Percutaneous Balloon Compression and Percutaneous Radiofrequency Ablation in Patients with Idiopathic Trigeminal Neuralgia: Management Outcome

Background: Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain syndrome characterized by paroxysmal, shock-like, stabbing, recurrent episodes of pain localized in the distribution area of one or more branches of the trigeminal nerve. The Initial approach for treating trigeminal neuralgia consists of pharmacological therapy. Many patients experience initial pain relief with pharmacological therapy;however, most of those patients eventually undergo surgery. Patients and Methods: In this descriptive prospective study, we evaluate the efficiency and safety of percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) and percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treating patients with typical idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia. This study includes 21 patients (divided into two groups, PBC = 15 patients and RFA = six patients) who met our inclusion and exclusion criteria, from May 2018 to April 2019, with a follow-up period of six months. Results: At one month postoperative follow-up, all patients in both groups were pain-free. At six months postoperative follow-up, in group 1 (PBC), 14 (95.24%) patients were pain-free, while in group 2 (RFA) all patients remained pain-free. The most common encountered postoperative complications are masticatory muscles weakness (Four patients in PBC group, and one patient in RFA group) and facial hypothesia (12 patients in PBC group and four patients in RFA group). Conclusions: In our study, patients with trigeminal neuralgia were not controlled by drug treatment, but percutaneous balloon compression and percutaneous radiofrequency ablation proved to be very effective treatment options, with no major complications.

Background: Chondrocytes in the growth plate(GP) undergo increases in volume during different cascades of cell differentiation during longitudinal bone growth. The volume increase is reported to be the most significant variable in understanding the mechanism of long bone ***: Forty-five postnatal Sprague-Dawley rat pups, 7-15 days old were divided into nine age groups(P7-P15). Five pups were allocated to each group. The rats were sacrificed and tibia and metatarsal bones were harvested. Bone lengths were measured after 0, 24, 48, and 72 hours of ex vivo incubation. Histology of bones was carried out, and GP lengths and chondrocyte densities were ***: There were significant differences in bone length among the age groups after 0 and 72 hours of incubation. Histological sectioning was possible in metatarsal bone from all age groups, and in tibia from 7-to 13-day-old rats. No significant differences in tibia and metatarsal GP lengths were seen among different age groups at 0 and 72 hours of incubation. Significant differences in chondrocyte densities along the epiphyseal GP of the bones between 0 and 72 hours of incubation were observed in most of the age ***: Ex vivo growth of tibia and metatarsal bones of rats aged 7-15 days old is possible, with percentage growth rates of 23.87 ± 0.80% and 40.38 ± 0.95%measured in tibia and metatarsal bone, respectively. Histological sectioning of bones was carried out without the need for decalcification in P7-P13 tibia and P7-P15 metatarsal bone. Increases in chondrocyte density along the GP influence overall bone elongation.

Merapi volcano located in central Java, Indonesia,is one of the most active stratovolcanoes in the world. Many Earth scientists have conducted studies on this volcano using various methods. The geological features around Merapi are very attractive to be investigated because they have been formed by a complex tectonic process and volcanic activities since tens of millions of years ago. The southern mountain range, Kendeng basin and Opak active fault located around the study area resulted from these processes. DOMERAPI project was conducted to understand deep magma sources of the Merapi volcano comprehensively. The DOMERAPI network was running from October 2013 to mid-April 2015 by deploying 46 broad-band seismometers around the volcano. Several steps, i.e., earthquake event identification,arrival time picking of P and S waves, hypocenter determination and hypocenter relocation, were carried out in this study. We used Geiger＇s method（Geiger 1912） for hypocenter determination and double-difference method for hypocenter relocation. The relocation result will be used to carry out seismic tomographic imaging of structures beneath the Merapi volcano and its surroundings. For the hypocenter determination, the DOMERAPI data were processed simultaneously with those from the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics（BMKG） seismic network in order to minimize the azimuthal gap. We found that the majority of earthquakes occurred outside the DOMERAPI network. There are 464 and 399 earthquakes obtained before and after hypocenter relocation, respectively. The hypocenter relocation result successfully detects some tectonic features, such as a nearly vertical cluster of events indicating a subduction-related backthrust to the south of central Java and a cluster of events to the east of Opak fault suggesting that the fault has an eastward dip.

