Objectives: The study was conducted retro-spectively to evaluate the services offered at the Premarital Counseling Center (PCC) and the characteristics of the individuals who obtained counseling at the center in Kayseri. Methods: A retrospective review is based on data from the Premarital Counseling Center (PCC) in Kayseri. Seven hundred fifty four (754) individuals who attended the Center were included in the study sample. Data were collected from the Center’s records. Records of all people were reviewed by the researchers. Differences in proportions were analyzed by Chi square test and t test. Results: The age-average of the individuals who consulted the PCC was 26.2 ± 8.3, 91.1% of the individuals had Rh (+), 99.5% of them had VDRL (-), 3.9% had Hbs Ag (+), 0.8% had HCV (+) while none of the individuals was HIV (+) affected. It’s shown that 90.6% of the individuals who were between the ages of 15 - 19 were women, 9.4% of them were men. The difference between the age and the gender of the individuals who came to the center was considered significant. It was determined that the individuals who received counseling services at the PCC were not given any kind of educational and consulting services before.

Globally,temperature and precipitation patterns are predicted to change markedly as a result of climate ***,the regions with a cold or hot semi-arid climate and the Mediterranean climate zone are expected to be strongly affected.1,2 A 25%–30%decrease in precipitation and increased evaporation are expected by the end of the 21st century in the Mediterranean region,to be accompanied by an even stronger reduction in runoff of up to 30%–40%,1,2 and this will lead to increasing salinization of lakes in these areas.

Prognostic Values of PET/CT Findings and Tumor/Patient Characteristics with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Background/Aim: Although numerous prognostic factors have been described for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), there is still a requirement for better and non-invasive markers. FDG-PET is a non invasive diagnostic tool that is being used increasingly in the diagnosis of lung cancer. This study evaluates the prognostic values of PET/CT defined SUV measurements and other patient/tumor characteristics in newly diagnosed stage IIIB and IV NSCLC. Method: This ret- rospective study included 111 patients admitted between 2005 and 2006 with stage IIIB and IV NSCLC, whose diag- noses were verified with biopsy and staging performed with PET/CT. The prognostic values of standart uptake values (SUV) of the primary lesion on PET/CT, and other patient/tumor characteristics were analyzed using survival analysis. Results: SUV was found to be unrelated with survival. Only the presence of distant metastasis, type of metastasis (bone, brain, or the contralateral lung) and the type of radiotherapy used (curative or palliative) were found to be related to survival. SUV values in epidermoid carcinoma were found to be significantly higher compared to adenocarcinoma (16.15 ± 7.18 and 12.32 ± 5.52, respectively, p = 0.021).Conclusion: Our findings do not support that SUV of the pri- mary lesion in inoperable NSCLC has a prognostic value with respect to survival. This condition may be explained by the inclusion of significantly advanced NSCLC patients who are known to have a low survival and a high mortality, and also the relatively small sampling size.

AIM To investigate different etiologies and management of the rhabdomyolysis in *** Eight pediatric rhabdomyolysis cases who applied to the Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Nephrology with different etiologies between January 2004 and January 2012 were evaluated in terms of age, gender, admission symptoms, physical examination findings, factors provoking rhabdomyolysis, number of rhabdomyolysis attacks, laboratory results, family history and the final diagnosis received after the treatment. RESULTS Average diagnosis ages of eight cases were 129(24-192) ± 75.5 mo and five of them were girls. All of them had applied with the complaint of muscle pain, calf pain, and dark color urination. Infection(pneumonia) and excessive physical activity were the most important provocative factors and excessive licorice consumption was observed in one case. In 5 cases, acute kidney injury was determined and two cases needed hemodialysis. As a result of the further examinations; the cases had received diagnoses of rhabdomyolysis associated with mycoplasma pneumoniae, sepsis associated rhabdomyolysis, licorice-induced hypokalemic rhabdomyolysis, carnitine palmitoyltransferase Ⅱ deficiency, very long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital muscular dystrophy and idiopathic paroxysmal rhabdomyolysis(Meyer-Betz syndrome).CONCLUSION It is important to distinguish the sporadic and recurrent rhabdomyolysis cases from each other. Recurrent rhabdomyolysis cases should follow up more regardful and attentive.

