The Agatsuma et al’s study shows that despite the evidence of the benefits of an early colorectal cancer(CRC)diagnosis,through screening in asymptomatic subjects,up to 50%of candidates reject this option and many of those affected are diagnosed later,in advanced *** efficacy of screening programs has been well-established for several years,which reduces the risk of CRC morbidity and mortality,without taking into account the test used for screening,or other ***,a significant proportion of patients remain unscreened,so understanding the factors involved,as well as the barriers of the population to adherence is the first step to possibly modify the participation *** barriers could include a full range of social and political aspects,especially the type of financial provision of each health *** japan,health services are universal,and this advantageous situation makes it easier for citizens to access to these services,contributing to the detection of various diseases,including ***,the symptomatic CRC group had a lower early-stage diagnosis rate than the patients detected during follow-up for other comorbidities,and symptomatic and cancer screening groups showed similar early-stage diagnosis.

Calibration of the DEM sliding friction and rolling friction parameters of a cohesionless bulk material

Serine and threonine of many nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins are post-translationally modified with O-linked N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc). This modification is made by O-linked Nacetylglucosamine transferases (OGTs). Genetic and biochemical data have demonstrated the existence of two OGTs of Arabidopsis thaliana, SECRET AGENT (SEC) and SpINDLY (SpY), with at least partly overlapping functions, but there is little information on their target proteins. The N-terminus of the capsid protein (Cp) of plum pox virus (ppV) isolated from Nicotiana clevelandii is O-GlcNAc modified. We show here that O-GlcNAc modification of ppV Cp also takes place in other plant hosts, N. benthamiana and Arabidopsis. ppV was able to infect the Arabidopsis OGT mutants sec-1, sec-2 and spy-3 but, at early times of the infection, both rate of virus spread and accumulation were reduced in sec-1 and sec-2 relative to spy-3 and wild-type plants. By MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, we determined that a 39 residue tryptic peptide from the N-terminus of Cp of ppV purified from the spy-3 mutant, but not sec-1 or sec-2, was OGlcNAc modified, suggesting that SEC but not SpY modifies the capsid. While our results indicate that O-GlcNAc modification of ppV Cp by SEC is not essential for infection, they show that the modification has a role(s) in the process.

The discrete element method(DEM)has become a valuable tool for understanding the mechanical behaviour of granular assemblies,however,the accuracy of the DEM simulations depends on several interaction parameters such as the sliding friction and rolling friction ***,these parameters are estimated using bulk calibration approach(BCA)where the draw down test has been suggested as an effective way to approach these *** test provides up to four bulk criteria,the angle of repose,shear angle,mass flow rate and the mass loss which are used to narrow down the possible ***,there is still more research needed around it to fully understand how this methodology *** experimental and numerical study was carried out using the draw down test to assess the influence of different mass flow rates and particle shapes on DEM parameters for a cohesionless bulk *** is concluded that use of multi-sphere particles and three aperture sizes in the draw down test to calibrate the sliding and rolling friction parameters of a cohesionless bulk material can converge to a small feasible region in which a single combination of the friction coefficients can be *** calibrated sliding and rolling friction coefficients were validated using multi-sphere particles,where the maximum deviation was 5.9%from the experimental values.

In recent years,graphene field-effect-transistors(GFETs)have demonstrated an outstanding potential for terahertz(THz)photodetection due to their fast response and *** features are essential to enable emerging THz applications,including 6G wireless communications,quantum information,bioimaging and ***,the overall performance of these photodetectors may be utterly compromised by the impact of internal resistances presented in the device,so-called access or parasitic *** this work,we provide a detailed study of the influence of internal device resistances in the photoresponse of high-mobility dual-gate GFET *** dual-gate architectures allow us to fine tune(decrease)the internal resistance of the device by an order of magnitude and consequently demonstrate an improved responsivity and noise-equivalent-power values of the photodetector,*** results can be well understood by a series resistance model,as shown by the excellent agreement found between the experimental data and theoretical *** findings are therefore relevant to understand and improve the overall performance of existing high-mobility graphene photodetectors.

