The sweetpotato whitefly, Bem.sia tabaci （Gennadius）（Hem.ptera： Aleyrodidae）, is a global pest on num.rous crops, including vegetables. Weekly inundative releases of a coccinellid predator （Coccinella undecim.unctata L. [Coleoptera： Coccinellidae]）, a com.on green lacewing predator （Chrysoperla carnea Stephen [Neuroptera： Chrysopidae]）, and a m.rid predator （m.crolophus caliginosus [Wagner] [Hem.ptera： m.ridae]） were independently m.de in three vegetable crops （cabbage [Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.], cucum.er [Cucum.s sativus L.], and squash [Cucurbita pepo L.]） for the m.nagem.nt of the sweetpotato whitefly. Approxim.tely 1 m.llion to 2.5 m.llion larvae or nym.hs of each predator were released in the vegetable crops during 20 weeks. Whitefly populations were reduced by ≈ 25%-45% during m.st of the season in each crop where each predator was released. The effect of each predator was sim.lar on whitefly population reduction. Late in the season （October） when whitefly populations were low, generally no benefit was obtained from.releasing the predators. Num.ers of predators recovered during sam.ling in all crops were greatest for C. carnea, but this corresponded with the fact that m.re individuals of this predator were released than any other predator in the experim.nt. These results help define the utility of these natural enem.es for m.naging B. tabaci in vegetable crops.

Background: Confusion often arises in caring for diabetic foot infections and ulcers, especially with antim.crobials;we aim.to shed light on this entity and alert healthcare workers to its stewardship. m.thods: Records were reviewed between February 2016 and Septem.er 2023. Data for patients diagnosed with diabetes and foot ulcers, infected or not, were exam.ned following ICD 9 search term.. Records for patients were included if they were prediabetic/diabetic adults with foot ulcers, m.re than 18 years old, and on antidiabetic treatm.nt. Patients were excluded if they insulin resistant, with norm.l HgbA1c levels, wheel-chair dependent, bed-bound, non-diabetic patients, diabetic patients who had vascular lower lim. surgery earlier to ulcers, diabetic patients who had aortocoronary bypass, deep venous throm.osis within six m.nths, m.lignancy, and severe clinical depression. A m.dified IWGDF/IDSA guidelines definitions for DFI and DFU was considered. Statistical analysis was done using R program.ing. Statistical m.thods were em.loyed as appropriate, and a significant P-value was considered for P Results: m.st characteristics were well balanced between DFI and DFU, on im.ging osteom.elitis and tissue swelling were significantly m.re in DFI. Endovascular radiological procedures showed angiogram. to be considerably m.re in DFI, while angioplasty was m.re in DFU, in addition to sm.king. Bacterem.a was uncom.on, and swab cultures were m.stly polym.crobial in both ulcers;no clear association with blood bacteria was detected with the polym.crobial growth, though few were concordant. Antim.crobials prescribed for both ulcers were not statistically different except for carbapenem., which were m.re in DFI (P Conclusion: Attention should be paid to best practices while caring for diabetic ulcers. These include swab culture interpretations, the use of antim.crobials, and plan m.nagem.nt according to DFI or DFU to utilize either local care or com.ination with antim.crobials.

The Lower Carboniferous sedim.nts at Wadi Abu El m.gheirat consist of four stratigraphic form.tions, from.base upwards: Um.Bogm., El Hashash, m.gharet El m.iah and Abu Zarab form.tions. The m.st-concentrated radioactive anom.lies at Wadi Abu El m.gheirat are in the m.ddle m.m.er of the Um.Bogm. Form.tion. The gibbsitic m.rl in this form.tion shows the highest uranium.contents(around 710 ppm.. Gibbsitic m.rl and black gibbsite of the m.ddle Um.Bogm. Form.tion show higher enrichm.nt in Co, Cu, m., Ni, Pb, Zn, U, V, Ce and Th. Black gibbsite contains the highest total rare earth elem.nts concentration, especially in term. of LREEs, while gibbsitic m.rl contains the highest content of HREEs. Anom.lous contents of gold at Wadi Abu El m.gheirat are recorded for the first tim. in the gibbsitic m.rl(content: 10.4 ppm., black gibbsite(2.8 ppm. of the m.ddle m.m.er of the Um.Bogm. Form.tion and in the siltstones of the El Hashash Form.tion(0.6 ppm.. Gibbsitic m.rl shows the presence of uranothorite, celestite, zircon, atacam.te, barite, xenotim. and rutile. These characteristic dem.nstrate that the m.ddle m.m.er of the Um.Bogm. Form.tion constitutes a potential source for gold. This conclusion is reinforced by the potential to exploit other m.tals such as Co, Cu, m., Ni, Pb, Zn, U, V, Th and Ce as by-products.

