Efect of early feeding practices and eating behaviors on body composition in primary school children

Background Understanding children’s feeding practices and eating behaviors is important to determine etiology of childhood *** study aimed to explore the relationship between early feeding practices,eating behavior and body composition among primary school *** The data were collected from 403 primary school *** were administered structured questionnaire,including sociodemographic characteristics,early feeding practices and Child’s Eating Behavior *** and blood pressure(BP)measurements were *** Children with obesity and overweight showed higher food approach subscales and lower food avoidance subscales compared to a healthy and underweight *** who were exclusively or predominantly breast fed during the frst 6 months had the lowest scores for the food approach subscales,food responsiveness(FR)and emotional overeating(EOE)and had the highest scores for the food avoidance subscales,satiety responsiveness(SR)and emotional under eating(EUE).Children who were introduced solid food after 6 months showed lower scores for FR,enjoyment of food and EOE but scored highest for SR,slowness in eating(SE)and *** anthropometric measurements were positively correlated with all food approach subscales and negatively with SE,SR and food *** food approach subscales were positively correlated with BP *** food avoidance subscales were negatively correlated with both BP percentiles,except for EUE,which was negatively correlated with diastolic BP percentile ***,SR,SE and FR were predictors for child body mass *** Early feeding practices and eating behavior are considered as prevention approaches for obesity.

Drought stress has become more common in recent years as a result of climate change impacts on the production of banana crops and other fruit *** growth and productivity of Musa spp are severely impacted by the gradual degradation of water resources and the erratic distribution pattern of annual precipitation *** aim of the work includes increased drought tolerance in light of water scarcity in the world as a result of the bananas’being gluttonous for water *** investigation was carried out from 2019 to 2020 to study the effect of potassium silicate on morphological growth and biochemical parameters of Musa acuminata L under drought stress by *** a result,drought stress reduced the morphological characteristics such as shoots number,shoot length,roots number,and survival percentage and biochemical characteristics such as chlorophyll a,b,carotenoids,stomatal status,and *** proline content increased in the leaf of *** *** complemented with K2SiO3(2 to 6 mM)either individually or in combination with PEG led to an improvement in all morphological and biochemical *** activities of CAT,POD,and PPO enzymes increased significantly compared to ***,the lowest PPO,CAT,and POD activity were ***,K2SiO3 treatments under drought stress successfully enhanced the leaf stomatal *** results suggest that K2SiO3 can help to maintain plant integrity in the tested cultivar under drought stress.

I-131 MIBG Therapy for Advanced Stage III &IV Neuroblastoma

Radio-labelled MIBG therapy has been tried in the treatment of advanced stage III and IV neuroblastoma in an attempt to improve patients outcome. The use of radiolabelled MIBG to treat neuroblastoma has arisen from the high sensitivity and specificity of in vivo MIBG imaging for detection of primary and metastatic tumours. Although, clinical trials have been performed to determine the role of MIBG therapy, the overall therapeutic strategy of MIBG therapy is not precisely defined. Aim of the work: to determine the impact of MIBG therapy on patients’ outcome especially their quality of life. Patients & methods: 42 paediatri neuroblastoma patients are included in this study, 12 (28.5%) stage III disease and 30 (71.5%) stage IV. I-131 MIBG doses ranged from 100 to 150 mCi with number of courses ranged from 1-8 according to response and toxicity. Results: Group I (stage III): 1/12 patients showed complete response, 5/12 patients had partial response and the other 6 patients remained stable. The 5 years event free survival (EFS) of stage III patients was 46.6% and the overall survival was 75%. Group II (stage IV): 2/30 patients achieved CR, 9/30 patients showed PR to I-131 MIBG and the other 18 remained stable. The 5 years event free survival (EFS) of stage IV patients was 48.2% and the overall survival was 69%. Conclusion: We conclude that 131I-MIBG therapy has favourable therapeutic effects that are translated into an overall improved outcome with good quality of life.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Solar Chimney Power Plant’s Turbine

The solar chimney power plant is a relatively new electricity generation concept, based on renewable energy, combining the greenhouse effect with the chimney suction. The solar chimney powerplant consists of three parts, the solar collector, the chimney and the turbine generator unit, of which the study was focused on the later part. To evaluate the turbine performance inside the solar chimney powerplant, experimental system was constructed in Aswan, Egypt that has a metrological site (23°58'N and 32°47'E) occurs. The system was constructed to evaluate the performance of the solar chimney turbine and power generation characteristic in the hottest site where Aswan is located at the nearest of the Tropic of Cancer at the summer season. Velocity, electric power generation and the turbine efficiency are studying in this work. The numerical analyses were performed by using a commercial code CFX, ANSYS 16.1 to simulate the flow through the turbine and overall system. The study shows that the range of power generated (1.2 W - 4.4 W). It can be estimated, according to the results, the variation trend in pressure drops with the turbine rotation speed increase with small differences when the turbine rotation speed surpasses 1800 rpm with average efficiency of 57%. It is concluded that the theoretical model is basically valid for the system under study, and the CFD simulation can be used conveniently to predict the performance of the system, the comparison between them and experimental result shows a good agreement.

