Current therapies for Parkinson's disease(PD)are palliative,of which the levodopa/carbidopa therapy remains the primary choice but is unable to modulate the progression of *** to the complication of such a multifactorial disorder and significant limitations of the therapy,numerous genetic approaches have been proved effective in finding out genes and mechanisms implicated in this *** the observation of a higher frequency of PD in Gaucher's disease(GD),a lysosomal storage condition,mutations of glycosylceramidase beta(GBA)encoding glucocerebrosidase(GCase)have been shown to be involved and have been explored in the context of *** mutations are the most common genetic risk factor of *** studies have revealed the relationships between PD and GM gene mutations,facilitating a better understanding of this *** hypotheses delineate that the pathological mutations of GBA minimize the enzymatic activity of GCase,which affects the proliferation and clearance of α-synuclein;this affects the lysosomal homeostasis,exacerbating the endoplasmic reticulum stress or encouraging the mitochondrial *** of the pathological mechanisms underlying the GM-associated parkinsonism(GBA+PD)advances our understanding of *** review based on current literature aims to elucidate various genetic and clinical characteristics correlated with GBA mutations and to identify the numerous pathological processes underlying GBA+*** also delineate the therapeutic strategies to interfere with the mutant GCase function for further improvement of the related asynuclein-GCase ***,the various therapeutic approaches such as gene therapy,chaperone proteins,and histone deacetylase inhibitors for the treatment of GBA+PD are discussed.

Carbon nanotubes decorated α-Al_2O_3 containing cobalt nanoparticles for Fischer-Tropsch reaction

A new hierarchical composite consisted of multi-walled carbon nanotubes （CNTs） layer anchored on macroscopic a-A1203 host matrix was synthesized and used as support for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis （FTS）. The composite constituted by a thin shell of a homogeneous, highly entan-gled and structure-opened carbon nanotubes network and it exhibited a relatively high and fully accessible specific surface area of 76 m2.g-1, compared with that of 5 m2.g-1 of the original a-A1203support. The metal-support interaction between carbon nanotubes surface and cobalt precursor and high effective surface area led to a relatively high dispersion of cobalt nanoparticles. This hierarchically supported cobalt catalyst exhibited a high FTS activity along with an extremely high selectivity towards liquid hydrocarbons compared with the cobalt-based catalyst supported on pristine a-A1203 or on CNTs carriers. This improvement can attribute to the high accessibility of composite surface area com- paring with the macroscopic host structure alone or to the bulk CNTs where the nanoscopic dimension induced a dense packing with low mass transfer which favoured the problem of reactants competitive diffusion towards the cobalt active site. In addition, intrinsic thermal conductivity of decorated CNTs could help the heat dissipating throughout the catalyst body, thus avoiding the formation of local hot spots which appeared in high CO conversion under pure syngas feed in FTS reaction. Cobalt supported on CNTs decorated a-A1203 catalyst also exhibited satisfied high stability during more than 200 h on stream under relatively severe conditions compared with other catalysts reported in the literature. Finally, the macroscopic shape of such composite easily rendered its usage as catalyst support in a fixed-bed configuration without facing problems of transport and pressure drop as encountered with the bulk CNTs.

Moving Towards a New Era in Corporate Governance Research Methods

Corporate governance is a relatively young field. Nonetheless, the research in this domain has been growing at an impressive speed in recent decades. Analysis of corporate governance has become a key factor in our understanding of corporations in recent years, and an indicator of investor confidence in the decisions is taken by the managers and board of directors of the listed companies. This paper evaluates both qualitative and quantitative techniques that are implied in corporate governance field. The methodological techniques are a key element of the research process In this article, the authors developed a content analysis of the published empirical research in order to expose a possible gap between what is currently done versus what needs to be done in terms of the techniques of data analysis used in corporate governance field. The results of this study allow the authors to draw some valuable conclusions regarding the trends in methodological techniques that support the evolution of corporate governance. The findings indicate that, in general, the researchers are inclined to more sophisticated quantitative techniques. However, the use of qualitative techniques remains preponderant among corporate governance scholars.

Magnetic susceptibility,specific heat,and neutron powder diffraction measurements have been performed on polycrystalline Li_(2)Co(WO_4)_(2)*** zero magnetic field,two successive magnetic transitions at T_(N1)~9.4 K and T_(N2)~7.4 K are *** magnetic ordering temperatures gradually decrease as the magnetic field *** diffraction reveals that Li_(2)Co(WO_4)_(2)enters an incommensurate magnetic state with a temperature dependent k between T_(N1)and T_(N2).The magnetic propagation vector locks-in to a commensurate value k=(1/2,1/4,1/4)below T_(N2).The antiferromagnetic structure is refined at 1.7 K with Co2+magnetic moment 2.8(1),μ_B,consistent with our first-principles calculations.

Surgical Video Review of Warm Ischemia Time during Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy and Impact on Positive Surgical Margins and Postoperative Complications

Introduction: A surgical video review is an emerging tool for quality improvement, especially in complex surgeries such as laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN). Assessing and measuring the warm ischemia time (WIT) during LPN by dividing it into the time used for resection (ResT), time used for reconstruction (RecT) and intermediate time (IntT) has not been performed before. This study aimed to analyze the factors that can influence all these surgical times and assess their impact on positive surgical margins (PSM) and complication rates. Methods: We evaluated 36 surgical video recordings from patients who underwent LPN and measured WIT, ResT, RecT and IntT with a stopwatch. Factors such as tumor characteristics and surgeon experience were also recorded. SPSS software was used to identify the predictor factors for all these surgical times and to correlate the ResT with PSM and RecT with the complication rate. Results: We recorded a mean WIT of 887 seconds. The mean ResT, RecT and IntT were 240 (27.2% of WIT), 473 (52.6% of WIT) and 173 s (20.2% of WIT), respectively. We found a moderate correlation between the WIT (p = 0.030), IntT and the R.E.N.A.L. score (p = 0.019). The surgeon with less than 100 LPN had significantly longer WIT, ResT, and RecT values, with means of 977 (p = 0.015), 268 (p = 0.019) and 530 seconds (p = 0.015), respectively. No correlation was found between ResT and PSM (p = 0.418);however, a strong correlation was found between RecT and the probability of developing complications (p = 0.012). Conclusion: The surgeon’s experience influences WIT, ResT, and RecT, but not IntT, which depends on tumor complexity. RecT affects the probability of developing complications. IntT represents a fifth of the WIT and efforts to reduce the WIT should focus on reducing the IntT for complex tumors, by improving surgical planning.

Few-layer graphene (FLG) sheets with sizes exceeding several micrometers have been synthesized by exfoliation of expanded graphite in aqueous solution of ammonia under microwave irradiation, with an overall yield approaching 8 wt.%. Transmission electron microscopy (in bright-field and dark-field modes) together with electron diffraction patterns and atomic force microscopy confirmed that this graphene material consisted mostly of mono-, bi- or few-layer graphene (less than ten layers). The high degree of surface reduction was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron and infrared spectroscopies. In addition, the high stability of the FLG in the liquid medium facilitates the deposition of the graphene material onto several substrates via low-cost solution-phase processing techniques, opening the way to subsequent applications of the material.
