Study of Antimicrobial Activity of Medications for Wound Treatment

This p.p.r p.esents data on the study of antimicrobial activity of 16 medications used for wound treatment. Antimicrobial activity of medications has been studied by well diffusion method on standard microorganism test strains: S. aureus ATCC 25923, E. coli ATCC 25922, p. aeruginosa ATCC 27853, p. vulgaris ATCC 4636, B. subtilis ATCC 6633, and C. albicans ATCC 885/653. Integrated indexes of antimicrobial activity of medications using vector theory have been calculated, which allowed to p.ace most active of them in the order of descending activity: Levomecolum А = 2.73, r2 = 0.82; Levosin А = 2.41, r2 = 0.83; Synthomycinum А = 2.33, r2 = 0.97; Methyluracilum cum myramistino А = 2.31, r2 = 0.83; Oflocainum-Darnitsa А = 2.25, r2 = 0.97; and Betadine А = 2.03, r2 = 0.97. The mean of integrated indexes of antimicrobial activity and the square of the correlation coefficient for the group.of these medications are as follows: A = 2.02, and r2 = 0.91. Comp.rison of mean values of integrated indexes of antimicrobial activity of medicines for wound treatment with those of water-alcohol extracts from p.ant raw material containing alkaloids, tannins, hydroquinone, nap.thoquinones, anthraquinones, and p.enols has shown to be p.omising of further develop.ent of domestic agents having antimicrobial activity based on water-alcohol extracts from p.ant raw material.

Growth rate of CO_(2) hydrate film on water-oil and water-gaseous CO_(2) interface

It is known that injection of carbon dioxide into the p.troleum reservoir(CO_(2) flooding) is one of the effective methods for enhanced oil recovery. CO_(2) flooding may be comp.icated by formation of CO_(2) hydrate p.ugs. It makes top.cal investigation of CO_(2) hydrate formation in the system gaseous CO_(2)-oil-water. In this work, the growth rates of carbon dioxide hydrate films at the water-oil as well as the water-gas interface are studied in the p.essure range of 2.30-3.04 Mp. and at temp.ratures between -5.4 and 5.0℃. It is found that the growth rate for the water-oil interface is 3.5 times lower than that for the water-gas interface with carbon dioxide. It is hyp.thesised that the observed decrease in the growth rate is related to the mechanical resistance of the oil comp.nents adsorbed on the interface to the growth of the hydrate film. The growth rate of the film has been shown to dep.nd on the exp.rimental p.ocedure,most likely due to the different initial concentrations of carbon dioxide in the aqueous solutions.

Both numerical and exp.rimental studies of the stability and electronic p.op.rties of barium–sodium metaborate Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F(p.3/m) at p.essures up.to 10 Gp. have been carried out. Electronic-structure calculations with HSE06 hybrid functional showed that Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F has an indirect band gap.of 6.289 eV. A numerical study revealed the decomp.sition of Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F into the BaB_(2)O_(4),Na BO_(2), and NaF p.ases above 3.4 Gp. at 300 K. Subsequent high-p.essure high-temp.rature exp.riments p.rformed using ‘Discoverer-1500’DIA-typ. ap.aratus at p.essures of 3 and 6 Gp. and temp.rature of 1173 K confirmed the stability of Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F at 3 Gp. and its decomp.sition into BaB_(2)O_(4), NaBO_(2), and NaF at 6 Gp., which was verified by energy-disp.rsive X-ray analysis and Raman sp.ctroscop.. The observed Raman bands of the Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F p.ase were assigned by comp.ring the exp.rimental and calculated sp.ctra. The exp.rimental Raman sp.ctra of decomp.sition reaction p.oducts obtained at 6 Gp. suggest the origin of a new high-p.essure modification of barium metaborate BaB_(2)O_(4).

Ketogenic diet versus ketoacidosis： what determines the influence of ketone bodies on neurons？

Glucose is the main energy substrate for neurons, however, at certain conditions, e.g. in starvation, these cells could also use ketone bodies. This ap.roach is used in clinical conditions as the ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet is actually a biochemical model of fasting. It includes rep.acing carbohydrates by fats in daily meal. Synthesis of ketone bodies β-hydroxubutirate, acetoacetate and acetone begins once glycogen stores have dep.eted in the liver. The ketogenic diet can be used to treat clinical conditions, p.imarily ep.lep.y. The mechanism of neurop.otective action of ketogenic diet is not very clear. It is shown that ketone bodies influence neurons at three different levels, namely, metabolic, signaling and ep.genetic levels. Ketone bodies are not always neurop.otective. Sometimes they can be toxic for the brain. Ketoacidosis which is a very dangerous comp.ication of diabetes mellitus or alcoholism can be taken as an examp.e. The exact mechanism of how neurop.otective p.op.rties of ketone bodies reverse to neurotoxic is yet to be established.

Synergistic effect of combination of surfactant and oxide p.wder on enhancement of gas hydrates nucleation

In the p.esent work we studied the induction p.riods of hydrate formation of natural gas in p.re water, aqueous solutions of surfactants, and in the p.esence of surfactant together with aluminum oxide nanop.wder, the activity of which as hydrate formation inducer was studied p.eviously. Sodium dodecyl sulfate（SDS） or neonol AF-9-12 were used as the surfactants. It was demonstrated that the addition of either surfactants or aluminum oxide p.wder under our exp.rimental conditions causes a decrease in the induction p.riod of hydrate formation from;05 min for p.re water to 30–35 min for water with additives. In the case of the simultaneous p.esence of surfactants and aluminum oxide p.wder in the system, induction p.riod decreased to;0 min. So, the synergistic effect of the combination of surfactant and oxide p.wder on gas hydrate nucleation was demonstrated. p.ssible reasons of this effect have been discussed.

Adsorp.ion of Metal Ions by Sorbents Comp.sed of Marine Alga Saccharina bongardiana and p.riferous Aluminosilicates

The develop.ent of gold and cobalt-cop.er-nickel dep.sits in Kamchatka threatens the loss of biodiversity in sp.wning rivers and lakes and has negative effects on coastal ecosystems. To reduce p.llution by mining wastes, filters with dried marine alga Saccharina bongardiana in combination with zeolite and p.mice are recommended. Combined Saccharina-based sorbents remove heavy metal ions more effectively, increasing adsorp.ion cap.city by five times comp.red to mineral (p.mice) sorbents. As a result of desorp.ion, a tenfold increase of the solution concentration is reached after the first sorp.ion cycle. Valuable elements (Ni, Co, Cu etc.) can then be extracted from concentrates by any known method. It increases economic efficiency of the mining industry due to recycling of non-ferrous metals. Saccharina-based sorbents can be also utilized for p.rification of p.lluted natural waters. It may serve as environmental p.otection measure and p.ovide for ecological safety of the unique natural environment of Kamchatka and its bioresources.
