Objective: To investigate phenolics, fatty acids composition and biological activities of various extracts and fractions of Malaysian Aaptos aaptos. Methods: Fatty acid methyl ester was analyzed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector. Antioxidant activity was determined using 2,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging assay and total phenolics content by Folin-Ciocalteu procedure. Vero cells viability was evaluated using methyl thiazole tetrazolium and the inactivation of herpes simplex virus type 1 by neutral red uptake assay. p-Hydroxybenzamide isolated by column chromatography was characterized by utilizing nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and electron impact mass spectrometry. Results: The chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Aaptos aaptos produced higher portions of straight-chain saturated fatty acid, while hexane extract mainly consisted of unsaturated fatty acid. The five majors of fatty acid methyl ester were identified as behenic acid, cis-10-heptadecenoic acid and cis-10-pentadecenoic acids, palmitic acid and tricosanoic acid. In addition, among all organic extracts, chloroform extract inactivated herpes simplex virus type 1 while exhibited weak cytotoxic activity against normal Vero cells and also exhibited strong cytotoxic activity on HL-60, MCF-7, K562, CEM-SS and WEHI-3 B cells. A phenolic compound, p-hydroxybenzamide was also isolated from the sponge. Conclusions: Aaptos aaptos could be a source to derive the potential antiviral and anticancer agents. However, further studies are needed to determine the mechanism involved in the process.

Mobile ad-hoc networks are wireless self-organized networks in which mobile nodes can connect directly to each other. This fact makes such networks highly susceptible to security risks and threats, as malicious nodes can easily disguise as new trusted nodes and start attacking the network after a certain period of time. Hence, the security of data transmission in MANET has been a hot topic in the past years. Several research works attempted to detect and stop various attacks on MANET nodes and packets. This paper presents an efficient mechanism for secure data dissemination in MANETs. Our approach is based on the identity based cryptography and Message Authentication Code (MAC). The proposed security mechanism prevents malicious nodes from tampering or replaying intermediate packets by means of signing and encrypting the packet at each intermediate trusted node. We tested the efficiency of our system using the ns2 simulator by comparing it to a similar security mechanism. The simulations illustrate that our approach obtains many advantages over other existing approaches for secure data dissemination in MANETs.

Biomass Combined Heat and Power Generation for Anticosti Island: A Case Study

Combined heat and power (CHP) plants (co-generation plants) using biomass as fuel, can be an interesting alternative to the predominant electrical heating in Canada. The biomass-fueled boiler provides heat for the steam cycle which in turn generates electricity from the generator connected to the steam turbine. In addition, heat from the process is supplied to a district heating system. The heat can be extracted from the system in a number of ways, by using a back-pressure steam turbine, an extraction steam turbine or by extracting heat directly from the boiler. The objective of the paper is the design, modeling and simulation of such CHP plant. The plant should be sized for providing electric-ity and heat for the Anticosti Island community in Quebec.

In this paper,we exploit our prior successful synthesis of MOF-199 single crystals using the reaction-diffusion framework(RDF),to synthesize multivariate metal-organic frameworks(MTV-MOFs)version with enhanced *** MTV-MOFs are synthesized by creating defects within the MOF-199 crystal structure by integrating organic linkers entailing different functional ***,5-aminoisophthalic acid(NH_(2)-BDC)and 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid(OH-BDC)are separately mixed with 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid(BTC)in three different starting ratios of X-BDC:BTC(1:3,1:1)and(3:1).The effects of this linker on the morphology of the synthesized MTV-MOFs,their thermal stability,and their surface area are *** extent of the incorporation of the linkers in the framework is elucidated via^(1)H-NMR spectroscopy and it is shown that the incorporation varies as a function of the location along the tubular reactor,a characteristic of *** enhanced properties of the synthesized MTV-MOFs are further demonstrated by measuring its adsorptive capability for methylene blue(MB)and rhodamine B(Rh B)in aqueous solution,and compared with that of the as-synthesized *** kinetic and thermodynamic studies reveal that MTV-MOFs with the ratio of X-BDC:BTC(1:1)exhibit the best uptakes of MB(263 mg/g)for X=OH and Rh B(156 mg/g)for X=NH_(2).The adsorbents are also easily regenerated for three consecutive cycles without losing their *** finally demonstrate that MTV-MOFs can be designed to tune the dye removal selectivity and enhance the removal capacity of both MB and RhB in a binary aqueous solution of these dyes.

Examining the Relationship of Optimism and Emotion Regulation Strategies with General Health among Students of University of Sistan and Baluchestan

