Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva is one of the most common malignancies in the elderly. Purpose: To describe the specific aspects of squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva and to determine the therapeutic modalities. Materials and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional retrospective study carried out at the University Hospital Center of Bouake over a period of 9 years (From January 2015 to December 2023). We identified all malignant oculo-adnexal and orbital tumors whose histopathological diagnosis was confirmed;monitoring the sorting of squamous cell carcinomas of the conjunctiva among these cancers and studying the different parameters linked to them. Results: The average age of patients is 44.3 years. Male predominance with a sex ratio of 1.12. HIV was the majority ATCD with 64.7%. The main reason for consultation was exophthalmos (36.11%). The average consultation time was 10 months 13 days. Invasive differentiated conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma was predominant at 55.56%. Enucleation was the most performed surgical method. Conclusion: Squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva is a malignant ocular tumor of the elderly whose frequency increases in young adults infected with HIV-AIDS. Invasive differentiated forms are increasingly encountered, limiting treatment to mutilating surgery.

This editorial comments on the study by Pierzynowska et al investigating the acini-islet-acinar(AIA)reflex,which integrates the exocrine and endocrine functions of the *** study investigates whether exogenous amylase introduced to the interstitial fluid surrounding pancreatic islets can inhibit insulin ***,high serum amylase levels were associated with pancreatitis,but recent findings suggest that low amylase levels are more linked to metabolic diseases like diabetes and *** their experiment,six pigs were used to examine the effects of amylase infusion on insulin release during an intravenous glucose tolerance *** pigs received different treatments(amylase,saline,or bovine serum albumin),and blood samples were taken over two hours to measure insulin and glucose *** results showed amylase delayed glucose-stimulated insulin release,whereas bovine serum albumin increased insulin levels supporting the existence of the AIA reflex and suggesting amylase as a key metabolic *** supplementation,particularly withα-amylases,may offer therapeutic benefits in preventing and managing metabolic disorders,including diabetes and *** research is warranted to explore the full scope of amylase’s role in metabolic health and its therapeutic potential.

Metal-organic framework(MOF)-derived catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis: Recent progress and future perspectives

Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis(FTS) is an important catalytic chemical reaction that converts a mixture of CO and H2(syngas) derived from biomass, coal or natural gas into ultra-clean fuels or value-added chemicals. However, most traditional catalysts used in the Fischer-Tropsch process are faced with the problems of high deactivation rate triggered by sintering, phase changes and oxidation which hamper their catalytic performance. Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)-derived materials have been a promising alternative in addressing the catalyst deactivation problems in FTS because of the encapsulation of their metal nanoparticles in carbon matrix and absence of large particle size, among other reasons. Therefore, this review emphasizes the most recent research headway in the investigation of MOFs as precursors to achieve high-performance FTS catalysts. Precisely, the design of iron and cobalt-based FTS catalysts from parent MOFs via MOF-mediated synthesis, the catalytic activity of the MOF-derived materials and the promoter effects under FTS operation were outlined and discussed. We have also evaluated the influence of MOF structures on the FTS performance and compared them with traditional/commercially available catalysts to show the importance of this approach. Finally, the challenges and opportunities to further expedite the extensive research efforts and promote their applications in material design and FT technology were mentioned.

In this paper,we study the concept of split monotone variational inclusion problem with multiple output *** propose a new relaxed inertial iterative method with self-adaptive step sizes for approximating the solution of the problem in the framework of Hilbert *** proposed algorithm does not require the co-coerciveness nor the Lipschitz continuity of the associated single-valued ***,some parameters are relaxed to accommodate a larger range of values for the step *** some mild conditions on the control parameters and without prior knowledge of the operator norms,we obtain strong convergence result for the proposed ***,we apply our result to study certain classes of optimization problems and we present several numerical experiments to demonstrate the implementability of the proposed *** of the existing results in the literature could be viewed as special cases of our result in this paper.

Quality attributes of chicken nuggets extended with different legume flours

Chicken nugget is a comminuted meat product commonly prepared from spiced chicken meat and other ingredients. The tenderness of chicken meat lowers its firmness and mouth feel which may reduce acceptability of chicken nugget made from it. Thus, acceptability of chicken nugget could be harnessed when legume flour extenders are used along. Therefore, acceptability as well as quality of chicken nugget from different legume flours were evaluated. Soyabean, groundnut and cowpea flours were used as meat extenders for development of raw chicken nuggets and thereafter cooked for consumption. The quality of both raw and cooked legume flour extended chicken nuggets were assessed based on functional properties, sensory properties, proximate composition, amino acid content and shelf stability in terms of lipid peroxidation and microbial load. In their raw state, the legume flour extenders competed favourably with each other. Among all, soyabean flour extender maintained remarkable functional properties that transcend into significant (P < 0.05) yield of 86.93% of chicken nugget in comparison to the control (86.37%), groundnut (84.95%) and cowpea (84.50%). Upon cooking, all the legume flour extended chicken nuggets varied in their quality attributes. Apart from the high level of flavour and low microbial load, cowpea extended chicken nugget was of low quality based on the parameters evaluated in comparison with other legume flour extended chicken nuggets. Of interest, soyabean extended chicken nugget followed by groundnut extended chicken nugget were of good quality based on sensory properties, high crude protein and amino acid levels, low cholesterol content and lipid peroxidation value as well as low microbial load.

Cement-lime stabilization of crude oil contaminated kaolin clay

The present study examines the effect of stabilization on the geo-environmental properties of crude oil contaminated kaolin *** and cement were mixed in a ratio of 1:2 and added to the simulated crude oil contaminated kaolin clay at different percentages(5%,10%,15%,and 20%)as a stabilizing *** investigated include consistency limits,unconfined compressive strength(UCS),and direct shear,and compressibility and leaching characteristics of the untreated and stabilized *** experimental testing reveals a decrease in the consistency limits with addition of the stabilizing *** UCS values occurred for 15%cement-lime stabilized kaolin clay at different curing periods(i.e.0 d,7 d,14 d,and 28 d).By increasing the cement-lime content from 5%to 15%,the UCS values of the stabilized clay increase from 185 kPa to 350 kPa and from 785 kPa to 1160 kPa for uncured and 28 dcured samples,*** the compression and recompression indices of the contaminated kaolin clay from the consolidation test decrease by 40%and 50%,respectively,with 20%stabilizing binder *** leachability of the contaminated clay also reduces with incorporation of cement and *** to the scanning electron microscope(SEM)test,addition of stabilizing binder transforms the dispersed structure of contaminated kaolin clay into a knitted flocculated *** study shows the effectiveness of cement-lime mix in stabilizing the contaminated kaolin clay and the possible use of stabilized contaminated kaolin clay as an alternative construction material.

This paper examines different modes of non-verbal communication deployed as discursive strategies/safety protocol measures during the Covid-19 crisis to warn people against contracting the disease and to contain its *** data,which consist of forty purposively selected images used by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and remodified logos of some international brands shared on the social media space—NCDC website,Facebook and Twitter,are divided into four broad categories and analysed qualitatively using Kress and van Leeuwen’s Social Semiotic framework to examine their representational *** non-verbal modes of communication are used as representations to create awareness about the pandemic,depict its manifestations(signs and symptoms)and educate people on the important guidelines to observe in order to prevent contracting the infectious ***,different semiotic resources are deployed as meaning-making processes to interrogate these thematic *** study concludes that the choice of the non-verbal modes/images are intentional and strategic as their specificity projects the intended meaning of the message,enhances wider reach and enables effective communication of proper management of the health crisis.
