agent in hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal disorders:A review

Baicalin is a natural bioactive compound derived from Scutellaria baicalensis,which is extensively used in traditional Chinese medicine.A literature survey demonstrated the broad spectrum of health benefits of baicalin such as antioxidant,anticancer,anti-inflammatory,antimicrobial,cardio-protective,hepatoprotective,renal protective,and neuroprotective *** is hydrolyzed to its metabolite baicalein by the action of gut microbiota,which is further reconverted to baicalin via phase 2 metabolism in the *** studies have suggested that baicalin exhibits therapeutic potential against several types of hepatic disorders including hepatic fibrosis,xenobiotic-induced liver injury,fatty liver disease,viral hepatitis,cholestasis,ulcerative colitis,hepatocellular and colorectal *** in vitro and in vivo examinations,it has been observed that baicalin showed a protective role against liver and gut-associated abnormalities by modifying several signaling pathways such as nuclear factor-kappa B,transforming growth factor beta 1/SMAD3,sirtuin 1,p38/mitogen-activated protein kinase/Janus kinase,and calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinaseβ/adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase/acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase ***,baicalin also regulates the expression of fibrotic genes such as smooth muscle actin,connective tissue growth factor,β-catenin,and inflammatory cytokines such as interferon gamma,interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-alpha,and IL-1β,and attenuates the production of apoptotic proteins such as caspase-3,caspase-9 and B-cell lymphoma ***,due to its low solubility and poor bioavailability,widespread therapeutic applications of baicalin still remain a *** review summarized the hepatic and gastrointestinal protective attributes of baicalin with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms that regulate the interaction of baicalin with the gut microbiota.

This work presents a comparative study of n-SnS and p-SnS active layers for increased solar cell efficiency. Tin sulphide thin films of various thicknesses having p-type and n-type conductivity were fabricated by thermal evaporation. Both type of films had the same（113） orientation of the crystal planes with a constant tensile strain of ~ 0.003 and ~ 0.011, respectively. The persistent photocurrent was observed in all n-SnS and p-SnS samples with the current＇s time decay constant decreasing with increasing film thickness. Hole mobility of thicker p-SnS films was found to be greater than the electron mobility in n-SnS samples, with mobility（both hole and electron） showing an increasing trend with film thickness. The optimum absorber layer thickness for both p-and n-SnS layers should have a high value of diffusion length for a given absorption coefficient and band-gap.

Multi-principal element alloys(MpEAs),inclusive of high entropy alloys(HEAs),continue to attract significant research attention owing to their potentially desirable *** MpEAs remain under extensive research,traditional(***)alloy production and testing are both costly and timeconsuming,partly due to the inefficiency of the early discovery process which involves experiments on a large number of alloy *** is intuitive to apply machine learning in the discovery of this novel class of materials,of which only a small number of potential alloys have been probed to *** this work,a proof-of-concept is proposed,combining generative adversarial networks(GANs)with discriminative neural networks(NNs),to accelerate the exploration of novel *** applying the GAN model herein,it was possible to directly generate novel compositions for MpEAs,and to predict their *** verify the predictability of the model,alloys designed by the model are presented and a candidate produced-as *** suggests that the model herein offers an approach that can significantly enhance the capacity and efficiency of development of novel MpEAs.

In this study,polyvinyl alcohol(pVA)–ionic liquid(IL) membranes were prepared for the separation of isopropyl alcohol(IpA)–water azeotropic mixtures by ***-IL composite membranes were prepared by simple solvent evaporation method using four ILs,viz.,1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride(BMIMCl),1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride(HMIMCl),1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetra fluoroborate(HMIMBF4) and 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride(OMIMCl).Three ILs were used to study the effect of alkyl chain on the pervaporation *** study had focused on the effect feed water concentration from 10%–40%and effect of feed temperature from 50–80°*** properties of all the membranes were studied using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and contact angle *** Arrhenius activation energies for permeation were estimated to be in the range 4–12 kJ·mol-1 from the temperature dependent permeation values.