Background: Alveolar ridge resorption still continues to be a problem in oral surgery. Cause of bone resorption is including tooth extraction, periodontal disease and inflammatory periapical pathologies. Various methods and materials have been suggested to minimize this resorption. Aim: Goal of this case report is to present alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) following horizontally fractured maxillary lateral incisor with allograft in the aesthetic zone. Case presentation: 30-year-old female patient with fractured tooth was treated by grafting and insertion dental implant. Fractured tooth extraction was performed and extraction socket augmentation was performed by allograft and covered with collagen membrane. Augmented area was treated with bone-level implant. Definitive prosthesis single-tooth porcelain-fused-to-zirconia restorations were fabricated. Conclusions: Before implant insertion, extraction and grafting socket procedure is appropriate treatment for of fractured teeth with granulation tissue.

No study has been conducted to determine the relationship between RTC （road traffic crashes） and depression, anxiety and stress scale （DASS-21）, tiredness, fatigues and sleeping. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of aggressive driver behaviour, fatigue and sleeping on RTC comparison between commercial taxi and minibus/van/pick-up cars drivers. A cross-sectional study included a representative sample of 2,300 drivers of which 1,786 drivers （77.6%） agreed to participate. The Manchester DBQ （Driver Behaviour Questionnaire） was used to measure the aberrant driving behaviours leading to accidents. The study is based on the measurement using the depression anxiety stress scales （DASS-21）. Participants completed a DASS-21 questionnaire with items related to socio-demographic information, BMI （body mass index）, driving experience, fatigue, sleeping, adherence to traffic laws （including speed limits and wearing seat belt）, and drivers＇ driving records. Univariate and multivariate statistical analyses were performed. In a representative sampling, the age distribution of the participants ranged from 25 to 65 years with the mean age 38.3±10.2 and the mean annual mileage （km） per month was 14,587±1,741 （p 〈 0.001）. There was a significant difference found between both group minibus/van/pick-up and commercial taxi drivers regarding of their age group （p 〈 0.001）, education （p = 0.003）, history of accident （p = 0.003）, seat belt use （p = 0.022） time of accident （p = 0.005）; crossing red light （p 〈 0.001）, excessive speed limits （p = 0.002）, BMI group （p = 0.022）, physical activity （p = 0.003）, annual mileage in km （p 〈 0.001）, number of working days （p = 0.010） and hours （p = 0.030）; number of sleeping hours （p = 0.025）, CD music listening （p = 0.010）, mobile phone use （p = 0.001）, soft drinking （p = 0.002） and cigarette smoking habit （p 〈 0.001）. Achilles tendon ruptures and malleol fractures are commonly seen injuries in orthopaedic and traumatology practice, but what is rare is their concomitant. In this report, we aimed to present a rare case of a patient who has isolated medial malleolar fracture and achilles tendon rupture in ipsilateral ankle after an ankle sprain due to a fall from stairs and mechanism of injury.

目的:急性和慢性视神经炎患者视觉通路的弥散张量成像评估以及视力障碍、视网膜神经纤维层厚度与扩散指数变化的相关性研究。方法:在26例患者和13例健康对照组中进行扩散张量成像术。患者中17眼患有急性视神经炎,20眼患有慢性视神经炎和15例未受感染眼。所有受试者中,采用神经眼科检查、光学相干断层扫描、视觉诱发电位、眶颅MRI等方法对视觉传入系统进行评估。结果:急性和慢性视神经炎患者视神经中各向异性低于对照组(P=0.28)。急性和慢性视神经炎患者视神经平均扩散率高于患者未受感染眼及对照组(P<0.01)。患者与对照组视网膜神经纤维层厚度、P100振幅、潜伏期及视力差异均有统计学意义(均P<0.01)。相较于对照组,患者组中视交叉平均扩散率较高(P=0.011)。各组间视束各向异性和平均扩散率测量差异均有统计学意义(分别为P=0.032和P=0.013)。在相关性分析中,急性视神经炎P100潜伏期与视神经各向异性相关(r=-0.439,P=0.021)。平均扩散率与视网膜神经纤维层厚度、视力和P100潜伏期相关(r=-0.464,-0.334,-0.389;P<0.05)。各向异性与平均扩散率和视力有关,差异均有统计学意义(r=-0.393,0.364;P<0.05),而慢性视神经炎的平均扩散系数与P100振幅和RNLF厚度相关(r=-0.412,-0.374;P<0.05)。视力下降与平均扩散率增加和各向异性下降有关(P<0.05)。结论:弥散张量成像能够显示眼眶MRI看似正常的组织中的异常。研究结果表明,弥散张量成像的测量与视觉缺陷和组织损伤相关。
