Spinal cord injury(SCI)is a devastating and disabling medical condition generally caused by a traumatic event(primary injury).This initial trauma is accompanied by a set of biological mechanisms directed to ameliorate neural damage but also exacerbate initial damage(secondary injury).The alterations that occur in the spinal cord have not only local but also systemic consequences and virtually all organs and tissues of the body incur important changes after SCI,explaining the progression and detrimental consequences related to this condition.Psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology(PNIE)is a growing area of research aiming to integrate and explore the interactions among the different systems that compose the human organism,considering the mind and the body as a whole.The initial traumatic event and the consequent neurological disruption trigger immune,endocrine,and multisystem dysfunction,which in turn affect the patient's psyche and well-being.In the present review,we will explore the most important local and systemic consequences of SCI from a PNIE perspective,defining the changes occurring in each system and how all these mechanisms are interconnected.Finally,potential clinical approaches derived from this knowledge will also be collectively presented with the aim to develop integrative therapies to maximize the clinical management of these patients.

＜正＞The dominantly inherited spinocerebellar ataxias（SCA） are a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of neurodegenerative disorders characterized by progressive imbalance,dysarthria and motor incoordination.Etiologically distinct SCA subtypes can only be distinguished consistently by genetic analysis.We identified a five-generation kindred of french ancestry inherited as an autosomal dominant trait that is associated with a novel form of progressive ataxia and cognitive impairment,in which all affected males are infertile.The disorder is inherited only from affected or presymptomatic females.The affected individuals including 9 females and 11 males,particularly females,have a broad range of age of onset, which is significantly much later than male patients.Detailed neuropsychological evaluations demonstrated cognitive impairment with borderline IQ scores for those with onset of ataxia before 40 years age.Brain magnetic resonance imaging demonstrates cerebellar atrophy.Affected males had testicular atrophy and azoospermia.Testicular biopsy from one sterile male demonstrated complete absence of germ cells and progenitors.After exclusion of mutations in or linkage to known SCA loci and genes,fragile X,X-linkage,Y-chromosome microdeletion,we carried out a genome-wide genetic linkage scan and located the disease locus to chromosome 7q32.3 by two-point analysis（a maximal two-point LOD score of 3.59,9=0） and haplotype-based analysis.Sequencing of one candidate disease-causing gene（transiently secret） within the region using a recombinant DNA sequencing approach including TA clone method,which carried（ATTCT）n pentanucleotide repeat units in intron 31,revealed an interesting small difference in the size of repeat between affected and normal individuals in the pedigree,for which more normal controls should be detected and confirmed for co-segregation in the disease.Identification of the gene responsible for this complex phenotype may shed additional light into the pathogenesis of ataxia,male infertility,and mental

A subbituminous coal was oxidized with air at 150℃on a fixed bed for 4 h and xanthated with carbondisulfide in a basic solution,at 30 or 5-10℃.This xanthated coal was evaluated for the removal of Hg^(2+)and Cd^(2+)from 7,000 mg/L aqueous solutions;metal concentrations were detemmined by atomic absorption spectrometry.The ionexchange of the xanthated coal was compared against those of the original subbituminous coal,a sulfonated subbituminouscoal,activated carbon,commercial activated carbon,and commercial synthetic resin.The commercial synthetic resinshowed the highest exchange capacity(concentration factor 98%)followed by the xanthated coal(concentration factor 96%).The retention of cadmium on the sulfonated subbituminous coal was lower(exchange capacity 0.56 meq/g)thanthat of xanthated coals(1.85±0.09 meq/g).Our xanthated coal showed a better Cd^(2+)removal(8l%o against 15%)than anon preoxidized 40-h-xanthated coal,which shows that oxidation of coal increased the amount of oxygenated groups whichenhanced xanthation.

Physical rehabilitation is an effective therapy to normalize weaknesses encountered with neurological disorders such as traumatic brain injury(TBI).However,the efficacy of exercise is limited during the acute period of TBI because of metabolic dysfunction,and this may further compromise neuronal function.Here we discuss the possibility to normalize brain metabolism during the early post-injury convalescence period to support functional plasticity and prevent long-term functional deficits.Although BDNF possesses the unique ability to support molecular events involved with the transmission of information across nerve cells through activation of its TrkB receptor,the poor pharmacokinetic profile of BDNF has limited its therapeutic applicability.The flavonoid derivative,7,8-dihydroxyflavone(7,8-DHF),signals through the same TrkB receptors and results in the activation of BDNF signaling pathways.We discuss how the pharmacokinetic limitations of BDNF may be avoided by the use of 7,8-DHF,which makes it a promising pharmacological agent for supporting activity-based rehabilitation during the acute post-injury period after TBI.In turn,docosahexaenoic acid(C22:6n-3;DHA)is abundant in the phospholipid composition of plasma membranes in the brain and its action is important for brain development and plasticity.DHA is a major modulator of synaptic membrane fluidity and function,which is fundamental for supporting cell signaling and synaptic plasticity.Exercise influences DHA function by normalizing DHA content in the brain,such that the collaborative action of exercise and DHA can be instrumental to boost BDNF function with strong therapeutic potential for reducing the deleterious effects of TBI on synaptic plasticity and cognition.