Performance Investigation of the Solar Chimney Power Plants Heater Case Study in Aswan, Egypt

Solar collector is a thermal device that uses the heated air in the power generation and many engineering applications. The purpose of the present work is to study the performance and temperature distribution for the solar collector which uses heated air in solar chimney power generation that it consist of three parts, a turbine-generator unit which is used in the generation of electric energy, and cylindrical chimney is fixed vertically and finally a solar collector under the climatic conditions of Egypt-Aswan is studied. This site is specified as the hottest site because the nearest of this location from the Tropic of cancer. Experiments are performed in ten summer days of May and June 2015 with different solar radiations and clarity of the sky. Hourly values of global solar radiation and some meteorological data (temperature, pressure, velocity, etc.) for measuring days are obtained by measuring devices. Inlet and outlet temperatures of air from a solar collector and velocity at junction region. In this work, attempt has been made to present the effect of environmental factors such as ambient temperature, the clarity of the sky and solar radiation on the performance of solar collector. The temperature of the base and the cover of the solar collector, the variation of solar radiation, solar collector efficiency, heat transfer coefficient, the velocity at the junction region between the chimney base, the outlet of the solar collector and temperature distribution along the air heater are discussed. A prediction for the results of the solar collector were performed by using developed theoretical model was made by this study which is based on the previous works. The numerical study has used a commercial code CFX, ANSYS 16.1 to simulate the flow through the collector. Eosinophilic esophagitis in Egyptian adult patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal symptoms

Background and Study Aim: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a clinicopathological disease characterized by esophageal dysfunction and marked esophageal eosinophilic infiltration. It shows a marked increase in incidence and prevalence and has been associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The aim of this work was to detect the prevalence of EoE in Egyptian adult patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal symptoms and to clarify its clinical pattern and the possibility of its overlap with GERD. Patients and Methods: The study included 91 adult patients presenting with various upper gastrointestinal symptoms. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was done and esophageal biopsies were taken. The presence of >15 eosinophils per high power field together with a history of intake of proton pump inhibitors for at least 3 weeks without improvement was used as prerequisite diagnostic criteria for EoE. Results: Classification of the patients was based on both endoscopic and histo-pathological findings. Accordingly, out of the 91 patients, 70 had GERD (76.9%);58 of them had erosive reflux disease (ERD) and 12 had endoscopically normal esophagus but with histopathological changes compatible with reflux esophagitis and were classified as non erosive reflux disease (NERD). Eighteen patients had normal endoscopic and histopathological esophagus (19.8%), and 3 patients had EoE (3.3%), with an overlap between ERD and EoE in one patient. The mean age of EoE patients was 41.6 ± 11.7 years. Two of them were males and one was a female. All of the 3 patients complained of dysphagia and none complained of heartburn. The endoscopists did not report any endoscopic findings characteristic of EoE. Conclusion: The prevalence of EoE is low in adult Egyptian patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal symptoms. Dysphagia is the main presenting symptom of EoE while heartburn is not characteristic of the disease. Normal esophagus endoscopically does not exclude EoE.

Intraoral microscopic-assisted sialolithotomy for management of medium-large submandibular sialolithiasis: A refined technique

Objectives: Sialendoscopy has become the standard treatment for sialolithiasis; however, larger submandibular calculi may require an incisional technique. This study describes and evaluates an intraoral microscopic-assisted sialolithotomy (IMAS) as a refined submandibular stone extraction ***: Retrospective case series of 64 submandibular IMAS procedures operated at a tertiary university center and private hospital from 2015 to 2021 were evaluated. Preoperative radiological assessment included noncontrast computed tomography scan ± magnetic resonance sialography. Stone characteristics (side, number, size, and location), operative findings, complications, and postoperative follow-up were reviewed. Success was defined as successful intraoral stone extraction with no symptoms or stone recurrence for at least 12 months ***: The study included 43 males and 19 females, mean age 38 ± 12 years. Two patients had bilateral stones. All but one operated gland had stones extracted (98.4%), however the true success was 93.8% (60/64) as three patients had recurrent/residual stones within a year. Biggest stone longest diameter was 9.8 ± 4.6 mm (range, 5-30 mm). Hilar and intraglandular stone locations were 73.4% and 6.3%, respectively. Median operative time was 55 min. Adjunctive sialendoscopy was performed in 42.2%. Its use is significantly correlated with having >3 stones (mean 3.4 vs. 1.2 stones) [P < 0.001, 95% confidence interval: -3.19 to -1.25]. Minor complications included temporary lingual paresthesia (7.8%) and postoperative ranula (1.6%).Conclusions: Submandibular IMAS is a highly effective safe technique for stones (≥5 mm). The improved microscopic visualization, illumination and magnification allows addressing all stone locations including intraglandular calculi and enables better lingual nerve identification and preservation.
