Mountainous regions have disadvantages in economic development because of harsh physical and climatic conditions.However,winter tourism activities are one of the key components for supporting economic development in the highlands.Establishing a ski resort area supports direct and indirect employment in a region,and it stops immigration from mountainous regions to other places.This research aimed to assess the potential ski areas using a multi criteria evaluation technique in the Van region which is located in the eastern part of Türkiye.In this context,snow cover duration,sun effect,slope,slope length,elevation,population density,distance from main roads and lake visibility were used as input factors in the decision making process.Each factor was standardized using a fuzzy technique based on existing well-known ski centers in Türkiye.The weight of inputs was defined by applying a survey to the professional skiers.The most important factors were detected as transportation opportunities and snow covers whereas,the least important factors were elevation and population density.Additionally,lake visibility was very important to make a difference from other existing facilities in the region.Therefore,it was included as constraints and lake visible areas were extracted at the final stage of the research.Potential ski areas were mapped in three levels as professional,intermediate and beginner skiers.One of the suitable areas was selected as a sample projection and for the 3D simulation of the ski investment area.Potential costs and benefits were discussed.It was found that a ski tourism area investment can be amortized in 3 years in the region.

The use of fog computing in the Internet of Things(IoT)has emerged as a crucial solution,bringing cloud services closer to end users to process large amounts of data generated within the system.Despite its advantages,the increasing task demands from IoT objects often overload fog devices with limited resources,resulting in system delays,high network usage,and increased energy consumption.One of the major challenges in fog computing for IoT applications is the efficient deployment of services between fog clouds.To address this challenge,we propose a novel Optimal Foraging Algorithm(OFA)for task placement on appropriate fog devices,taking into account the limited resources of each fog node.The OFA algorithm optimizes task sharing between fog devices by evaluating incoming task requests based on their types and allocating the services to the most suitable fog nodes.In our study,we compare the performance of the OFA algorithm with two other popular algorithms:Genetic Algorithm(GA)and Randomized Search Algorithm(RA).Through extensive simulation experiments,our findings demonstrate significant improvements achieved by the OFA algorithm.Specifically,it leads to up to 39.06%reduction in energy consumption for the Elektroensefalografi(EEG)application,up to 25.86%decrease in CPU utilization for the Intelligent surveillance through distributed camera networks(DCNS)application,up to 57.94%reduction in network utilization,and up to 23.83%improvement in runtime,outperforming other algorithms.As a result,the proposed OFA algorithm enhances the system’s efficiency by effectively allocating incoming task requests to the appropriate fog devices,mitigating the challenges posed by resource limitations and contributing to a more optimized IoT ecosystem.

This study predicts the cash holdings policy of Turkish firms,given the 20 selected features with machine learning algorithm methods.211 listed firms in the Borsa Istanbul are analyzed over the period between 2006 and 2019.Multiple linear regression(MLR),k-nearest neighbors(KNN),support vector regression(SVR),decision trees(DT),extreme gradient boosting algorithm(XGBoost)and multi-layer neural networks(MLNN)are used for prediction.Results reveal that MLR,KNN,and SVR provide high root mean square error(RMSE)and low R2 values.Meanwhile,more complex algorithms,such as DT and especially XGBoost,derive higher accuracy with a 0.73 R 2 value.Therefore,using advanced machine learning algorithms,we may predict cash holdings considerably.

