Optimization of b.odynamic Seated Human Models Using Genetic Algorithms

Many b.odynamic models have b.en derived using trial and error curve-fitting technique, such that the error b.tween the computed and measured b.odynamic response functions is minimum. This study developed a b.omechanical model of the human b.dy in a sitting posture without b.ckrest for evaluating the vib.ation transmissib.lity and dynamic response to vertical vib.ation direction. In describ.ng the human b.dy motion, a three b.omechanical models are discussed (two models are 4-DOF and one model 7-DOF). Optimization software b.sed on stochastic techniques search methods, Genetic Algorithms (GAs), is employed to determine the human model parameters imposing some limit constraints on the model parameters. In addition, an ob.ective function is formulated comprising the sum of errors b.tween the computed and actual values (experimental data). The studied functions are the driving-point mechanical impedance, apparent mass and seat- to-head transmissib.lity functions. The optimization process increased the average goodness of fit and the results of studied functions b.came much closer to the target values (Experimental data). From the optimized model, the resonant frequencies of the driver parts computed on the b.sis of b.odynamic response functions are found to b. within close b.unds to that expected for the human b.dy.

Analysis of Wind Speed Data and Wind Energy Potential for Seven Selected Locations in KSA

Al-b.ha region, located in Saudi Arab.a, is one of the main tourism and leisure areas. The authority at Al-b.ha Governorate plans to use clean and renewab.e energy in its tourism facilities. The importance of this study is to assess the possib.lity of b.ilding a wind farm in Al-b.ha and to select the b.st site for this purpose. This paper presents an analysis of long-term wind data for the annual and monthly variab.lity in Al-b.ha region of southwestern Saudi Arab.a. Al-b.ha region has an area of 9921 square kilometers and is divided into seven regions (groups) b.sed on their similar measurements and wind speed values. The analysis used 40 years of annual and monthly wind speed data b.tween 1981 and 2020. The analysis showed that Group III has the highest mean wind speed values in the northeastern part of the Al-b.ha region, ranging from 5.4 m/s to 5.9 m/s at 50 m ab.ve the surface. Group VI (5.1 - 5.6 m/s) east of the Al-b.ha area recorded the second-highest mean wind speed, while group V southwest of the Al-b.ha area recorded lower values. The maximum wind speeds ob.erved in Group III in January, Feb.uary, March, and July were 6 m/s or higher. A frequency analysis ensures that 79% of the year’s wind speeds exceed 4 m/s at 50 m ab.ve the surface of the Group III site. Wind power was considered for 17 wind turb.nes of different sizes. The Soyut Wind 500 machine was found to produce maximum energy of 1420 MWh/year. The highest performance values for the Soyut Wind 500 machine occurred in winter and summer, while the calculated capacity factor values at a hub.height of 50 m were 41% and 32%, respectively. The assessment concluded that generating electricity from wind at G III in the northeast of the Al-b.ha region is a good decision.

The linear seat suspension is considered due to the low cost consideration therefore, the optimal linear seat suspension design method can b. used for this purpose. In this paper, the design of a passive vehicle seat suspension system was handled in the framework of linear optimization. The variance of the dynamic load resulting from the vib.ating vehicle operating at a constant speed was used as the performance measure of a suspension system. Using 4-DOF human b.dy model developed b. Ab.as et al., with linear seat suspension and coupled with half car model. A genetic algorithm is applied to solve the linear optimization prob.em. The optimal design parameters of the seat suspension systems ob.ained are kse = 3 012.5 N/m and cse = 1 210.4 N.s/m, respectively.
