During the last few years, condensed thienopyrimidine derivatives have received considerable attention. the therapeutic importance of thienopyrimidines prompted us to synthesize some of spiro(benzothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-4-one) derivatives. Some of the novel benzothino-pyrimidine derivatives 3a, 9b, 10b, 11a, 11b, and 11c showed considerable potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of superior G.I.t. safety profile in experimental rats in comparing to indomethacin and tramadol as reference drugs.

Urban areas house vegetation cover in several forms, fulfilling several ecological functions like thermal regulator, biodiversity, air quality, etc. However, their extent is often not very well known, especially in African cities, making it sometimes difficult to assess their real impact on the urban ecosystem functioning. this work aims to analyse the capacity of satellite sensors for mapping vegetation and wetlands in urban areas. the data produced by the MSI sensors of Sentinel 2 and OLI of Landsat-8 are used to identify and map the vegetation cover in the Dakar region through a supervised classification with the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm. the results show that it is sometimes not very easy to analyse urban vegetation with high spatial resolution images (HRS) resulting from the configuration of the vegetation in an urban environment, sometimes characterized by isolated trees or small green spaces. this explains why Sentinel-2 data which spatial resolution of 10 meters gives a better result compared to Landsat-8 data which is 30 meters. However, a good rendering is noted for the vegetation around the wetlands area for the two sensors resulting from the high density and the size of the vegetated perimeters in this part of the capital. Overall, there is an underestimation of urban vegetation cover, particularly for Landsat-8. the use of very high spatial resolution images could be necessary to better assess the potential of satellite data for monitoring urban vegetation in Sahelian context.

We present a case of a 33-year-old female who sustained multiple injuries of her spine, including spinous process fractures of C5 to C7 and a lamina fracture of C6 and C7. Her thoracic spine showed transverse process fractures of t4 to t10, a compression fracture and lamina fracture of t3, spinous process and transverse process fractures of t4 and t5, a rotation injury of t6, as well as a compression fracture of L1. thirteen months after posterior thoracic spinal instrumentation, a pedicle screw was suspected to be in contact with the aorta, which was proved by computed tomography angiograms. Consequently, implant removal was planned with direct exposure of the aorta in order to allow for immediate repair if needed. So far, studies that compare different techniques to remove pedicle screws that are suspected to penetrate the aorta are missing. However, different techniques have been described in case reports, mainly minimally invasive endovascular techniques vs open techniques such as thoracotomy.

the effects of Mg content on the microstructure and tensile properties of thixoformed A319 alloys were studied. the samples were thixoformed at 50% liquid content and some of the thixoformed samples were subjected to the t6 heat treatment. the samples were then examined by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis as well as tensile tests. the results showed that magnesium was able to refine the eutectic silicon in the samples. It was also observed that a compact Al9FeMg3Si5 phase was formed when the magnesium content was 1.0% and 1.5%. the results also revealed that as the magnesium content in the alloy increases, the tensile strengths of the thixoformed alloys also increase. the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation to fracture of the thixoformed A319 heat treated alloy were 298 MPa, 201 MPa and 4.5%, respectively, whereas the values of the thixoformed heat treated alloy with 1.5% Mg content were 325 MPa, 251 MPa and 1.4%, respectively. thixoformed A319 alloy showed a dimple fracture behaviour, while thixoformed A319 alloys with 1.5% Mg showed a mixed mode fracture behaviour, where dimple and cleavage ruptures were seen on the fracture surface of the samples.

