The new Rigid Element for Laminated Cylindrical Shell

Thermal effects are incorporated into developed discrete layer mechanics for two-dimensional cylindrical shells structures. Finite element equations are developed according to layerwise theory of laminated structure. Following the layerwise theory, a variable kinematic model that incorporates mechanics and thermal conditions is also presented. The new element has a field of displacement compatible with the cylindrical shell element or plate and it can be used as a rigid element for this structural *** the laminate model construction, adjacent layers are arranged as bonded layers. The layer has a unique constant thickness that can be different to each layer. The fiber reinforced is used and the fibers in a laminate may be oriented arbitrarily. The shear stress is adopted equal to zero because the thin thickness, on the other hand, the normal stress is maintained in order to ensure the compatibility of stress in material. The previously authors of this methods neglect the implications of thermal effects on cylindrical shells structures. Thermal effects become important when the structure has to operate in either extremely hot or cold temperature environments. These extreme conditions may severely affect the response of structure in two distinct ways：（1） induction of thermal stresses due to differences in the coefficients of thermal expansion between the various composite plies and layers and （2） temperature dependence of the elastic properties. Only a limited amount of work has been reported concerning this topic. All in all, the main contribution of this work is the consideration of this kinematic for cylindrical shells that incorporate mechanics and thermal conditions. In addition, numerical results are presented to demonstrate the capability of the current formulation to represent the behavior of cylindrical shells with these characteristics.

Are assemblages of the fireworm Hermodice carunculata enhanced in sediments beneath offshore fish cages?

Abundances of the fireworm Hermodice carunculata were counted through a monitoring assessment study of fish cages in Barranco Hondo（nE Tenerife）. Seven campaigns were conducted from november 2007 to June 2010 and temporal variations were found, as well as differences among sampling stations. The polychaete H. carunculata obtained its highest abundance in sediments beneath fish cages throughout the study period. Thus, the assemblages of this omnivorous species were favoured by the presence of fish cages.

Insular marine biotas are often richer in faunal diversity than those from the open sea in the same geo- graphical region. The existence of particular island effects were tested under polar conditions by compar- ing infaunal benthic assemblages on Peter I Island with those of similar latitudes in the open ocean at the Bellingshausen Sea and also from the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Sampling was carried out aboard the R/V Hesperides during the expedition named BEnTART-2003 from 24 January to 3 March 2003. Benthic samples were collected at 18 stations ranging from 90 to 2 044 m depth, using an USnEL-type box corer （BC） dredge. Representatives of 32 higher taxa of invertebrates were found. Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed various patterns in the data. First, significant differences in polychaete abundance were detected between the stations located in the open sea and the remaining sites （island plus mainland sites）. Bivalve abundances were also distinct between island and mainland sampling sites. Sediment columns taken from the island seafloor exhibited the highest rate of bioturbation by the infauna. These findings confirm the model that islands develop distinct assemblages characterized by the enhancement of the benthic commu- nities even in cold waters. Several abiotic factors were measured simultaneously at the seafloor and along the water column to investigate faunal distribution patterns. Significant correlations were found between the benthic assemblages and a combination of two environmental variables：＂island effect＂（measured as a categorical variable） and the redox state of sediments. Richer and more complex benthic assemblages were found in Peter I Island＇s sea bottom, whereas the more depauperate bottoms remained in the open sea.

Collaborative Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio: Diversity Combining Approach

