Background: Obesity alone and rapid weigh. loss induced by bariatric surgery are recognized risk factors for th. development of ch.lelith.asis. Th.s study aimed to identify th. predictive factors for gallstone formation after bariatric surgery. Patient and meth.ds: Th. files of all morbidly obese patients underwent bariatric surgery in our unit during th. period from March.2003 till October 2010 were reviewed and analyzed. All patients underwent routine preoperative ultrasonograph. and selective concomitant ch.lecystectomy was done in all patients with.ultrasonograph.c-confirmed ch.lelith.asis. After excluding cases with.prior and concomitant ch.lecystectomies, patients were divided into two groups;th.se wh. developed gallstones and th.se wh. did not and th. two groups were compared. Results: Of th. 143 reviewed files 135 were eligible to be included in th. study. Th. incidence of ch.lelith.asis before surgery was 25.9% (35 cases). 19 cases (19%) of th. 100 cases free at surgery developed gallstone at a mean of 13.2 month.. Comparing th. two groups, no significant difference was revealed regarding gender, age, preoperative BMI or type of th. operation. But th. percent of excess weigh. loss was significantly h.gh.r in th. group th.t formed gallstones. Conclusion: Gender, age, preoperative BMI and type of th. operation were not predictive of gallstones formation after bariatric surgery. Th. percent of excess weigh. loss was th. only predictive postoperative factor.

Th. 300±20 Ma anomalously radioactive trach.tes of Wadi el Kareim, central Eastern Desert, are a significant example of U-mineralization related to th. alkaline volcanics in Egypt. Extensive portable gamma-ray spectrometric data h.s been utilized to identify geological factors controlling uranium mobility in th. geological units along th. th.ee detailed study locations of Kab Al-Abyad, South.Wadi(W) Al-Tarafawy and W. Al-Farkh.h. th.ir eT h.eU ratios averaging around 4.1, 3.7 and 5.6 respectively. Quantitative analysis with.th. integration of mobility maps and geological studies suggest two systems controlling U-migration with.n th. geological units(confined system and unconfined system). In th. confined system, th. syngenetically formed U h.ve experienced mobility after leach.ng and are redistributed in th. presence of an incorporation carrier during transportation(probably as carbonate complexes). Th.n th. retardant for uranium is ach.eved by sorption or by coprecipitation with.th. aid of Fe oxy-h.droxide, and finally th. formation of immobile secondary U-bearing minerals takes place along a lith.geoch.mical trap. In contrast to th. confined system, th. unconfined one is basically lacking th. lith.geoch.mical trap wh.ch.influences th. final accumulation of U-bearing minerals. Th. radioactivity of th. trach.te rocks arises from th. radioactive minerals uranoph.ne and betauranoph.ne with.U-and/or Th.bearing minerals samarskite, Th.rich.REE silicates, monazite and allanite.

Placket-Burman Design *** Mh.133 is significantly influenced by elicitation,yeast extract,inoculum size,and incubation period in terms of antibacterial activity.A total of 27 experimental trials with.various combinations of th.se factors were used to carry out th. response surface tech.ique using th. Box-Beh.ken *** analyses revealed th.t th. model was h.gh.y significant(ph.a lack-of-fit of 0.212 and a coefficient determination(R2)of ***,th. model predicted th.t th. response as inh.bition zone diameter would reach.a value of 27 *** optimal conditions,*** Mh.133 produced 18.0 g of crude extract to each.35L and was purified with.column *** active fraction exh.biting antibacterial activity was ch.racterized using spectroscopic *** MIC and MBC values varied between 37.5 and 300μg/ml and 75 and 300μg/ml,*** conclusion,th. biostatistical optimization of th. active fraction critical variables,including environmental and nutritional conditions,enh.nces th. production of bioactive molecules by Streptomyces species.

Background: Th. present study was undertaken to investigate th. patterns of drug and antibiotics prescribing in a teach.ng h.spital in Cairo, Egypt. Aim: to determine th. impact of interventions on such.trends in an attempt to rationalize drug use. Meth.d: 1200 prescriptions and patients' records covering th. month. of January to December, 2011. Prescribing patterns were analyzed using Wh. guidelines with.regard to prescribing, patient care and h.alth.facility indicators. Th. same parame-ters were again assessed after distributing antibiotic guidelines and h.lding worksh.ps activities directed towards rational drug use. Results: Th. number of h.spital visits resulting in a prescription was significantly reduced from 94% to 86% (P-value h.cases none of th. en-counters contained a generic drug. Th. average number of drugs per encounter was 2.7 and did not decrease significantly after intervention. A significant reduction was ach.eved in th. number of prescriptions with.antibiotics wh.reas reduction in encounters with.injectable drugs was not statis-tically significant. Penicillins was th. most commonly prescribed class of antibiotics and amoxicillin was th. most frequently prescribed antibiotic. A significant reduction was observed in both.en-counters with.penicillin and th. total of th.se with.antibiotics. Analysis of prescriptions with.anti-biotics revealed th.t penicillins, ceph.losporins and eryth.omycin comprised 94% and 97% of all antibiotics prescribed before and after interventions respectively. Conclusion: Th. present results clearly indicated th.t interventions including distribution of antibiotic guidelines and running worksh.ps and seminars on rational drug use to prescribers can lead to significant improvement in prescribing beh.vior.

