Processing of ingredients and diets and effects on nutritional value for pigs

A conventional diet based on corn and soybean meal fed to pigs is usually provided in a mash form and in most cases, processing other than grinding and mixing is not used. However, due to the high cost of energy in pig diets,use of high fiber ingredients such as soybean hulls, distillers dried grains with solubles, and wheat middlings has increased. High fiber concentrations in the diet usually results in reduced energy and nutrient digestibility due to the low capacity of pigs to digest fiber, which negatively impacts growth performance and carcass composition of the pigs. Feed processing technologies such as changes in grinding procedures, expansion, extrusion, pelleting, use of enzymes or chemical treatments may, however, be used to solubilize some of the cel ulose and hemicel ulose fractions that form the cel wal of plants in the ingredients, and therefore, increase nutrient availability. This may have a positive effect on energy digestibility, and therefore, also on pig growth performance and carcass composition, but effects of different feed technologies on the nutritional value of feed ingredients and diets fed to pigs are not fully understood. It has however, been demonstrated that reduced particle size of cereal grains usually results in increased digestibility of energy, primarily due to increased digestibility of starch. Extrusion or expansion of ingredients or diets may also increase energy digestibility and it appears that the increase is greater in high fiber diets than in diets with lower concentrations of fiber. Chemical treatments have not consistently improved energy or nutrient digestibility, but a number of different enzymes may be used to increase the digestibility of phosphorus, calcium, or energy. Thus, there are several opportunities for using feed technology to improve the nutritional value of diets fed to pigs.

The catalytic performance during the 1-butyne hydrogenation using two reduced Al_(2) O_(3)-supported Pdbased catalysts was carried out in a total recirculation system with an external fixed-bed *** lab-prepared egg-shell NiPd/CeO_(2)-Al_(2) O_(3) catalyst(NiPdCe) with Pd loading=0.5 wt%,Ni/Pd atomic ratio=1 and CeO_(2) loading=3 wt% was synthesized and characterized,and it was compared with an egg-shell Al_(2) O_(3)-supported Pd based commercial catalyst(PdCC).The reduced catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and high-resolution transmission electron *** textural characteristics and ammonia temperature-programmed desorption profiles of the fresh(unreduced) catalysts were also *** catalysts show high 1-butyne conversion and selectivity to 1-butene,but the catalysts also present important differences between hydroisomerizing and hydrogenating *** catalyst shows higher capability for hydroisomerization reactions,while the PdCC catalyst exhibits higher hydrogenating *** observed catalytic performances can be interesting for some industrial processes and can provide a guideline for the development of a Pd-based catalyst with specific catalytic properties.

The widespread availability of portable computing power and inexpensive digital cameras are opening up new possibilities for retailers in some markets. One example is in optical shops,where a number of systems exist that facilitate eyeglassess election. These systems are now more necessary as the market is saturated with an increasingly complex array of lenses,frames,coatings,tints,photochromic and polarizing treatments,etc. Research challenges encompass Computer Vision,Multimedia andHuman-Computer Interaction. Cost factors are also of importance for widespread product acceptance. This paper describes alow-cost system that allows the user to visualize different glasses models in live video. The user can also move the glasses toadjust its position on the face. The system,which runs at 9.5 frames/s on general-purpose hardware,has a homeostatic modulethat keeps image parameters controlled. This is achieved by using a camera with motorized zoom,iris,white balance,etc. Thisfeature can be specially useful in environments with changing illumination and shadows,like in an optical shop. The system alsoincludes a face and eye detection module and a glasses management module.

Study of an Ionic Fluid on the Electrochemical Test of A36 Carbon Steel Ingot

An ionic fluid based on aromatic heterocyclic family constituted by 1,3-diazole groups was investigated. The purpose is to describe their electrochemical characteristics in order to identify the strategy to avoid the A36 carbon steel surface degradation by using electrochemical measurements. We found that the linear polarization resistance reveals an increasing value when the organic unsaturated cyclic ionic fluid was added to the corrosive electrolyte. The polarization curves and Tafel Extrapolation obtained to know the slopes tafel and the inhibitor efficiency from current density (icorr) shows a high efficiency inhibition value.

