BACKGRo.ND: o.stetric Fistula is a majo. public health pro.lem in develo.ing wo.ld. It is asso.iated with a high fetal wastage rate. The o.jective o. this study was to.evaluate different types o. o.stetric fistula and their fetal wastage rate. METHo.: A retro.pective po.ulatio. study was do.e at the Natio.al o.stetric Fistula Centre, Abakaliki between 1st January-31st December, 2016. The calculated minimum sample size was 3, ho.ever, the to.al number o. 203 patients were studied. The case no.es o. all the wo.en who.had o.stetric fistula repairs o.er the perio. were analyzed. RESULTS: The mean age fro. this study was 38 ± 12.1 years. The fetal wastage rate fro. this study was 82.76% while the live birth was 17.24%. Seventy percent o. the stillbirth were delivered via SVD, while 11% o. stillbirth were delivered thro.gh EmCS. Twelve different types o. fistula were identified in this study using anato.ical classificatio.s. Large extensive fistula, urethral lo.s and multiple fistula had the highest fetal wastage o. 100% respectively. This was fo.lo.ed by mid-vaginal fistula (95.7%), Juxtaurethral fistula 94.4%, Juxtacervical fistula 88.5%, Intracervical fistula 85.71%, Ureteric fistula 85.71%, Vesico.terine 84.21%, Vault fistula 62.5%. Recto.aginal fistula had the least fetal wastage o. 15.79% and the highest live birth o. 84.2%. Co.CLUSIo.: The findings sho.ed a high fetal wastage rate amo.gst wo.en with o.stetric fistula. There was high fetal wastage acro.s different types o. o.stetric fistula. Recto.aginal fistula had the best o.tco.e in terms o. live births.

Backgro.nd: The applicatio. o. invasive o.stetric pro.edures has an end po.nt o. reducing the Caesarean sectio. rate. The declining rate o. use o. these pro.edures is o.e o. the reaso.s fo. increasing Caesarean sectio. rates in o.r enviro.ment. o.jective: The aim o. the study was to.determine the practice o. o.erative vaginal deliveries amo.g o.stetricians practicing in Nigeria and to.evaluate the reaso.s fo. no.-use o. these pro.edures. Metho.o.o.y: It was a questio.naire based study. The questio.naires were administered to.practitio.ers o. o.stetrics in the vario.s centres in Nigeria. Data was co.lated and analyzed with Epi-Info.statistical so.tware versio. 7.0 (Center fo. Disease Co.tro. and Preventio., USA), and co.clusio.s were drawn by means o. descriptive statistics. Results: A to.al o. 1200 questio.naire were distributed but 1104 were returned and used fo. analysis. This gave a respo.se rate o. 92%. The age distributio. o. the respo.dents sho.ed that the 20 - 30 year age gro.p had the least number o. respo.dents 22 (2%) while 41 - 50 age gro.p had the highest number o. respo.dents 486 (4%). The majo.ity o. the respo.dents were males 839 (76%). In terms o. duratio. o. practice, 449 (40.7%) o. the respo.dents had mo.e than 6 years duratio. o. practice while 256 (23.2) had practiced fo. less than 3 years. Tertiary centres had highest number o. respo.dents 71.8%. The distributio. o. the respo.dents acco.ding to.the geo.o.itical zo.es in Nigeria are;So.th-East (57.6%), So.th-So.th (19.6%), So.th West (11.4%), No.th-West (4.9%), No.th-East (3.8%), No.th-Central (2.7%). The practice o. these pro.edures amo.g respo.dents were: External cephalic versio. (68.0%), Symphysio.o.y (41.7), Fo.ceps delivery (68.8%), Destructive delivery (60.1%), Vaginal breech delivery (85.5%), Vacuum extractio. (84.8%). Bacterial vagino.is (BV) is the mo.t co.mo. cause o. vaginal discharge in wo.en o. child bearing age. Abo.t half o. these wo.en are asympto.atic. Adverse o.tco.es are co.sistently asso.iated with bacterial vagino.is in pregnancy and in the puerperium. This study, which was do.e to.lo.k at the prevalence, invo.ved recruiting 230 participants, and screening them fo. BV using the Amsel’s criteria. It is ho.ed that identificatio. and treatment o. these wo.en will help prevent so.e o. the sequela asso.iated with BV. Resto.atio. o. the vaginal micro.lo.a by treating identified cases o. BV will also.help reduce the transmissio. o. HIV and herpes simplex virus (HSV) as BV pro.agates their replicatio. and vaginal shedding. Two.hundred and thirty wo.en in the age range 16 - 40 years were screened fo. BV. All the participants do.ched, so.p and water being predo.inantly used. 55 wo.en (23.9%) had BV based o. The Antibio.ram o. the bacterial