Constructed wetlands(CwW)are well known nature-based systems for water *** study evaluated the efficiency and effectiveness of seven domestic wastewater treatment systems based on horizontal flow CWs in jarabacoa,the Dominican *** results showed that the CWs were efficient in reducing the degree of contamination of wastewater to levels below the Dominican wastewater discharge standards for parameters such as the 5-day biochemical oxygen demand(BOD5)and chemical oxygen demand,but not for the removal of phosphorus and fecal *** addition,a horizontal flow subsurface wetland in the peri-urban area El Dorado was evaluated in terms of the performance of wastewater treatment in tropical climatic *** concentrations of heavy metals,such as zinc,copper,chromium,and iron,were found to decrease in the effluent of the wetland,and the concentrations for nickel and manganese tended to *** levels of heavy metals in the effluent were lower than the limit values of the Dominican wastewater discharge *** construction cost of these facilities was around 200 USD per population equivalent,similar to the cost in other countries in the same *** study suggested some solutions to the improved performance of CWs:selection of a microbial flora that guarantees the reduction of nitrates and nitrites to molecular nitrogen,use of endemic plants that bioaccumulate heavy metals,combination of constructed wetlands with filtration on activated carbon,and inclusion of water purification processes that allow to evaluate the reuse of treated water.

Digital fabrication techniques,in recent decades,have provided the basis of a sustainable revolution in the construction ***,selecting the digital fabrication method in terms of manufacturability and functionality requirements is a complex *** paper presents alternatives and criteria for selection of digital fabrication techniques by adopting the multi-criteria decision-making *** alternatives considered in the study are concrete three-dimensional(3D)printing,shotcrete,smart dynamic casting,material intrusion,mesh molding,injection concrete 3D printing,and thin forming *** criteria include formwork utilization,reinforcement incorporation,geometrical complexity,material enhancement,assembly complexity,surface finish,and build *** demonstrates different multi-criteria decision-making techniques,with both subjective and objective weighting *** given ranking is based on the current condition of digital fabrication in the construction *** study reveals that in the selection of digital fabrication techniques,the criteria including reinforcement incorporation,build area,and geometrical complexity play a pivotal role,collectively accounting for nearly 70% of the overall *** the evaluated techniques,concrete 3D printing emerged as the best performer,however the shotcrete and mesh molding techniques in the second and third positions.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have gained great attention as promising photocatalysts for hydrogen ***,due to their poor stability in water,the use of aqueous hydrohalic acid solutions is specifically required for an efficient hydrogen ***,three novel photoactive lead-free hybrid perovskites based on bismuth and triazolium cations(denoted as IEF-15,IEF-16,and IEF-17(IEF stands for IMDEA energy frameworks))were synthesized and fully characterized(structural,compositional,optical,etc.).Further,these solids were proposed as photocatalysts for the challenging gas phase overall water splitting(OWS)***,IEF-16 thin films exhibited a remarkable photocatalytic activity in both H_(2) and O_(2) evolution,as a consequence of its appropriate bandgap and energy-band alignment,achieving hydrogen evolution rates ofμmol·g_(H_(2))^(-)1846 and 360 after 24 h under ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)irradiation or simulated solar irradiation,*** study additionally highlights the remarkable structural and photochemical stability of IEF-16 under different operational conditions(*** volume,irradiation and temperature),paving the way for green hydrogen production from OWS using perovskite-based photocatalysts.

It is an appealing notion that a protein molecule could act as a nanomagnet.A genetically encodable biomolecule with a permanent magnetic moment at room temperature could have a range of applications:a magnetogenetic actuator,a magnetic tag for purifying and immobilizing enzymes,a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging,and a basis for a biomimetic magnetic sensing device,to name just a few.A magnetic protein could perhaps also function as the sensor in the magnetic compass that enables small songbirds to navigate the huge distances between their breeding and wintering *** though such possibilities may be,how realistic are they?
