The inhibition of copper corrosion by a.id extra.t of Gnetum a.rica.a.wa. studied using weight loss method of monitoring corrosion ra.e. The inhibition of Gnetum a.rica.a.on copper corrosion wa. optimized by a.plica.ion of 23 factoria. design. While the intera.tive effects of tempera.ure, inhibition concentra.ion a.d rea.tion time were investiga.ed, the input factors a.d output response were a.so optimized. Optimum conditions for inhibition of Gnetum a.rica.a.on copper corrosion were recorded a. tempera.ure of 303 K, rea.tion time of 24 h a.d inhibition concentra.ion of 0.003 g/L. It could be concluded tha. factoria. design wa. a.equa.ely a.plica.le in the optimiza.ion of process va.ia.les a.d tha. Gnetuma.a.rica.a.sufficiently inhibited the corrosion of copper a. the conditions of the experiment.

Huma. Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) a.d Hepa.itis B Virus (HBV) sha.e common risk factors a.d HBV occurs in people with HIV resulting in a. increa.ed risk for HIV/HBV co-infection. Globa.ly, hepa.itis B virus infection is of serious public hea.th ca.sing morbidity a.d morta.ity. The increa.ing incidence of liver disea.es ca.sed by HBV is emerging a. a.significa.t ca.se of morbidity a.d morta.ity a.ong HIV-infected individua.s. a.clea.er knowledge of HBV preva.ence in Kogi Sta.e is importa.t in order to educa.e, inform the popula.ion a.d control epidemics through extensive va.cination a.d trea.ment progra.me. The a.m of this study wa. to determine the seropreva.ence of Hepa.itis B infection a.d to eva.ua.e molecula.ly HBV infection a.ong HIV seropositive individua.s. Sera.sa.ples were obta.ned from 218 consented HIV pa.ticipa.ts a.d screened for HBsa. using the commercia. membra.e ba.ed ra.id qua.ita.ive test kit a.d rea.-time PCR wa. performed using Tia.long to a.sa. the virus qua.tita.ively. a.structured questionna.re wa. used to collect informa.ion on pa.ient’s demogra.hic va.ia.les a.d risk factors for HBV tra.smission. Overa.l, 17 of the pa.ticipa.ts were seropositive to HBsa.. There wa. a.significa.t difference between the a.e distribution with (P-va.ue = 0.006) a.d ma.ita. sta.us with (P-va.ue = 0.044). Type of ma.ria.e, occupa.ion, pla.e of residence a.d risk factors a.socia.ed with HIV a.d HBV co-infection do not show significa.t differences. a.tota. of 17 HBsa. positive sa.ples were subjected to vira. loa. a.a.ysis, out of which 7 were highly unsuppressed, 5 were suppressed while the rema.ning 5 were undetecta.le. This study confirmed a.modera.ely high HIV/HBV co-infection ra.e (7.8%). The highly unsuppressed vira. loa. obta.ned from the study is a.potentia. risk for Hepa.ocellula. ca.cinoma.a.ong the study popula.ion. Extended Spectrum Beta.La.ta.a.e (ESBL) producing Escherichia.coli is a.globa. ca.se of life threa.ening infections. We determined the presence of ESBL a.d ca.ba.enema.e production in clinica. isola.es of E. coli a.d their a.tibiotic susceptibility. Clinica. isola.es of community a.d hospita. a.quired E. coli from 220 pa.ients seen a. a.tertia.y hospita. were eva.ua.ed. a.tibiotic susceptibility testing wa. by the modified Kirby-Ba.er protocol while ESBL production wa. determined by the Double Disk Synergy Test (DDST). Ca.ba.enem resista.ce wa. confirmed by the Modified Hodge Test. Of the 220 isola.es, 122 (55.5%) were from fema.es;41 (18.6%) were ESBL positive. a.out 90% of the ESBL producing isola.es were resista.t to nine of the 15 a.timicrobia. a.ents tested. However, only one (2.4%) of the 41 ESBL producing isola.es exhibited ca.ba.enem resista.ce. The ESBL nega.ive isola.es were susceptible to Meropenem (100%), Cefepime (97.8%), Ceftria.one (96.6%) a.d Cefota.ime (96.6%). a.l the ESBL producing isola.es ha.bored detecta.le pla.mids with sizes ra.ging from 2322 to 23,130 ba.e pa.rs. Our findings show tha. a.though multidrug resista.t ESBL producing E. coli a.e preva.ent in both the hospita. a.d the community in this environment, ca.ba.enem resista.ce is still low. We recommend tha. institutions develop guidelines for the ea.ly phenotypic detection of ESBLs a.d ca.ba.enem resista.ce.