Background and Objective: Individuals apply various emotion regulation strategies, some of which are adaptive and others are maladaptive affecting people’s general health. Moreover, individual life-orientation including favorable expectancies about future (optimism) is associated with health-related behaviors. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship of optimism and emotion regulation strategies with general health of university students. Materials and Methods: This was a correlational study. In this regard, 182 students of University of Sistan and Baluchestan (70 males and 112 females) were chosen. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all undergraduate students of the university of Sistan and Baluchestan in the second semester of the 2009-2010 academic year. Considering the nature of the current study, the correlational method was applied. Based on Krejcie and Morgan’s table, a sample of 200 subjects was selected from students majored at different fields including human sciences, basic sciences and technical-engineering through applying multi-stage random sampling method. Eighteen incomplete questionnaire forms were excluded. Finally, data obtained from 182 subjects (112 females, 70 males) were analyzed. The mean age was 21.1 year-old and standard deviation of the sample was 2.06. Samplings were assessed using the Revised Life-Orientation Test (LOT-R), Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and General Health-28 Questionnaire (GHQ-28). Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis. Results: Findings showed that there was a significant positive relationship between optimism and general health (r = 0.22, p < 0.01). Among all research variables, i.e. optimism and emotion regulation strategies (cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression), only optimism was able to predict 0.06 percent of variance of general health (p < 0.001). In this study, superconducting samples of type GdBa2Cu3O7-δ added with x wt% (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.4) nanoferrites ZnFe2O4 and CoFe2O4 were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction technique. The prepared samples were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) in order to determine the volume fraction and lattice parameters. The elemental contents of the prepared samples were determined using particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE). In addition, the oxygen-content of these samples was obtained using non-Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) at 3 MeV proton beam. It is found that the Oxygen-content of GdBa2Cu3O7-δ phase remains practically constant for low additions of both nanoferrites but it increases with high additions. The electrical resistivity of the prepared samples was measured by the conventional four-probe technique from room temperature down to the zero superconducting transition temperature (T0). An increase in the superconducting transition temperature Tc and the critical current density Jc is observed as x varies from 0.0 to 0.06 wt% of (ZnFe2O4)xGdBa2Cu3O7-δ, followed by a systematic decrease with increasing x. On the other hand, the Tc values for (CoFe2O4)xGdBa2Cu3O7-δ show a systematic decrease with x for both high and low additions while Jc is enhanced up to x = 0.01 wt% and decrease with further increase in x.

Introduction: Tuberculosis still characterizes till now a major respiratory insult with concurrent pulmonary manifestations and later disability. Aim of Work: To evaluate the level of exhaled fraction of nitric oxide (FENO) and fraction of exhaled carbon monoxide (FECO) as markers of pulmonary tuberculosis TB activity in patients under chemotherapy in comparison to healthy negative patients and latent TB patients. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 130 patients recruited from the outpatient clinic of Mansoura Chest hospital during the period from May 2019 to December 2019. They were categorized into the three groups: 1) Pulmonary tuberculous patients PTB (group1) which included 48 cases with positive sputum for TB bacilli in the initiation phase after 1 month of starting anti-tuberculous chemotherapy;2) Latent patients (group 2): included 40 patients with positive tuberculin skin test (Mantoux test) > 10 mm. 3) Control patients (group 3) which included 42 healthy volunteers with negative sputum for TB bacilli. They were subjected to portable spirogram as well as exhaled fractional NO and CO measurement. Results: FECO and FENO levels prevailed in pulmonary TB patients followed by Latent TB patients and lastly healthy volunteers (42 ± 12.32/5 ± 0.16 & 38 ± 8.25/6 ± 2.25 and 23 ± 3.25/2 ± 0.40 respectively). Conclusion: Measurement of CO and NO level in expired air may correlate with active pulmonary TB infection in comparison to healthy negative tuberculous patients and latent tuberculous patients.

The Usage of Social Media and E-Reputation System in Global Supply Chain: Comparative Cases from Diamond &Automotive Industries

The last decade witnesses a heave use of social media-based information systems in different fields of business such as logistics, procurement, and supply chain management. Managing these types of information systems, could help companies to outsource their supply chain functions in a global scale and enhance their competitive advantages. However, the digital performance of these activities inherent risks of inappropriate supplier selection, lack of trust, bounded rationality and uncertainty about the supply conditions (e.g., pricing, shipping and timing). To address such challenges, this research explains how companies use e-reputation systems and social media to select their global trusted suppliers. Based on two-case evidence from British Diamond and Egyptian Automotive companies, the researchers conducted 20 interviews with purchasing and supply chain professionals. Chen & Lin’s reputation system model has been adopted to explain the process of selecting and evaluating a trusted supplier and to inform our data analysis. Our findings referred to the lack of experience among diamond professionals on how to use e-reputation systems and their lack of understanding to the role of social media-based ratings or referrals during the stages of selection suppliers’ discovery and approval. Though, automotive professionals find e-reputation system a strong tool to build goodwill, tacit credibility, competence and predictable trust. Ironically, both cases confirm that supply chain professional use these systems to re-evaluate and reselect their existing suppliers than to extend new supply networks.

Percutaneous Balloon Compression and Percutaneous Radiofrequency Ablation in Patients with Idiopathic Trigeminal Neuralgia: Management Outcome

Background: Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain syndrome characterized by paroxysmal, shock-like, stabbing, recurrent episodes of pain localized in the distribution area of one or more branches of the trigeminal nerve. The Initial approach for treating trigeminal neuralgia consists of pharmacological therapy. Many patients experience initial pain relief with pharmacological therapy;however, most of those patients eventually undergo surgery. Patients and Methods: In this descriptive prospective study, we evaluate the efficiency and safety of percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) and percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treating patients with typical idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia. This study includes 21 patients (divided into two groups, PBC = 15 patients and RFA = six patients) who met our inclusion and exclusion criteria, from May 2018 to April 2019, with a follow-up period of six months. Results: At one month postoperative follow-up, all patients in both groups were pain-free. At six months postoperative follow-up, in group 1 (PBC), 14 (95.24%) patients were pain-free, while in group 2 (RFA) all patients remained pain-free. The most common encountered postoperative complications are masticatory muscles weakness (Four patients in PBC group, and one patient in RFA group) and facial hypothesia (12 patients in PBC group and four patients in RFA group). Conclusions: In our study, patients with trigeminal neuralgia were not controlled by drug treatment, but percutaneous balloon compression and percutaneous radiofrequency ablation proved to be very effective treatment options, with no major complications.
