A colchicine-induced autotetraploid grapevine exhibiting potentially valuable agronomic traits for grape production and breeding,including self-pruning,was *** study investigated DNA methylation variation and its role in gene expression during self-pruning in the autotetraploid *** used RNA-Seq to estimate differentially expressed genes between diploid and autotetraploid grapevine shoot *** genes showing increases in the autotetraploid were mainly related to stress response pathways,whereas those showing decreases in the autotetraploid were related to biological metabolism and ***-genome bisulfite sequencing was performed to produce single-base methylomes for the diploid and autotetraploid *** between the methylomes revealed that they were conserved in CG and CHG *** the autotetraploid grapevine,hypodifferentially methylated regions(DMRs)and hyper-DMRs in the gene body increased or decreased gene expression,*** results indicated that a hypo-DMR in the ACO1 gene body increased its expression and might promote *** study reports that hypo-DMRs in the gene body increase gene expression in plants and reveals the mechanism underlying the changes in the modifications affecting gene expression during genome ***,our results provide valuable information for understanding the relationships between DNA methylation,gene expression,and autotetraploid breeding in grape.

The Westerlies is important in linking the Northem high latitude, North Atlantic and East Asian monsoon. The location and intensity of the Westerly jet can not only control the climate of central Asia （including northwest arid China）, but also significantly influence the climate of the East Asian monsoon region. However, it remains unclear of the variability of the Westerlies in Asia on multiple timeseales and their global linkage.

Application of X-ray fluorescence core-scanning(XRF-CS) on both marine and lake sediments has achieved remarkable results. However, its application has not been widely extended to the research on speleothems. In this study, we measure the Sr abundance and the Sr/Ca ratios of three stalagmites(two aragonite stalagmites, one calcite stalagmite) using the state-of-the-art fourth-generation Avaatech high-resolution XRF core scanner. Through comparisons among different scan paths and among different scan resolutions, as well as comparisons with inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer(ICP-OES), Itrax XRF, and Artax XRF results, we confirm that the Avaatech XRF core scanner could precisely, quickly, and nondestructively analyze the high-resolution Sr abundance of speleothems. Furthermore, we combine the stalagmite δ^(18)O records to explore the paleoclimatic significance of the measured stalagmite Sr/Ca.

The present study was aimed to investigate the anti-arthritic activity of alcoholic extract ofClerodendron inerme which was shown to inhibit inflammatory process. Arthritis was induced in rats by injecting rats intradermally with Freund＇s adjuvant 0.01%-0.1% in paraffin oil. They were grouped and received 10 mg/100 gm ***. of alcoholic fraction of C. inerme, 1.5 mg/100 gm ***. hydrocortisone and saline, orally, for 15 days. The arthritic scores, radiological scores, body weights, liver glycogen, serum mucoproteins were monitored for 49 days. Wilcoxan ranking methods and Student＇s t Test were used to determine the significance changes between control and treated groups. Adjuvant-arthritic rats showed a significant decrease in body weight, liver glycogen, increased serum mucoprotein and severity of periostitis and other degenerative changes m the bone. But treatment with the alcoholic fraction （apigenin, scutallarin and pectinolinergenin） of C. inerme exhibited a very good relief from the arthritic conditions by increasing the body weight, increased liver glycogen content and registered little degenerative changes in bones, suggesting long term anti-arthritic activity when compared to the control group. The anti-arthritic activity ofC. inetme alcoholic fraction was remarkable in this study. However, further studies are required to elucidate its full anti-arthritic potential.

Introduction: Positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy is the gold-standard for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) management. While it is known that PAP is efficacious for controlling breathing events during sleep when it is worn at the right pressure for the amount of time prescribed, there is less clear data on how well it improves sleep quality. There are few studies that have examined the effectiveness of PAP therapy on sleep quality. Methods: OSA participants (n = 241) from a larger trial examining a PAP adherence were included. Participants were provided with PAP instruction and followed at 2 months and 4 months. PAP adherence was measured as the number of hours per night at prescribed pressure, an objective measure of treatment adherence. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used as the primary measure of sleep quality. Results: The PSQI was significantly correlated with PAP adherence at both the 2-month and 4-month time points, such that lower sleep quality was associated with lower PAP use. This finding held for the sleep disturbance subscale of the PSQI. Over 55% of those using PAP therapy at the 4-month time point continued to report significantly disturbed sleep. Discussion: This study shows that PAP therapy does not appear to improve sleep quality to a degree that would be expected. Over half of those patients using PAP therapy still experienced disturbed sleep. Whether the disturbed sleep is directly attributable to the PAP device itself or to disturbed sleep secondary to uncontrolled OSA when PAP is not worn is worthy of further investigation.