Insular marine biotas are often richer in faunal diversity than those from the open sea in the same geo- graphical region. The existence of particular island effects were tested under polar conditions by compar- ing infaunal benthic assemblages on Peter I Island with those of similar latitudes in the open ocean at the Bellingshausen Sea and also from the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Sampling was carried out aboard the R/V Hesperides during the expedition named BENTART-2003 from 24 January to 3 March 2003. Benthic samples were collected at 18 stations ranging from 90 to 2 044 m depth, using an USNEL-type box corer （BC） dredge. Representatives of 32 higher taxa of invertebrates were found. Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed various patterns in the data. First, significant differences in polychaete abundance were detected between the stations located in the open sea and the remaining sites （island plus mainland sites）. Bivalve abundances were also distinct between island and mainland sampling sites. Sediment columns taken from the island seafloor exhibited the highest rate of bioturbation by the infauna. These findings confirm the model that islands develop distinct assemblages characterized by the enhancement of the benthic commu- nities even in cold waters. Several abiotic factors were measured simultaneously at the seafloor and along the water column to investigate faunal distribution patterns. Significant correlations were found between the benthic assemblages and a combination of two environmental variables：＂island effect＂（measured as a categorical variable） and the redox state of sediments. Richer and more complex benthic assemblages were found in Peter I Island＇s sea bottom, whereas the more depauperate bottoms remained in the open sea.

Application of a biochemical and clinical model to predict individual survival in patients with end-stage liver disease

AIM:To investigate the capability of a biochemical and clinical model,BioCliM,in predicting the survival of cirrhotic ***:We prospectively evaluated the survival of 172 cirrhotic *** model was constructed using clinical(ascites,encephalopathy and variceal bleeding) and biochemical(serum creatinine and serum total bilirubin) variables that were selected from a Cox proportional hazards *** was applied to estimate 12-,52-and 104-wk *** model's calibration using the Hosmer-Lemeshow statistic was computed at 104 wk in a validation ***,the model's validity was tested among an independent set of 85 patients who were stratified into 2 risk groups(low risk≤8 and high risk>8).RESULTS:In the validation cohort,all measures of fi t,discrimination and calibration were improved when the biochemical and clinical model was *** proposed model had better predictive values(c-statistic:0.90,0.91,0.91) than the Model for End-stage Liver Disease(MELD) and Child-Pugh(CP) scores for 12-,52-and 104-wk mortality,*** addition,the Hosmer-Lemeshow(H-L) statistic revealed that the biochemical and clinical model(H-L,4.69) is better calibrated than MELD(H-L,17.06) and CP(H-L,14.23).There were no significant differences between the observed and expected survival curves in the stratified risk groups(low risk,P=0.61;high risk,P=0.77).CONCLUSION:Our data suggest that the proposed model is able to accurately predict survival in cirrhotic patients.

The European Organization for Research on Treatment of Cancer Research published a consensus statement to establish the key criteria to define oligometastatic disease(OMD).According to those criteria,all lesions(both primary and metastatic)should be amenable to radical intent treatment with acceptable *** retrospective studies have shown that adding local ablative therapy to the treatment of OMD improves outcomes;however,due to the diverse selection criteria and treatment strategies used in those studies,it is difficult to compare directly results to draw definitive *** recent years,prospective phase II trials,such as the SABR-COMET and"Oligomez"trials,have shown that stereotactic body radiation therapy(SBRT)improves outcomes in patients with *** recently,interim results of the randomised phase 3 SINDAS trial were reported at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology 2020 demonstrating that upfront SBRT added to systemic treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors yielded a significant benefit in both progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor-mutant oligometastatic non-small cell lung *** the present editorial,we review the definition and historical context of advanced non-small cell lung cancer with *** addition,we review the scientific evidence for local ablative therapy and SBRT and discuss the results of recently published prospective *** also discuss in depth the results of the SINDAS study,including the strengths and weaknesses of the study and the barriers to extrapolating these results to routine clinical practice.