为探究城市建筑拆除固废再生骨料部分或全部取代天然骨料用于粗粒土路基填料的可行性,开展不同再生骨料取代率、含水率、围压和剪应力比等组合下的室内大型静动三轴试验,定量研究土性参数和应力状态对试样抗剪强度和累积塑性应变特性的影响规律。基于半对数坐标下累积塑性应变发展的多阶段特征,分别考虑不同阶段塑性变形累积速率以及相邻两阶段的塑性变形累积速率的差异,提出适用于建筑固废再生骨料路基填料的新型安定行为判定准则。研究结果表明:再生骨料路基填料试样的累积塑性应变随含水率和剪应力比的增大而增大,当再生骨料路基填料试样在剪应力比为0.3和0.5时,抗累积变形性能与天然骨料路基填料试验所得的抗累积变形性能接近,综合考虑抗剪强度和累积塑性变形特性的再生骨料路基填料最优取代率为85%;新安定行为判定准则具有较高的准确性,可为相似路基填料的长期路用性能评定提供理论依据。

Ensemble and optimized hybrid algorithms through Runge Kutta optimizer for sewer sediment transport modeling using a data pre-processing approach

Uncontrolled sediment deposition in drainage and sewer systems raises unexpected maintenance expenditures.To this end,implementation of an accurate model relying on effective parameters involved is a reliable benchmark.In this study,three machine learning techniques,namely extreme learning machine(ELM),multilayer perceptron neural network(MLPNN),and M5P model tree(M5PMT);and three optimization approaches of Runge Kutta(RUN),genetic algorithm(GA),and particle swarm optimization(PSO) are applied for modeling.The optimization and ensemble hybridization approaches are applied in the modeling procedure.For the case of hybrid optimized models,the ELM and MLPNN models are hybridized with RUN,GA,and PSO algorithms to develop six hybrid models of ELM-RUN,ELM-GA,ELMPSO,MLPNN-RUN,MLPNN-GA,and MLPNN-PSO.Ensemble hybrid models are developed through coupling the ELM and MLPNN models with the M5PMT algorithm.The data pre-processing approach is applied to find the best randomness characteristic of the utilized data.Results illustrate that the RUNbased hybrid models outperform the GA-and PSO-based counterparts.Although the MLPNN-RUN and MLPNN-M5PMT hybrid models generate better results than their alternatives,MLPNN-M5PMT slightly outperforms MLPNN-RUN model with a coefficient of determination of 0.84 and a root mean square error of 0.88.The current study shows the superiority of the ensemble-based approach to the optimization techniques.Further investigation is needed by considering alternative optimization techniques to enhance sediment transport modeling.

Optimization of drill bit replacement time in open-cast coal mines

To gain a competitive edge within the international and compet让ive setting of coal markets, coal producers must find new ways of reducing costs. Increasing bench drilling efficiency and performance in open-cast coal mines has the potential to generate savings. Specifically, monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the drilling operation can reduce drilling costs. For example, determining the optimal drill bit replacement time will help to achieve the desirable penetration rate. This paper presents a life data analysis of drill bits to fit a statistical distribution using failure records. These results are then used to formulate a cost minimization problem to estimate the drill bit replacement time using the evolutionary algorithm. The effect of cost on the uncertainty associated with replacement time is assessed through Monte-Carlo simulation. The relationship between the total expected replacement cost and replacement time is also presented. A case study shows that the proposed approach can be used to assist with designing a drill bit replacement schedule and minimize costs in open-cast coal mines.

Multi-strain probiotics provide the most dependable approaches to improve health,immune response,and disease resistance in farmed fishes.In the present study,we examined the effects of multi-species probiotics on the survival,growth,immune response,and disease resistance of rohu(Labeo rohita)larvae.Newly hatched larvae from the day of first feeding(average weight of 0.003 g)were reared with multi-species probiotics having a combination of Bacillus subtilis(109 colony forming units(cfu)/mL)and Lactobacillus spp.(Lactobacillus plantarum,Lactobacillus buchneri-1011 cfu/mL)in water containing doses of 0(control-C),0.5 mL/L(treatment 1-T1),and 1.0 mL/L(treatment 2-T2)in triplicates for 90 days.After the experiment,a challenge test was performed to assess the fish's resistance to pathogenic Aeromonas veronii.Significantly higher survival was recorded in larvae of treated groups(87%in T2 and 79%in T1)compared to the control(62%).Significantly higher growth performance(weight gain and specific growth rate—SGR)was shown by the probiotic-treated larval groups compared to the control.Probiotic supplementation resulted in significantly higher counts of total viable colony(TVC)and lactic acid bacteria(LAB)in the intestine.Some immunological parameters(mucosal fold fattening,goblet cell abundance,expansion of lamina propria and enterocytes)of the gut were significantly better in probiotic-treated fish.The liver of treated fish showed irregular shape nuclei turning into regular shape and reducing spaces between the hepatic cells.Probiotic-treated fish had the highest post-challenge survival rate(90%)against A.veronii infection.The erythrocytes of challenged fish treated with probiotics had significantly lower frequencies of various nuclear and cellular abnormalities.These findings suggest that multi-species probiotic supplements could improve the survival,growth,health status,and immune response of rohu in the early stages of its development.

