Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant and radical scavenging activities of Solanum anguivi fruit(SAG)and its possible effect on mitochondrial permeability transition pore as well as mitochondrial membrane potential(△Ψ_m)isolated from rat ***:Antioxidant activity of SAG was assayed by using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH),reducing power,iron chelation and ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation in both liver and brain homogenate of ***,the effect of SAG on mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial swelling were *** and quantification of bioactive polyphenolics was done by ***:SAG exhibited potent and concentration dependent free radical-scavenging activity(IC_(50)/DPPH=275.03±7.8μg/mL).Reductive and iron chelation abilities also increase with increase in SAG *** also inhibited peroxidation of cerebral and hepatic lipids subjected to iron oxidative *** protected against Ca^(2+)(110μmol/L)-induced mitochondrial swelling and maintained the△Ψ_*** analysis revealed the presence of gallic acid[(17.54±0.04)mg/g],chlorogenic acid(21.90±0.02 mg/g),caffeic acid(16.64±0.01 mg/g).rutin[(14.71±0.03)mg/g]and quercetin[(7.39±0.05)mg/g].Conclusions:These effects could be attributed to the bioactive polyphenolic compounds present in the *** results suggest that SAG extract is a potential source of natural antioxidants that may be used not only in pharmaceutical and food industry but also in the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress.

The tropics host about 80% of the planet’s terrestrial species and over 95% of its corals. A well-known tropical forest ecosystem to provide significant global regulating services has declined at a rate of 5.5 M ha per year from 1990-2015, while another region noted an increase per year. There is evidence that tropical region ecosystem services and disservices are the least studied in the world. This study quantified peer-review papers in the tropics, then explored the neglected ecosystem type, service category, assessment mode, applied techniques and choice dependence between ecosystem type, service category, assessment mode and applied techniques. The Google Scholar and Web of Science database were used to collect all ES & ED studies available online from 1960 to December 2017. This review covered 102 countries with 578 articles. The study showed dramatic articles increase in the last three years as more than 50% of articles were published after the year of 2014. The top countries in high articles were Mexico (n = 53), India (n = 43), and Brazil (n = 35). The ES & ED assessment tools/techniques are barely applied in tropics as only social based techniques such as interviews and questionnaire take over 45%, while biophysical tools like remote sensing and GIS appeared only in 20%, InVEST only in 3% while the rest tools are less than 1% even none such as ARIES model. Urban and marine ecosystem types, disservices category and trade-off assessment mode were the least studied. The review concluded that policy analysis ES & ED studies do not reflect the trade-offs and synergy analysis between different services which hinder the development of pragmatic policy and decisions toward ES sustainable management in the tropics. The rampant urbanization in the tropics is subjected to destroy existing ES. Thus, this review highly suggested a high concern of urbanization ecosystem. Angiomyolipomas (AML) are benign mesenchymal tumours. It is commonly seen in the kidney. Extra-renal sites of AML are uncommon though it can occur in any part of the body. Reports of cutaneous AML are rare in the literature. We present a case of an 11-year-old female with a polypoidal swelling on the nose that was noticed a few weeks after birth, which progressively increased in size till it was causing nasal blockage. This cutaneous lesion is different from a renal angiomyolipoma because it lacks features of tuberous sclerosis, non-invasive, absence of epithelioid cells and negative HMB-45 staining. Histopathology shows a mixture of blood vessels, mature adipocytes and smooth muscle. These unique features distinguish this lesion from other possible differentials such as angiomyoma and myolipoma. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry confirm the swelling as angiomyolipoma of the nose. We concluded that histopathology and immunohistochemistry are important diagnostic tools for cutaneous AML irrespective of gender, age of onset and site of lesion.

There is an increasing global concern for adverse effects of inorganic fertilizer and pesticides applied to agricultural soils. This study investigated metal speciation in soil and health risk assessment of Jute mallow (Corchorus olitoriuos) from a farm settlement in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Soil samples were collected according to the set standard procedure, sequentially extracted and analyzed for selected heavy metals using standard methods. Results showed that chromium (Cr) was associated with reducible fraction (Fe-Mn) for top soil, while cadmium (Cd), manganese (Mn), and copper (Cu);lead (Pb) and nickel (Ni);and Cr were predominantly bound to carbonate, reducible and residual mineral components respectively for sub-soil. The results of Contamination Factor (CF), Contamination Degree (CD), Pollution Load Index (PLI) and Geoaccumulation Index (Igeo) showed that the soil samples were not polluted for all the investigated metals. The Cd level in the soil (13.54 ± 1.21 mg·kg﹣1) and vegetables (0.83 ± 0.05 mg·kg﹣1) were above the USEPA critical permissible limit of 3.0 mg·kg﹣1 and 0.1 - 1.2 mg·kg﹣1 respectively. The daily intake of estimated selected heavy metals from the vegetable ranged from 8.8 × 10﹣03 to 1.4 × 10﹣02 for adult and 3.8 × 10﹣03 to 1.1 × 10﹣02 for children while the Hazard Quotient (HQ) for adults ranged from 5.4 × 10﹣05 to 1.1 × 10﹣01 and that of children ranged from 8.3 × 10﹣03 to 1.4 × 10﹣02. 经济地理学属于人文地理学中的重要分支,研究的内容通常包括经济活动的区位、空间组合类型和发展过程等,因人类的各种经济活动要在一定的地域内进行,所以,以人类活动的地域为单元进行具体研究工作的开展也就成为重要的发展领域。其中在研究过程中对尺度问题方面的关注还是相对较少的,以往研究中自然地理学方面、景观生态学、地图学、地理信息学等方面要关注的比较多,文章认为在国外专家究这方面也仍存在很多争议的问题,在中国这方面的研究中其主要作为人文地理学研究中的一部分,且与其它子学科的界限并不明显,仍需不断提高研究工作的重视程度。从整体的研究尺度来看,近年来经济地理学更偏向于微观角度的研究,中国也应逐渐从宏观视角转向微观,以更好的实现促进这方面的研究进步。