Critical assessment of R410A alternatives for mini-split air conditioners in the Egyptian market

In this study,the potential implementation of three different low-GWP refrigerants(R32,R452B,and R454B)as replacements for R410A was investigated.The study was performed using a simulation tool developed by the authors called RACHP-Lab,which is a vapor compression system simulation tool developed based on physics-based simulation for typical mini-split air conditioners.The simulation study was carried out and validated using experimental performance data of 10 different air conditioning units available in the Egyptian market.The units included fixed-speed or variable-speed compressors and operated in cooling or heating modes.Drop-in replace-ment with the new refrigerants was carried out.For R32,the capacity increased between 4.9%and 13%for cooling cases,and 6.3%and 12.4%for heating cases.However,COP did not improve in all cases.For R452B and R454B with direct replacement,the capacity nearly remained the same,with an increase of COP between 1.6%and 8.0%.Soft optimization was also conducted on cooling cases where compressor suction superheat,condenser subcooling,and compressor volumetric speed were optimized to maximize COP while maintaining the original capacity of R410A.R32 showed an improvement of COP over R410A between 4.6%and 15.5%,while for R452B and R454B between 2.2%and 13.2%.

Celiac disease(CeD)is an autoimmune enteropathy triggered by gluten in genetically susceptible individuals.[1] CeD may present with typical gastrointestinal symptoms,such as chronic diarrhea,abdominal distention,and poor weight gain triggered by gluten in the diet.Some children may have short stature(SS)as the sole manifestation of CeD.[2]Transient dysfunction of the endocrine growth axis has been reported in CeD.[3] This apparent growth hormone deficiency(GHD)is generally normalized with the introduction of a gluten-free diet(GFD).

The growing need for renewable energy and zero carbon dioxide emissions has fueled the development of thermoelectric generators with improved power generating capability.Along with the endeavor to develop thermoelectric materials with greater figures of merit,the geometrical and structural optimization of thermoelectric generators is equally critical for maximum power output and efficiency.Green energy strategies that are constantly updated are a viable option for addressing the global energy issue while also protecting the environment.There have been significant focuses on the development of thermoelectric modules for a range of solar,automotive,military,and aerospace applications in recent years due to various advantages including as low vibration,great reliability and durability,and the absence of moving components.In order to enhance the system performance of the thermoelectric generator,an artificial neural network(ANN)based algorithm is proposed.Furthermore,to achieve high efficiency and system stability,a buck converter is designed and deployed.Simulation and experimental findings demonstrate that the suggested method is viable and available,and that it is almost similar to the real value in the steady state with the least power losses,making it ideal for vehicle exhaust thermoelectric generator applications.Furthermore,the proposed hybrid algorithm has a high reference value for the development of a dependable and efficient car exhaust thermoelectric generating system.

研究了铜含量对触变Al-6Si-xCu-0.3mg(x=3,4,5,6,质量分数,%)合金显微组织与力学性能的影响。试样在液相分数为50%时进行触变成形,并对部分样品进行T6热处理。采用光学显微镜、扫描电子显微镜、能谱仪和X射线衍射、硬度和拉伸测试对样品进行表征。结果表明,冷却倾斜板铸造和触变成形工艺能促进铝基体中细小分散的金属间化合物的形成。与硬模铸造相比,合金的力学性能大幅度提高。随着铜含量的增加,触变成形合金的硬度和拉伸强度提高。热处理触变成形Al-6Si-3Cu-0.3mg合金的抗拉强度、屈服强度和伸长率分别为298mPa、201 mPa和4.5%。而当铜含量增加至6%时,合金的抗拉强度、屈服强度和伸长率分别为361 mPa、274 mPa和1.1%。触变成形Al-6Si-3Cu-0.3mg合金的失效形式为韧窝断裂,而当铜含量增加至6%时,失效形式为解理断裂。