Diversity of Nocardia species isolated from transplantation and cancer centers of Tehran hospitals

Objective:To identify the biodiversity of Nocardia species isolated from the environments of Tehran hospitals via phenotypic and PCR molecular ***:A total of 236 samples were collected from the transplantation and cancer centers of five Tehran hospitals,and the presence of Nocardia was identified by using standard *** tests were used for preliminary identification,and PCR amplification of the 598 bp amplicon of the 16S rRNA and sequence analysis of 16S rRNA were performed for genus and species ***:From the 236 soil samples,16 samples were identified as positive based on the culture tests,while 8 samples showed positive results based on the molecular *** phylogenetic tree showed that the most frequent genus of Nocardia was related to Nocardia ***:The hospital environment is a potential reservoir of a diverse range of Nocardia *** to the strong capability of survival,these bacteria bring a threat to the health of *** identification can help physicians to implement treatments and is important for healthcare centers.

Nuclear Fuel Cell Calculation Using Collision Probability Method with Linear Non Flat Flux Approach

Nuclear fuel cell calculation is one of the most complicated steps of neutron transport problems in the reactor core. A few numerical methods use neutron flat flux (FF) approximation to solve this problem. In this approach, neutron flux spectrum is assumed constant in each region. The solution of neutron transport equation using collision probability (CP) method based on non flat flux (NFF) approximation by introducing linear spatial distribution function implemented to a simple cylindrical annular cell has been carried out. In this concept, neutron flux spectrum in each region is different each other because of an existing of the spatial function. Numerical calculation of the neutron flux in each region of the cell using NFF approach shows a fairly good agreement compared to those calculated using existing SRAC code and FF approach. Moreover, calculation of the neutron flux in each region of the nuclear fuel cell using NFF approach needs only 6 meshes which give equivalent result when it is calculated using 24 meshes in FF approach. This result indicates that NFF approach is more efficient to be used to calculate the neutron flux in the regions of the cell than FF approach.

Calculation of dpa rate in graphite box of Tehran Research Reactor(TRR)

Radiation damage is an important factor that must be considered while designing nuclear facilities and nuclear materials. In this study, radiation damage is investigated in graphite, which is used as a neutron reflector in the Tehran Research Reactor (TRR) core. Radiation damage is shown by displacement per atom (dpa) unit. A cross section of the material was created by using the SPECOMP code. The concentration of impurities present in the non-irradiated graphite was measured by using the ICP-AES method. In the present study the MCNPX code had identified the most sensitive location for radiation damage inside the reactor core. Subsequently, the radiation damage (spectral-averaged dpa values) in the aforementioned location was calculated by using the SPECTER, SRIM Monte Carlo codes, and Norgett, Robinson and Torrens (NRT) model. The results of “Ion Distribution and Quick Calculation of Damage”(QD) method groups had a minor difference with the results of the SPECTER code and NRT model. The maximum radiation damage rate calculated for the graphite present in the TRR core was 1.567 9 10^-8 dpa/s. Finally, hydrogen retention was calculated as a function of the irradiation time.

A Comparison between Supra-Scarpa’s Fascia Abdominoplasty and Traditional Abdominoplasty: Effect of Caesarian Section

Background: Abdominoplasty is still among the most popular surgeries in the world of cosmetic surgery, as many modifications have been implemented on this surgery to improve aesthetics and reduce the ratio of complication, especially seroma. Also, the duration to drain removal increases the risk of infection, and this can be avoided by preserving the Scarpa’s fascia. Methods: The study was performed from January 2018 to December 2020. The patients were divided into two groups: group A with patients who were performed in Supra-Scarpa’s fascia abdominoplasty, and group B who were performed in traditional abdominoplasty;then group A was divided into two subgroups (A1 with caesarean history and A2 with no caesarean history) that differ in caesarean history or not, while a comparison was done between the groups regarding early outcomes. Results: A total of 40 full abdominoplasties were preformed (group A, 19 patients;group B, 21 patients);then group A was divided into two subgroups (group A1, 13 patients;A2, 6 patients);we found that the time until drain removal and its drain output in group A is less with a statistical significance, and the seroma was less to happen in group A with no statistical significance. However, the operative time in group A is higher with statistical significance. In the subgroups A1 and A2, there was no statistically significant difference in the results. Conclusion: Preservation of the Scarpa’s fascia reduces the time until drain removal, total drain output and the occurrence of seroma and the caesarean scar doesn’t affect the efficacy of preserving the Scarpa’s fascia.