Comparative Study of the Kinetics of Dissolution of Laterite in some Acidic Media

Studies on the kinetics of dissolution of a Nigerian lateritic soil in acids media including hydrochloric, nitric and sulphuric acids have been undertaken. The elemental and mineralogical characterization, loss of mass on ignition, moisture content and pH of the material suspension in water were determined. The effects of acid concentration, process temperature, stirring rate and particle size on the dissolution rate were investigated. Experimental results indicated that laterite dissolution was greatly influenced by hydrogen ion concentration and the leaching data fitted a diffusion model. The linear dependence of the rate constant k on 1/ro 2 supported the proposed kinetic model. Values of 60.23 kJmol-1, 64.31 kJmol-1 and 67.53 kJmol-1 were obtained for the activation energies of laterite dissolution in hydrochloric, nitric and sulphuric acids respectively;and the order of reaction was approximately one with respect to each of the three acids.

非洲跨界族群问题兼具地方属性、国家属性和国际属性,因跨界族群问题引发的矛盾和冲突,对非洲国家乃至非洲整体的安全环境造成冲击。自非洲国家独立以来,多种类型的行为主体基于安全考虑对跨界族群问题进行干预,但尖锐的跨界族群问题并未因此缓解。本文将干预的施加方分为次国家行为体、国家行为体和超国家行为体,比较各层次行为主体干预跨界族群问题的具体目的、手段和效果。通过对各层次行为体的研究,本文认为尽管追求安全利益是各类行为体的根本目标,但追求安全的路径冲突最终导致跨界族群问题不断升级。未来,需要更加关注非洲国家内部的地方性矛盾,同时将个人、群体和国家的安全利益协调起来,进而实现非洲族群问题的有效治理。

Microbial Assay of Otamiri River and Its Sediments in Parts of Owerri

The aim of the study was to analyse and identify microbial constituents in the water and sediment samples with comparison of the River to World Health Organisation (WHO, 2011) standard for drinking water and Federal Ministry of Environment (FME, 2006) and their public health implications with respect to water quality. The microbial assay of Otamiri River was investigated using Standard plate count. The result indicates that microbial constituents of Otamiri river obtained at five strategic gauge stations designated SSWS1 (Egbu), SSWS2 (Timber Market), SSWS3 (FUTO), DOWNSTREAM (Mbirichi) and CONTROL POINT with mean Total coliform Count of 3.0 × 102, 3.0 × 103, 4.1 × 103 and 1.0 × 103 cfu/100ml with control point value of 0.5 × 103 respectively. The mean Total Bacteria Count was 3.0 × 104, 2.1 × 103, 1.1 × 103 and 0.8 × 103 cfu/100ml respectively with control point value of 0.2 × 103 while the mean values for Total E. coli Count were 1.1 × 102, 3.0 × 102, 4 × 103 and 2.0 × 103 cfu/100ml with control point value of 0.2 × 103. The biochemical identification of some organisms in water was Escherichia coli, Vibro spp., Klebsiella spp., and Entrobacteria spp. The result of stream sediment samples indicates that the mean Total Bacterial Count was 3.5 × 104, 5.0 × 104, 6.5 × 104 and 2.0 × 104 cfu/g respectively with 1.5 × 102 as control point value and that of Total Coliform Count was 6.5 × 103, 2.0 × 103, 2.5 × 103 and 0.8 × 103 cfu/g respectively with control point value of 0.5 × 102. While for the Total E. coli Count, the values were 2.5 × 103, 1.0 × 103, 2.5 × 103 and 0.5 × 105 cfu/g respective with control as 0.5 × 102. Biochemical identification of some organisms in sediments includes: Escherichia coli, Vibro spp., Klebsiella spp., Entrobacteria spp. and Bacillus spp. The mean total bacterial count, total coli form count and total E. coli, were not in conformity with both World Health Organisation (WHO, 2011) Standard for drinking water and Federal Ministry of Environm