Aim:High-grade glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)has a poor median overall survival(OS).the standard treatment after surgery is temozolomide and radiotherapy(RtH).Patients with unmethylated methylguanine-methyltransferase promoter(MGMt)have no or little benefit from temozolomide and are eligible for alternative *** is a good *** aimed to evaluate the combination of gemcitabine with RtH in newly diagnosed ***:the study was a prospective phase II *** patients were required to have histologically proven anaplastic astrocytoma or *** underwent biopsies or subtotal *** treatment consisted of fixed-dose rate gemcitabine 175 mg/m^(2) weekly followed after 24 h by standard cranial RtH for 6 *** response was evaluated by Macdonald *** case of progression,patients received temozolomide(200 mg/m^(2)/5 days every 28 days).Results:t hirty patients w ith a median age of 52 years(30-69),73%/27%m ale/female,t he Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 1(range 0-2)were *** patients had a partial-response(17%)and 13 stable-disease(43%).Median time to progression was 7.88 months(95%CI 6.1-9.69)and OS was 11.77 months(95%CI 9.97-13.56).the treatment was well tolerated with grade-3 neutropenia in 3,grade-3 anemia in 2 and impaired liver enzymes in 1 ***:Gemcitabine followed by radiotherapy is active and promising regimen in newly diagnosed *** uptake is easy,with a long local retention of active metabolites,precluding systemic side effects of *** a phase III study this treatment should be evaluated in patients with unmethylated MGMt promoter who will not benefit from temozolomide.

Our findings demonstrate that the near-infrared emission intensity and singlet oxygen（1 O2） quantum yields of YbDD and GdDD in water are higher than those of the reported capped lanthanide monoporphyrinato analogues, YbN and GdN;the brightness and luminescence lifetime in water of YbDD are greater than those of YbN. this work provides a new dimension for the future design and development of molecular theranostics-based water-soluble double-decker lanthanide bisporphyrinates.[2]

Background and aimsCigarette pack warning labels, especially stronger ones, stimulate quitting-related activity. this study aimed to extend understanding of impact of pack warning changes in Malaysia and thailand, focussing on the 2009 introduction of graphic warnings in Malaysia. In particular, we aimed to:(1) compare the differences in pack warning reactions of smokers within and between these two developing countries over time,(2) examine if warning reactions predict subsequent quitting activities, and(3) examine possible wear-out effects of pack warnings in these two countries. Methods Data came from 6 waves of the International tobacco Control Southeast Asia(the ItC SEA) Survey, a prospective cohort survey conducted among adult smokers in Malaysia and thailand between 2005 and 2013. Between 4706 and 4422 smokers were interviewed at each survey wave. Key measures included salience of cigarette pack warnings, cognitive responses, forgoing cigarettes and avoiding warnings. the outcome measure in predictive analysis was quit attempts between survey *** During the first three survey waves(2005-2008), reaction levels were significantly lower in Malaysia than in thailand except for forgoing cigarettes at Wave 1. However, at Wave 4(shortly after the implementation of graphic warnings) the reaction levels among Malaysia smokers considerably increased from that of early waves;and for some measures the levels reached as high as that of thailand. Compared to the early waves, the warning salience and cognitive reaction levels in Malaysia remained higher at Wave 5. But overall, in Malaysia wear-out of warnings was greater –by Wave 6, most of the reported reaction levels were no longer significantly higher than that of the baseline wave. In contrast, overall, the reaction levels of post-graphic warning waves were higher than those at the baseline wave in *** thailand, Wave 3 warning reactions were predictive of subsequent quit attempts in bivariate analysis

Soil erosion models can be understood as a virtual laboratory that brings together data, observations and knowledge from different fields for sustainable environmental management. the present study was carried out on Sebeya catchment which is located in the Western Province of Rwanda. the main objective of this study was to develop a Universal Soil Loss Equation type of erosion model to be used in predicting soil loss and associated crop yields for sustainable agriculture management in Sebeya catchment at the level of parcels. USLE parameters were determined on each parcel in Sebeya catchment using map overlapping techniques as applied in Geographical Information System (GIS). Applying a combination of 0, 1, 2 and 3 soil erosion control measures on each of 259,673 parcels, the simulated annual soil loss for Sebeya catchment was 849.94;143.27;88.64 and 28.59 t/ha/yr respectively. Soil Loss and Crop Yield (SOLCY) model has been developed to predict soil loss and crop yields for each main cultivated crop in Sebeya catchment. A combination of 3 soil erosion control measures such as (bench terrace + mulching + drainage channels) has been found to be the most effective in reducing soil erosion on each parcel with slope range of (16 - 60)%. Farmers and agriculture technicians can use SOLCY model. Finally, researchers should develop similar models on other catchments based on SOLCY model design concept.