Do PON1-Q192R and PON1-L55M polymorphisms modify the effects of hypoxic training on paraoxonase and arylesterase activity?

Background:Low levels of antioxidant paraoxonase 1(PON 1)enzyme activity,PON1-Q192R polymorphism(a glutamine(Q)to arginine(R)substitution at position 192),PON1-L55M polymorphism(a leucine(L)to methionine(M)substitution at position 55),and oxidized low-density lipoprotein(oxLDL)are risk factors for coronary heart disease.Aerobic exercise improves PON1 activity,but the effects of hypoxic exercise are yet unclear.The aim of this study was to determine the effects of hypoxic underwater rugby training on PON1 activity and oxLDL levels and the role of the mentioned polymorphisms.Methods:Serum PON1 and arylesterase activities(ARE),PON1,PON3,and oxLDL protein levels(by using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays)were determined in an athletic group(42 trained male underwater rugby players;age=21.7±4.2 years,mean±SD)and a control group(43 sedentary men;age=23.9±3.2 years).The polymorphisms were determined from genomic DNA samples.Results:PON1 activity(25.1%,p=0.052),PON3(p<0.001),and oxLDL(p<0.001)of the athletic group,including most genotype groups,were higher than those of the control group.In comparison to the controls,PON1 activity levels(p=0.005)of the PON1-Q192R homozygote QQ genotype group and PON1 activity levels(30%,p=0.116)of the PON1-L55M homozygote LL genotype group were higher,whereas ARE activity values of athletic R allele carrier(Rc=QR+RR)(p=0.005)and LL group(p=0.002)were lower than the control genotype groups related to their polymorphisms.Conclusion:Hypoxic training can cause(1)significant oxidative stress,including oxLDL,and an antioxidant response(increase in PON1 activity and PON3),(2)differences in the activity of PON1 and ARE,which are modified by PON1-Q192R and PON1-L55M polymorphisms,respectively,and(3)improvements in PON1 activity of QQ and LL groups.However,hypoxic training can cause a disadvantage of LL and Rc groups for ARE.

Tors are mound-like rock landforms,resistant to erosion,that may sometimes reach the size of several storeys of house by volume.They may develop in different climate regions and different rock types,led by granitic rocks.In this study,tors developed in granitic rocks around Yaylal?village linked to Kürtün county in Gümü?hane were investigated.The study area is located in the eastern part of the Giresun mountain range in northeastern Turkey,2000-2300 m above sea level.The aim of the study is to determine the natural environmental characteristics in tor formation and to reveal the effect of bedrock on tor formation.During field studies,18 tors were selected by noting location,size and structural features,and dimensions were measured.Thin sections were first made from the rock samples taken from the tors and then the mineralogical composition was investigated by modal analysis method.As a result of this analysis,it was determined that the bedrock forming the tors is granite.During the field observations,it was determined that the intersecting vertical joints supported the formation of castle-like tors,while the horizontal joints supported the formation of pita pileshaped tors.There are also pseudokarstic shapes resembling kamenitza and karst pavement.In conclusion,joint sets causing local resistance differences directed the formation of tors,while excess slope affected surface erosion and suitability of climate conditions-controlled weathering rate.