Antimicrobial effect of Malaysian vegetables against enteric bacteria

Objective: To investigate the antibacterial activities of green vegetables(pennywort,mint, garlic, parsley and celery) against four common enteric bacteria [Salmonella enterica(ATCC 25957)(S. enterica), Shigella flexneri(ATCC 12022)(S. flexneri),Escherichia coli(ATCC 43889)(E. coli) and Enterobacter cloacae(ATCC 13047)(E. cloacae)] as an alternative medicine for controlling food borne diarrhea disease and the synergistic effect of green vegetables against those ***: Five common vegetables(pennywort, mint, garlic, parsley and celery) were purchased and extracted. The antimicrobial activities of these extracts were tested against four common enteric bacteria(S. enterica, S. flexneri, E. coli and E. cloacae). Ten different concentrations of the extracts(from 640 to 1.25 mg/m L) were prepared and used for the study. The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) was determined by the broth dilution method. The antimicrobial activities were assessed by using both well diffusion and disc diffusion ***: Garlic extract showed excellent inhibitory effects on all enteric bacteria. Other plants(parsley, celery, mint and pennywort) were not effective against enteric *** MIC of garlic against S. flexneri and E. cloacae was 40 mg/m L. The MIC of S. enterica and E. coli were 20 and 10 mg/m L, respectively. The performance of the well diffusion method was better than that of the disc diffusion method with clear and sharp inhibition zones of tested bacteria against plant ***: Garlic had excellent antimicrobial effects against enteric bacteria and was recommended to be given to patients with gastroenteritis. The other vegetables(pennywort, mint, parsley and celery) showed no inhibitory effects on enteric bacteria but still can be used for its richness in vitamins and fibers. The performance of the well diffusion method was better than that of the disc diffusion method in detecting the antibacterial effects of green vegetables.

Automatic segmentation of Colon Cancer Cells Based on Active Contour Method： A New Approach

Automatic interpretation of the images of colon cell biopsies requires automatic segmentation of these cells in the image obtained. The active contour method for image segmentation is a well known method for automatic detection of the cell contour. However, the application of this method on colon cell images was not effective. In this paper, the authors have proposed a new technique to reduce the analysis time needed to detect cells in a given image. This technique is based on the active contour method but now using a progressive division of the dimensions of the image to achieve convergence. The model proposed succeeded in detecting cells whose boundaries are not necessarily defined by a gradient. The initial curve can be anywhere in the image, and interior contours can be automatically detected. The developed algorithm was successfully applied on textured multispectral images of three types of cells, including benign hyperplasia （BH）, intraepithelial neoplasia （IN）, and carcinoma （Ca） cells.

Milk is very susceptible for growth and development of many microorganisms because it is rich in nutrients and has suitable condition. Thus, it is very vital to respect sanitary conditions at all stages of production and transport of raw milk. The objective of the present investigation was to determine the total bacterial, and acidity in raw milk from milk collection centers in Malayer and Nahavand cities. 52 milk samples were collected from 13 centers in summer 2012 and were analyzed according to standard methods. None of the raw milk samples under investigation, had superior or grade 1 quality. Only 7.7% of the samples were classified as raw milk with grade 2 quality and 92.3% were non-standard. The mean of microbial total count in base was 3.8 × 107 CFU/ml and average acidity in the samples was 0.163. The city of Tochqhaz and aliabade-Damagh has the lowest and the highest microbial total count. In general the result of this study showed unsatisfactory conditions of milk in the milk collection centers of the Malayer and Nahavand cities.