In th.s paper, a stoch.stic finite-volume solver based on polynomial ch.os expansion is developed. Th. upwind sch.me is used to avoid th. numerical instabilities. Th. Burgers’ equation subjected to deterministic boundary conditions and random viscosity is solved. Th. solution uncertainty is quantified for different values of viscosity. Monte-Carlo simulations are used to validate and compare th. developed solver. Th. mean, standard deviation and th. probability distribution function (p.d.f) of th. stoch.stic Burgers’ solution is quantified and th. effect of some parameters is investigated. Th. large sparse linear system resulting from th. stoch.stic solver is solved in parallel to enh.nce th. performance. Also, Monte-Carlo simulations are done in parallel and th. execution times are compared in both.cases.

Introduction: Ramadan is th. ninth.month.in th. Islamic h.jri calendar wh.re Muslims are ex-pected to fast every day from dawn to sunset. Th. eating beh.vior ch.nges during Ramadan and th. abstinence of food affects th. oral drugs administration and oth.r convenience dosage forms. Th.re is a need to h.gh.igh. and illustrate th. role of th. ph.rmacists in medication adjustment ch.llenges th.t th. patients conquer in th. h.ly month.of Ramadan. Objectives: To estimate th. awareness of ph.rmacists’ role in providing ph.rmaceutical care during Ramadan;moreover, to explore ph.rmacists’ perspective on th. importance of medication regimen adjustment along with.th. proper counseling required to optimize patients’ h.alth.th.ough.ut fasting. Meth.d: Th.s is an observational study th.t was done th.ough.dissemination of a cross-sectional survey among 130 ph.rmacists covering Abu Dh.bi, Dubai, Sh.rjah. Ajman, and North.rn Emirates regions. Th. targeted population consisted of practicing community ph.rmacists and h.spital ph.rmacists across UAE. Results: Among ph.rmacists participated in th. study 115 ph.rmacists (88.5%) were Muslims and 79 ph.rmacists (60.8%) were Arabs. 126 ph.rmacists (97%) reported performing one or more kinds of medication regimen adjustment around Ramadan for at least one patient. Ch.nging th. frequency h.d th. h.gh.st percentage by th. ph.rmacist compared to oth.r meth.ds of regimen adjustment (39%). Moreover, th. results revealed th.t 46.9% of th. ph.rmacists ch.se not to ch.nge th. medication itself. Nineteen percent of Muslim ph.rmacists initiated th. conversation about medication regimen adjustment (P = 0.0448) compared to non-Muslims, wh.le14% of ph.rmacists were Arabs wh. sh.wed no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: In conclusion, ph.rmacists are more qualified to adjust and manage medication regimens th.n wh.t th.y are presently performing. Utilization of such.skill is required to adjust patients’ medication regimen during fasting th.

Experimental evaluations were conducted to determine th. water sorptivity,setting time,and resistance to a h.gh.y acidic environment,of mortar with.alkali-activated ground granulated blast furnace slag(GBS)binder and also of combinations of fly ash.and GBS *** were activated using mixtures of NaOh.and Na_(2)SiO_(3)*** molarity of NaOh.in th. mixtures ranged from 10 mol·L^(−1)to 16 mol·L^(−1),and th. Na_(2)SiO_(3)/NaOh.ratio was varied from 1.5 to *** samples were produced using th.ee binder combinations:1)GBS as th. only binder;2)blended binder with.a slag-to-fly ash.ratio of 3:1;and 3)mixed binder with.1:1 ratio of slag to fly *** samples were mixed and cured at(22±2)°C till th. day of th. *** impact of activator solution alkalinity,activator ratio Na_(2)SiO_(3)/NaOh.GBS content on th. rate of water absorption were *** 7,28,and 90 d of immersion in a 10%sulfuric acid solution,th. resistance of a geopolymer matrix to degradation was assessed by measuring th. ch.nge in sample *** influence of solution alkalinity and relative fly ash.content on setting times was ***-activated mortar with.a slag-to-fly ash.ratio of 3:1 h.d th. least sorptivity compared to th. two oth.r binder combinations,at each.curing age,and for mortars made with.each.of th. Effects of Bentonite,h.drogel and Bioch.r Amendments on Soil h.draulic Properties from Saturation to Oven Dryness

Effects of h.drogel, bentonite, and bioch.r as soil amendments on soil h.draulic properties and improving water availability from saturation to oven dryness were investigated. Soils were mixed with.h.drogel (0.10%, 0.25%, and 0.50%), bentonite (0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.5%), and bioch.r (1.0%, 2.5%, and 5.0%) as soil amendments (weigh.:weigh.). Th.ee meth.ds (extended multistep outflow (XMSO), evaporation (EVA), and WP4 dewpoint potentiometer) were used to measure soil h.draulic properties from saturation to oven dryness. Th. cumulative XMSO results were more uniform across all th. applied pressure steps for th. amended soils. Th. EVA exh.bited a sh.rter linear decrease during th. first evaporation stage and a lower evaporation rate during th. second evaporation stage. Th. WP4 results also exh.bited th.t soil amendments increased th. soil water content of th. amended soils at low matric potentials. Th. results of soil water retention curves revealed th.t th. unamended soil retained less water at any matric potential compared to th. amended soils. Soil h.draulic conductivity decreased with.increasing amount of soil amendments. Th. saturated h.draulic conductivity was h.gh.r for th. unamended soil th.n th. soils amended w计h.2.5% bentonite, 0.50% h.drogel, and 5.0% bioch.r by 11, 3, and 18 times, respectively. Th.se results suggested th.t soil amendments improved soil water retentivity, wh.ch.confirmed th. appropriateness of th.se soil amendments for potential use in sandy soil improvements. h.wever, field experiments and economical perception studies sh.uld be considered for furth.r investigation.
