As an extended period of unusually dry weather conditions without sufficient rain, drought poses enormous risk on societies. Characterized by the absence of precipitation for long periods of time, often resulting in water scarcity, droughts are increasingly posing significant environmental challenges. Drought is therefore considered an important element in the management of water resources, especially groundwater resources during drought. This study therefore sought to investigate the rainfall variability and the frequency of drought for the period 1991 to 2020 in Bamako based on monthly rainfall data from Bamako-Senou gauge station. The standardized precipitation index (SPI) for 12-month, 6-month and 3-month timescales and the SPI for annual totals were used to characterized drought in the study area (Bamako). Univariate parametric probability distributions such as Normal, Log-normal, Gumbel type I and Pearson type III (P3) distributions were fitted with drought variables (severity and duration) for future planning and management. Non-parametric test such as mann-Kendall trend test was also used to detect trend in annual rainfall data. The results showed that based on 12-month SPI, Bamako experienced two (02) extreme droughts one in July 2002 (SPI = -2.2165) and another in June 2015 (SPI = -2.0598 QUOTE SPI=-2.0598 ). Drought years represented 46.67% for the overall periods according to the SPI for annual totals. The result further indicated that based on the goodness of fit test, the P3 distribution represents the best fitted distribution to both drought severity and duration over Bamako. Bamako is expected to experience several severe severities with higher and shorter duration in the future. Severities with 1, 2, 6, and 10-month duration had return periods ranged from 2.4 to 3.8 years, while 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, and 100-year return periods had 18.51, 26.08, 33.25, 35.50, 42.38, and 49.14 severities, respectively, and durations associated to these severities were 1

The aim of this study was to clarify the interest of standard radiography in the management of Ollier’s disease. Observation: Enchondromas are benign lesions that may present on imaging with nonspecific features in children, and they are relatively large lesions, with frequent endosteal erosion and rare matrix mineralization. We report a case of predominantly right-sided multifocal enchondromatosis in a 5-year-old girl with no known medical history, diagnosed fortuitously on standard radiography during a trauma assessment and confirmed by histology. No sign of pain was noted after a 6-month follow-up. But the radiographic control noted signs of diffuse osteoarthritic remodeling in the surgical areas and early fusion of the growth cartilages. Conclusion: Ollier’s disease is rare, you have to know how to think about it in the face of fortuitous discoveries, especially at an early age. Enchondromas are benign lesions that may present on imaging with nonspecific features in children. In all cases, standard radiography is essential in the diagnosis and follow-up of Ollier’s disease.

Every woman has the right to receive satisfactory quality prenatal care in reproductive health. Giving a life while remaining alive and without sequelae must be the slogan of any gynecologist - obstetrician and midwife, as well as any health worker. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study dealing with the evaluation of the quality of prenatal consultations at the Kadiolo referral health center (or RHC). Adevis Donabedian’s model for assessing the quality of care and services served as a benchmark. According to Donabedian quality means good technical care, with good interpersonal relationships, and adequate and comfortable premises. This study took place from April 24 to December 04, 2017 and aimed to assess the current level of the quality of prenatal consultations at the Kadiolo referral health center, to study the structures in place including infrastructure and personnel, to specify the procedures and to determine their results. This work has permitted us to classify the RHC of Kadiolo at level III with 85%, which means that the references evaluated were satisfactory, with the level of 75% to 94%. In terms of structure, a pricing system was deemed affordable by the opinion of pregnant women. The analysis of the level of the human dimension revealed that the health center was level III. The pregnant women were satisfied with the reception which was good in 76% of the cases, as well as with the quality of the respect of the privacy in 96% and confidentiality in 95%. Despite the satisfaction of pregnant women, gaps remain to be filled in concerning the quality of the services received at the Kadiolo referral health center so as to reach level IV.

Screen House Assessment of Cowpea [(Vigna unguiculata (L.)] Genotypes for Drought Tolerance Using Selection Indices

Cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.)] is one of the most important arid legumes cultivated for pulse and forage production. Drought is one of the most damageable constraints to crop production impacting negatively food security. The potential of cowpea to address food security is well established. However, not much is known about the base index selection method in breeding cowpea for drought tolerance, which is important for yields. Consequently, the present study has been conducted to: 1) evaluate the yield performance of cowpea genotypes under artificial drought and well-watered condition, 2) ranke genotype performance using selection indices, and 3) assess relationship between agronomic traits and yield. The experiment was the 2 watering conditions laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The experiment was carried out in pots under screen house at the Department of Horticulture at KNUST. The result showed that KPR1-96-73, Simbo, CZ06-4-16, Wilibaly and Agyenkwa were high yielding in well-water condition while Ghana Shoba, Sangaraka, Nketewade, Ghana Shoni and Korobalen were high yielding genotypes in water stress condition. The average yield reduction was 60.6% and 16% for grain and fodder yield respectively. The biplot displays revealed four groups among the genotypes tested which were based on their yielding capacity and drought tolerance. In cluster B high yielding and drought tolerant genotypes were identified, high yielding and drought susceptible have been identified in cluster A, low yielding and drought tolerant in cluster D, and lastly low yielding and drought susceptible in cluster C. Genotypes in cluster B were best due to the fact that it combines high yield and tolerance to drought. They were Ghana Shoni, Nketewade, Sangaraka and Ghana Shoba. Introduction: Infertility is the inability to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse by a couple of childbearing age. It is a real public health problem because of its high prevalence in both developed and developing countries. Female infertility occupies a prominent place in reproductive health in Africa such as in our country mali. The objective of this work was to determine the hysterosalpingography profile of utero-tubal lesions in the etiological research of female infertility in mopti. materials and method: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study covering a period of one year from January 2019 to December 2019 in the radiology department of Sominé Dolo Hospital in mopti. The variables analyzed were patient age and hysterosalpingography results. The hysterosalpingography examination was performed 3 or 4 days after menstruation on a remote-controlled table under fluoroscopic control. Data analysis was done with the aid of SPSS version 22 and Excel 2016 software. Results: During the study period, 9012 patients were seen in the imaging department, including 115 patients, or 1.3% for infertility assessment. The 25 - 29 age group was the most represented with 34 patients or 29.6%. The mean was 30.39 ± 6.96 years with extremes of 17 and 46 years. Tubal abnormalities represented 45 cases or 39.1%. Hydrosalpinx was the most prevalent with 26 cases or 36.6%. Conclusion: Tubal lesions were the most observed, especially hydrosalpinx following. Hysterosalpingography remains the first choice in the radiological assessment of female infertility in our context.

Introduction: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a surgical technique that involves the removal of the gallbladder by laparoscopy. Its practice is timid in sub-Saharan Africa, despite the existence of risk factors such as sickle cell disease. We report our 2-year experience of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the general surgery department of the CHU-mE Luxembourg. materials and method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study from September 2019 to September 2021. The study included 64 patients with vesicular lithiasis who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Data were analyzed on SPSS software (version 25.0). Confidentiality and anonymity of the subjects were respected. Results: The frequency of cholecystectomy was 30.9%. The average age was 38.37 ± 16.94 years. The female sex was 70.3%. Obesity and sickle cell disease were found in 85.9% and 14.1% of patients. On physical examination, hepatic colic was found in 54.7% and the murphy sign was positive in 64.1% of patients. Ultrasound diagnosis of vesicular lithiasis was made in all patients. All patients underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which was retrograde in 64.1% of cases. The average procedure time was 66 minutes. No case of complication was recorded postoperatively. Conclusion: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a technique to be developed and supported.

Experimental Study on Performance and Combustion Analysis of a Diesel Engine Fueled with Diesel and Jatropha Oil Blended with Heptane

This work focuses on blending Jatropha oil with diesel fuel and heptane to improve its physico-chemical characteristics for production of blends and their use as fuel in a diesel engine. The influence of the heptane content was evaluated by comparing the results obtained from the engine (performance and combustion parameters) with those of the diesel fuel and straight Jatropha oil. The results obtained show an improvement in engine performance especially at low loads. Specifically, a reduction in the specific fuel consumption of the engine is obtained when the heptane content in the mixture is around 10% compared to that obtained with pure Jatropha oil. The best results were obtained with the blend containing 70% Jatropha oil, 20% diesel fuel and 10% heptane (J70G20H10). Overall engine efficiency and exhaust gas temperatures are comparable for all fuels tested. Engine combustion parameters are improved with J70G20H10. The results obtained with J70G20H10 are close to those of the engine operating on diesel fuel. The cyclic dispersion is low with coefficients of variation of the indicated mean effective pressure (COVImEP) whose values are less than 10%. The lowest values of the COVImEP are obtained with the blend J70G20H10.

Female genital mutilation (FGm) is still a topical practice in several African regions or countries. They constitute a violation of human rights, in particular because of their harmful consequences for the health of the people who suffer them and are the source of various complications. We report a case of FGm complications in the form of total coalescence of the labia majora with a small hole from which urine flows permanently. The management was a disinfubilation with suturing of the edges and urethral reimplantation and the evolution was favorable with complete healing after two (2) weeks.

Introduction: Retroperitoneal teratoma is a rare congenital tumour, representing only 1% to 10% of primary retroperitoneal tumors in children, far behind ovarian and testicular locations. There is a clear female predominance with a sex ratio of 3.4/1. The purpose of this study is to review the clinical manifestations, the mode of revelation of retroperitoneal teratoma, the diagnostic means and the anatomopathologic aspect of retroperitoneal teratoma, then to show the contribution and the limits of the various imaging examinations: ultrasound, CT and mRI in the diagnosis of retroperitoneal teratoma. Observation: We report the case of a mature retroperitoneal teratoma discovered in a 10-month-old male infant. The diagnosis evoked by ultrasound and abdominal CT was confirmed by histological study of the excised specimen. The postoperative evolution after 3 months was favorable in particular with no signs of recurrence. Conclusion: Retroperitoneal teratoma is a rare congenital tumour. The complete imaging assessment including ultrasound and computed tomography is necessary preoperatively in order to make the diagnosis and to clearly determine the relationship with the various organs. The anatomopathological study confirms the diagnosis of retroperitoneal teratoma. Tumor excision must be radical to avoid recurrence, which readily occurs in a malignant form. Even if the tumor appears benign, postoperative monitoring based on clinical, biological and radiological examination is essential.