The paper presents the effect of a rigid boundary on the propagation of torsional surface waves in a porous elastic layer over a porous elastic half-space using the mechanics of the medium derived by Cowin and Nunziato （Cowin, S. C. and Nunziato, J. W. Linear elastic materials with voids. Journal of Elasticity, 13（2）, 125-147 （1983））. The velocity equation is derived, and the results are discussed. It is observed that there may be two torsional surface wave fronts in the medium whereas three wave fronts of torsional surface waves in the absence of the rigid boundary plane given by Dey et al. （Dey, S., gupta, S., gupta, A. k., kar, S. k., and De, p. k. propagation of torsional surface waves in an elastic layer with void pores over an elastic half-space with void pores. Tamkang Journal of Science and Engineering, 6（4）, 241-249 （2003））. The results also reveal that in the porous layer, the Love wave is also available along with the torsional surface waves. It is remarkable that the phase speed of the Love wave in a porous layer with a rigid surface is different from that in a porous layer with a free surface. The torsional waves are observed to be dispersive in nature, and the velocity decreases as the oscillation frequency increases.

Two large explosion trials (5 000 kg TNT and 500 kg ANFO) were conducted in Woomera, Australia in April/May 2006. Advance protective Technologies for Engineering Structures (ApTES) group tested 2 large single-storey concrete modules with individual components such as doors, windows and tiled panels. A description of the trial and details of various modules tested in these trials are presented in the paper. Numerical modelling and simulations are performed using computer programs, CONWEp, AIR3D and AUTODYN. A comparison of the pressure time histories obtained using these codes is made along with the concluding remarks.

This study aims to delineate and analyze the configuration of social networks of farmers with respect to the acquisition of information on vital livestock *** stage sampling was carried out by interviewing 320 technology-adopter farmers from four districts of kerala State in *** mapping the network,social network analysis(SNA)was used,which revealed the important sources as well as patterns of information access by *** established the predominance of a formal communication source(veterinary doctor)in the study locales followed by small-sized peer groups of livestock farmers for crucial information support on technology *** trend is observed irrespective of their gender in various study *** the study thus,underscored the role of homogenous peer groups of farmers in facilitating meaningful interactions as well as information sharing on the *** the low level of adoption of most livestock technologies along with the weak livestock extension machinery in the country,these findings could be used by extension agencies to strategize future technological interventions.

We derive the basic canonical brackets amongst the creation and annihilation operators for a two(1 + 1)-dimensional(2D) gauge field theoretic model of an interacting Hodge theory where a U(1) gauge field(Aμ) is coupled with the fermionic Dirac fields(ψ andˉψ). In this derivation, we exploit the spin-statistics theorem, normal ordering and the strength of the underlying six infinitesimal continuous symmetries(and the concept of their generators) that are present in the theory. We do not use the definition of the canonical conjugate momenta(corresponding to the basic fields of the theory) anywhere in our whole discussion. Thus, we conjecture that our present approach provides an alternative to the canonical method of quantization for a class of gauge field theories that are physical examples of Hodge theory where the continuous symmetries(and corresponding generators) provide the physical realizations of the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry at the algebraic level.

Exploring lanthanide doped materials and their high-pressure optical properties is important from the perspective of designing pressure sensors, piezoelectric materials, scintillators, and optoelectronic devices, just to mention a few. Understanding the high-pressure optical properties of polymeric fibrous mats provides significant advantages in terms of flexibility, tunability, facile processability, and malleability. In this work, we have developed flexible polyvinylidene difluoride(pVDF) fibrous mats doped with an Eu^(3+) source of Eu(NO_(3))_(3)·5H_(2)O(EN-pF) or Eu_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)(ES-pF) by a Forcespinning■ method. Microstructural analysis of these two systems indicates that Eu(NO_(3))_(3)·5H_(2)O and Eu_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) are homogeneously distributed and dispersed into the pVDF matrix. Fiber formation promotes a β-phase pVDF. Eu^(3+) doping increases the β-phase. Its fraction is larger for the ES-pF mats. To understand their high-pressure optical properties, their photoluminescence spectra have been taken at various pressures up to 58 Gpa in a diamond anvil cell. High-pressure luminescence illustrates a clear change in asymmetry ratio, peak intensity, peak breadth, color coordinate, and color temperature of Eu^(3+) ions from both EN-pF and ES-pF with a different extent of changes. Specifically, Eu^(3+) ions in the ES-pF mats switch from asymmetric to symmetric environment as pressure increases. Those in the EN-pF mats present symmetric environment for all tested pressures. Both of the Eu^(3+) doped pVDF systems present irreversible changes. Therefore,the EN-pF fibrous mats present an opportunity to make pressure induced red-orange-yellow tunable phosphors for multifunctional applications.