In this paper it is shown that cyclostationary spectrum sensing for Cognitive Radio networks, applying multiple cyclic frequencies for single user detection can be interpreted (with some assumptions) in terms of optimal incoherent diversity addition for “virtual diversity branches” or SIMO radar. This approach allows proposing, by analogy to diversity combining, suboptimal algorithms which can provide near optimal characteristics for the neyman-Pearson Test (nPT) for single user detection. The analysis is based on the Generalized Gaussian (Klovsky-Middleton) Channel Model, which allows obtaining the nPT noise immunity characteristics: probability of misdetection error (PM) and probability of false alarm (Pfa) or Receiver Operational Characteristics (ROC) in the most general way. Some quasi-optimum algorithms such as energetic receiver and selection addition algorithm are analyzed and their comparison with the noise immunity properties (ROC) of the optimum approach is provided as well. Finally, the diversity combining approach is applied for the collaborative spectrum sensing and censoring. It is shown how the diversity addition principles are applied for distributed detection algorithms, called hereafter as SIMO radar or distributed SIMO radar, implementing Majority Addition (MA) approach and Weighted Majority Addition (WMA) principle.

In two contrasting agricultural ecohabitats (agrohabitats) in the avocado production area in the municipality of Cuernavaca, Morelos, an analysis of nutrimental status, soil fertility and water quality was conducted to measure soil fertility levels and to determine the nutrimental state of the trees. The “Hass” variety avocado groves studied had an average age of 8 years;the first grove was planted in an acrisol soil (1700 to 1900 meters above mean sea level [mamsl]);the second, in an andosol soil (1200 to 1700 mamsl). In each agrohabitat, tests were performed to determine the soil’s physical and chemical characteristics. The physical and chemical characteristics of the soils of this zone differ as do the nutrimental states of the avocado trees in the two agrohabitats. The trees showed excessive concentration of Ca, Fe, S, Z and Mg. The indices of Deviation from Optimal Percentage (DOP) in the two agrohabitats showed different nutrimental requirements;nevertheless, they were low and very near to zero, 14.218 and 13.350 respectively. The water used for the agricultural irrigation was low in salinity and sodium content and thus may be used for the agricultural irrigation without restrictions.

numerical Study of Highly nonlinear Photonic Crystal Fiber with Tunable Zero Dispersion Wavelengths

Solid-core silica photonic crystal fiber is proposed borrowing the concept of golden ratio (1.618) and keeping it between pitch and air hole diameter Λ/d in a subset of six rings of air-holes with hexagonal arrangement. In the case when we have a pitch equal to one micron (Λ = 1 μm), we need air-holes diameters d = 0.618 μm in order to achieve two zero dispersion wavelength (ZDW) points at 725 nm and 1055 nm;this gives us the possibility to use the fiber for supercontinuum generation, by pumping close to that points, pulse compression or reshaping. We analyzed a series of fibers using this relation and showed the possibilities of tunable ZDW in a wide range of wavelengths from 725 nm to 2000 nm, with low losses and small effective area. In agreement with the ZDW point needed, the geometry of the structure can be modified to the point of having only three rings of air holes that surround the solid core with low losses and good confinement mode. The design proposed here is analyzed using the finite element method with perfectly matched layers, including the material dispersion directly into the model applying the Sellmeier’s equation.

Influences of Amazonian White and Black Waters on the Hematological and Biochemical Plasma Features of Arapaima gigas （Osteoglossiformes）

The Arapaima gigas, despite being an air breather, its gill structure is quite close to water breathers, especially in early stages of development. The effects of Amazonian waters is well notices in other Teleostei expose to BW （black water）, and WW （white water）. However, information about hematological adjustments and its implications to ionic regulation patters are scarce. Therefore, our aim was to analyzed A. gigas hematological parameters when exposed to BW and WW providing suitable hematological data concerning about physiological responses in Amazonian waters. Fish were acclimated in three separated ponds containing BW, WW and well water as control （C）. Blood samples were taken from the caudal vessel in order to perform measurement assays on levels of hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, corpuscular hemoglobin, corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, glucose, cholesterol and protein. Our findings corroborate the hypothesis stating that BW does interfere on fish adaptation specialy in smallfish （-100 g）. However in largefish （-1,000 g） neither WW or BW can interfere on plasma profile of analysed fish. Despite black water systems being considered a barrier constraining the dispersion of several species, this seems not to be a problem for this specie which has kept its ion-regulatory mechanisms even in black waters.