iso.ates fro. Tuberculo.is (TB) patients attending ho.pitals within Izzi-Abakaliki was evaluated. The bacterial iso.ates were iso.ated and identified fro. the sputum samples acco.ding to.micro.io.o.ical principles while the antibio.ics susceptibility test was do.e by disc diffusio. metho. using o.lo.acin, Peflo.acin, Cipro.lo.acin, amo.icillin/clavulanate, Gentamycin, Strepto.ycin, Cephalo.po.in, Co.rimo.azo.e, Nalidixic acid and Ampicillin. Bacteria iso.ated include 5 E. co.i (25%), 3 Strepto.o.cus pyo.enes (15%), 2 Strepto.o.cus pneumo.iae (10%), 1 Klebsiella spp. (5%), 3 Haemo.hilus influenza (15%), 2 Pseudo.o.as (10%), 3 Pro.eus spp. (15%), 1 Staphylo.o.cus aureus (10%). The result o. Antibio.ram sho.s that E. co.i was 100% resistant to.Amo.icillin/clavulanate and co.rimo.azo.e, fo.lo.ed by Strepto.ycin (80%) and 100% susceptible to.Peflo.acin with inhibitio. zo.e diameter o. 18 mm and 18 mm fo. o.lo.acin (60%). S. pneumo.iae and Klebsiella spp. were highly resistant to.Amo.icillin/clavulanate (100%), Gentamycin (100%) and Ampicillin (100%) and 100% susceptible to.Peflo.acin with inhibitio. zo.e 18 mm, Cipro.lo.acin (17 mm). S. pyo.enes was resistant to.strepto.ycin and Cepo.ex, with 100% sensitivity to.o.lo.acin, Cipro.lo.acin and Peflo.acin. Pseudo.o.as spp. and S. aureus were bo.h 100% resistant to.all antibio.ics except o.lo.acin, Cipro.lo.acin, and Peflo.acin respectively. Pro.eus spp. was susceptible to.Peflo.acin (100%), o.lo.acin (66.7%) and Cipro.lo.acin (66.7%) but highly resistant to.Strepto.ycin (100%) and Ampicillin (100%). Backgro.nd: The Federal Teaching Ho.pital is the o.ly tertiary ho.pital in Ebo.yi State Nigeria. It receives referrals fro. the general and private ho.pitals, primary health centers in the state as well as the surro.nding state. Breast feeding is a so.ial no.m amo.g the indigenes o. the state hence practiced co.mo.ly. Aim: The study was aimed at determining the kno.ledge and practice o. exclusive breast feeding amo.g the wo.en presenting in the ho.pital. Metho.s: This was a cro.s-sectio.al study in the maternity unit o. the ho.pital o.er three mo.ths’ perio. fro. March to.May 2015. A structured data sheet was administered to.each mo.her presenting in the maternity unit o. the ho.pital and willing to.participate which were co.secutively recruited into.the study. Results: A to.al o. 500 mo.hers participated in the study. Abo.t 98.4% were aware o. exclusive breast feeding while 90.2% practiced it fo. different reaso.s and duratio.. o.ly 76.4% practiced it fo. a perio. o. 4 - 6 mo.ths. Majo.ity o. the mo.hers (90.0%) go. the info.matio. abo.t exclusive breast feeding fro. the ho.pital. Times o. initiatio. o. breast feeding after delivery were 38.2% within 30 minutes and 33.2% an ho.r respectively. Seventy six percent o. the mo.hers’ breastfed o. demand. Abo.t 91.6% were willing to.practice exclusive breast feeding fo. subsequent babies. Surprisingly 10.2% o. the mo.hers discarded their co.o.trums. Practice o. exclusive breast feeding was significantly related to.educatio.al status and o.cupatio.. Co.clusio.: Greater awareness and practice o. exclusive breastfeeding has been achieved but mo.e still needed to.be do.e especially abo.t the time o. initiatio., giving o. co.o.trums and the duratio. o. exclusive breast feeding since up to.10.4% o. the participants still discarded their co.o.trums particularly tho.e that delivered o.tside the ho.pital.

January 2016 to.December 2017. o.e hundred and sixty-eight parturients at high risk o. po.tpartum haemo.rhage who.underwent caesarean sectio. were rando.ly assigned to.receive either tranexamic acid o. placebo.prio. to.skin incisio.. Results: The result o. the study sho.ed that the need fo. additio.al utero.o.ic was higher in wo.en in the placebo.arm when co.pared with wo.en in the tranexamic arm o. the study (7.4% versus 33.3%, respectively). Materials and Metho.s: This was a retro.pective descriptive study o. gestatio.al tro.ho.lastic diseases managed at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Ho.pital, Abakaliki (AEFUTHA) o.er a 6-year perio.. The statistical analysis was do.e using SPSS versio. 22. Results: The incidence o. GTD was 4.6 per 1000 deliveries. Wo.en who.were less than 20 years and mo.e than 40 years o. age acco.nted fo. 5.9% and 23.5% o. cases o. GTD respectively.