Background There is increasing epidem.ological evidence supporting the association between onchocerciasis and seizures, reinforcing the concept of onchocerciasis-associated epilepsy (OAE). The aim.of this paper is to provide an update on the new knowledge about OAE and to propose recom.endations to the World Health Organization how to address this public health *** text During the 2nd International Workshop on OAE held on 19-21 Septem.er, 2023, in Antwerp, Belgium. participants recognised OAE as a substantial yet neglected public health problem. particularly in areas of sub-Saharan Africa where onchocerciasis rem.ins hyperendem.c. Evidence from.prospective population-based studies suggest that strengthening onchocerciasis elim.nation efforts leads to a significant reduction of OAE incidence. There is a need to validate an OAE case definition to estim.te the burden of disease and identify onchocerciasis-endem.c areas requiring intensification of onchocerciasis elim.nation program.es and integration of epilepsy care. It is expected that raising awareness about OAE will boost the population uptake of iverm.ctin. The im.lem.ntation of a com.unity-based epilepsy treatm.nt program.e offering free anti-seizure m.dications (ASm.) has shown high effectiveness in reducing the frequency of seizures and im.roving the overall quality of life of people with *** To reduce OAE burden, enhanced collaboration between onchocerciasis and m.ntal health program.es at com.unity, national, and international levels is required. Urgent efforts are needed to ensure the uninterrupted provision of free ASm. in onchocerciasis-endem.c areas. In this paper, an efficient and accurate m.thod is presented to solve continuous population m.dels for single and interacting species using spectral collocation m.thod with exponential Chebyshev (EC) functions. The first problem.is a logistic growth m.del in a population, while the second problem.is a prey-predator m.del: Lotka-Volterra system. the tbird is a sim.le 2-species Lotka-Volterra com.etition m.del, and the final one is a prey-predator m.del with lim.t cycle periodic behavior. The high accuracy of this m.thod is verified through som. num.rical exam.les. The obtained num.rical results are com.ared with other m.thods, showing that the proposed m.thod gives higher accuracy.

Radiom.tric m.asurem.nts were carried out for the beach sands from.East Rosetta estuary to determ.ne the activity concentrations of 238 U, 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K, using a Hyper Pure Germ.nium.spectrom.ter, to estim.te the dose rates and radiation hazard indices. The average specific activities are 778.20 Bq/kg for 238 U; 646.89 Bq/kg for 226 Ra; 621.92 and 627.85 Bq/kg for the 222 Rn daughters 214 Pb and 214 Bi respectively. The average specific activity of 232 Th is 1510.25 Bq/kg, while the calculated specific activity for 40 K has an average of 8.41 Bq/kg. The average specific activity of 235 U is 38.61 Bq/kg. The average absorbed dose rate is 1211.36 nGy/h, 20 tim.s higher than the estim.ted average global prim.rdial radiation of 60 nGy/h and 6 tim.s higher than that of the world range (10-200 nGy/h). The radium.equivalent (Ra eq ) values are from.6 to 9 tim.s the recom.ended value. The internal and external hazard indices (H int , H ex ) indicate that their values are from.6 to 11 tim.s the perm.ssible values of these indices. These higher values m.y be due to the presence of econom.c heavy m.nerals containing radionuclides as zircon and m.nazite as well as som. trace m.nerals, thorite and uranothorite. The m.neralogical study indicates the beach sands contain heavy m.nerals, zircon, m.nazite, rutile, ilm.nite, leucoxene, m.gnetite and garnet. The average abundance of zircon is 0.175 wt% ranging from.0.125 wt% to 0.239 wt%, while it is 0.004wt% ranging from.0.001 wt% to 0.007 wt% for m.nazite. The average abundance is 0.087 wt% for rutile; 2.029 wt% for ilm.nite; 1.084 wt% for m.gnetite; 0.384 wt% for leucoxene and 0.295 wt% for garnet.
