The present study achieves the biochemistry partial characterization of the chitinolytic extract produced by an endophytic Streptomyces sp. strain （A8）. This extract was also tested against Anthonomus grandis, the cotton boll weevil aiming its control. The chitinase crude extract from the A8 strain was cultured for five days in a minimum liquid media supplemented with chitin. The extract was partially characterized by standard methods. The chitinolytic extract had an optimum temperature of 66 ＂C and an optimum pH between 4 to 9 （around 80% of relative activity）. We also characterized the temperature and pH stability and measured the effects of enzyme inhibitors. The filtered chitinolytic extract was added to an artificial boll weevil diet. Boll weevil development from the egg stage to the adult stage was prolonged, and the percentage of adults that emerged was approximately 66% less than on control diet. This study showed that *** development of A. grandis was inhibited by the presence of characterized chitinolytic extract in artificial diet. This work provides an experimental basis for using the chitinase from an endophytic bacterium Streptomyces sp. as a biocontrol alternativeto controlling the plant pest A. grandis.

The intake of heavy metals through food consumption is a food safety problem that severely impacts the health of consumers, so information about food intake and heavy metal concentrations in food products is required to estimate the potential risk to the health of the population. The main purpose of this study was to estimate the potential risks to human health from exposure to Cd, Cu, Ni, pb and Zn through the intake of Malus domestica Golden Delicious consumed in the Mexican southeast, considering the age group and gender. The concentration of each of the metals was quantified by spectrometry of atomic absorption (AAE) and the daily intake of metals (DIM) and health risk indices through the consumption of apple: health risk index (HRI), total health risk index (THRI), target hazard coefficient (THQ) and the probability of carcinogenic risk (CR) were estimated. The concentrations of the metals analyzed in the apple samples showed the following decreasing order: Zn ≥ Ni ≥ Cu ≥ pb ≥ Cd. The DIM values showed the following decreasing order: child > young adult > adoescent > elders. The health risk assessments (HRI, THRI, THQ and CR) obtained from the samples of Golden Delicious apples are located within the acceptable and/or tolerable limits, however, the increase in the intake of heavy metals through consumption of apples from establishments in the study area or the consumption of various foods contaminated with heavy metals may increase the health risk potential of consumers. For this reason, it is recommended to carry out studies on the concentration of heavy metals in food products, mainly those of greater popular consumption, to guarantee food security of the population.

In this work we interpret the data showing unusually strong velocity dispersion of p-waves (up to 30%) and attenuation in a relatively narrow frequency range. The cross-hole and VSp data were measured in a reservoir, which is in the porous zone of the Silurian Kankakee Limestone Formation formed by vertical fractures within a porous matrix saturated by oil, and gas patches. Such a medium exhibits significant attenuation due to wave-induced fluid flow across the interfaces between different types of inclusions (fractures, fluid patches) and background. Other models of intrinsic attenuation (in particular squirt flow models) cannot explain the amount of observed dispersion when using realistic rock properties. In order to interpret data in a satisfactory way we develop a superposition model for fractured porous rocks accounting also for the patchy saturation effect.

AIM： To compare the cleansing quality of polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution and sodium phosphate with different schedules of administration, and to evaluate whether the timing of the administration of bowel preparation affects the detection of polyps. METHODS： One hundred and seventy-seven consecutive outpatients scheduled for colonoscopy were randomized in one of four groups to receive polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution or oral sodium phosphate with two different timing schedules. Quality of cleansing, polyp detection, and tolerance were evaluated. RESULTS： patients receiving polyethylene glycol or sodium phosphate on the same day as the colonoscopy, obtained good to excellent global cleansing scores more frequently than patients who received polyethylene glycol or sodium phosphate on the day prior to the procedure （p 〈 0.001）. Flat lesions, but not fiat adenomas, were more frequent in patients prepared on the same day （p = 0.02）. CONCLUSION： The quality of colonic cleansing and the detection of fiat lesions are significantly improved when the preparation is taken on the day of the colonoscopy.

Efficacy and safety of XEN 45 gel stent alone or in combination with phacoemulsification in advanced open angle glaucoma patients: 1-year retrospective study

AIM:To assess the effectiveness of the XEN 45 gel stent,either alone or combined with cataract surgery,in advanced stage open angle glaucoma(OAG)***:Retrospective and single-center study conducted on consecutive OAG patients who underwent a XEN 45 gel stent implantation surgery,between July 2017 and September *** primary efficacy end-point was the mean intraocular pressure(IOp)reduction at the end of the follow-up *** was defined as an IOp reduction of at least 20%and an IOp value≤18 mm Hg without(complete)or with(qualified)hypotensive ***:Seventy-four patients(80 eyes)were included in the *** the overall study sample,XEN implant significantly reduced IOp from 21.0(19.8 to 22.1)mm Hg at baseline to 9.3(8.2 to 10.4),10.7(9.6 to 11.9),13.4(12.2 to 14.7),14.5(13.6 to 15.4),14.7(13.8 to 15.6),and 14.7(13.9 to 15.4)mm Hg at 1 d,1 wk,1,3,6,and 12 mo of follow-up,respectively(ppopulation,at the end of the study the mean IOp reduction was 27.4%(23.3%to 31.5%).Adjusted IOp reduction was similar in XEN and XEN+phacoemulsification groups[30.0(23.4 to 36.4)mm Hg vs 24.8(18.4 to 31.2)mm Hg,respectively,p=0.2939].At the last follow-up visit,52(65.0%)eyes were considered success,29(36.3%)eyes as complete success and 23(28.7%)as qualified *** number of hypotensive medications was significantly reduced from 2.8(2.7 to 3.0)at baseline to 1.1(0.8 to 1.3),ppHACO,mean hazard ratio 0.56,95%CI 0.26 to 1.23;p=*** was performed in 7(8.8%)eyes at months 1(n=3);3(n=2);4(n=1)and 11(n=1).Eleven(13.8%)eyes presented adverse ***:XEN implant,either alone or in combination with phacoemulsification,significantly reduced the IOp and the number of hypotensive medications in patients with OAG in advanced stage.

Demand response is a basic tool used to develop modern power systems and electricity markets. Residential and commercial segments account for 40%–50% of the overall electricity demand. These segments need to overcome major obstacles before they can be included in a demand response portfolio. The objective of this paper is to tackle some of the technical barriers and explain how the potential of enabling technology(smart meters) can be harnessed, to evaluate the potential of customers for demand response(end-uses and their behaviors) and,moreover, to validate customers’ effective response to market prices or system events by means of non-intrusive methods. A tool based on the Hilbert transform is improved herein to identify and characterize the most suitable loads for the aforesaid purpose, whereby important characteristics such as cycling frequency, power level and pulse width are identified. The proposed methodology allows the filtering of aggregated load according to the amplitudes of elemental loads, independently of the frequency of their behaviors that could be altered by internal or external inputs such as weather or demand response. In this way, the assessment and verification of customer response can be improved by solving the problem of load aggregation with the help of integral transforms.
