Biosensor development has recently advanced as a result of their strong and indisputable uses as analytical methods in a variety of sectors,including medicine,food industry,environmental monitoring,metabolism,agriculture,military,and *** popularity of biosensors as devices for a variety of applications may be ascribed to their distinct advantages of fast or rapid analysis,high sensitivity,minimal sample demand and preparation,and no need for the specific skill of operation that traditional analytical procedures *** attempted to update earlier studies in this study by incorporating other materials that have been in use but have received less attention,such as carbon nano-onions(CNOs),metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),and biopolymers for biosensor manufacturing and design based on their unique *** assessment also took into account applicable applications in many *** considerable progress has been made in the application of biosensors,there is still a need for research development and enhancement,particularly in transforming most of the laboratory experiments that have already been published into portable on-site and implementable in the public domains.

A comparative study of geometric and geostatistical methods for qualitative reserve estimation of limestone deposit

Mining projects especially relating to limestone deposits require an accurate knowledge of tonnage and grade,for both short and long-term *** is often difficult to establish as detailed exploration operations,which are required to get the accurate description of the deposit,are costly and time *** and mining engineers usually make use of geometric and geostatistical methods,for estimating the tonnage and grade of ore ***,explicit assessments into the differences between these methods have not been reported in *** bridge this research gap,a comparative study is carried out to compare the qualitative reserve of Oyo-Iwa limestone deposit located in Nigeria,using geometric and geostatistical *** geometric method computes the reserve of the limestone deposit as 74,536,820 t(mean calcite,CaO grade=52.15)and 99,674,793 t(mean calcite,CaO grade=52.32),for the Northern and Southern zones of the deposit,*** the other hand,the geostatistical method calculates the reserve as 81,626,729.65 t(mean calcite,CaO grade=53.36)and 100,098,697.46 t(mean calcite,CaO grade=52.96),for the two zones,*** small relative difference in tonnage estimation between the two methods(i.e.,9.51%and 0.43%),proves that the geometric method is effective for tonnage *** contrast,the relative difference in grade estimation between the two methods(i.e.,2.32%and 1.26%)is not negligible,and could be crucial in maintaining the profitability of the *** geostatistical method is,therefore,more suitable,reliable and preferable for grade estimation,since it involves the use of spatial modelling and cross-validated *** addition,the geostatistical method is used to produce quality maps and three-dimensional(3-D)perspective view of the limestone *** quality maps and 3-D view of the limestone deposit reveal the variability of the limestone grade within the deposit,and it is useful for operational ma

Artificial intelligence model for predicting geomechanical characteristics using easy-to-acquire offset logs without deploying logging tools

This study focuses on predicting acoustic and mechanical rock properties using random forest and feed forward neural network models to evaluate the likelihood of developing efficient ways of handling absence of rock properties at offset *** Random Forest algorithm was used for direct prediction of the sonic data without considering the depth range of the facies;while Feed forward Neural network was used to predict the sonic data with emphasis on the lithofacies *** accuracy of these approaches was used in choosing the best and the most robust model for predicting sonic data when estimating formation strength and mechnical *** log was predicted after training a combination of caliper log,gamma log,depth,density log and resistivity log from offset wells.5 hidden layers that accounts for the data structural complexities was included in the model architecture.A multilayer perceptron network was adopted for the Random forest algorithm to handle linear combinations of input data *** error computations were used to evaluate the performance of the ***,mechanical properties and sanding potential was evaluated using standard relations and appropriate depositional *** forest algorithm gave the best prediction accuracy of more than 96%,but the Feed forward network has the lower mean absolute error and mean squared error of 2.75 and 5.93 ***,the predicted compressive and shear wave velocity show increase of values with depth,a behavior that is capable of identifying payzone *** was validated by the distinction seen within the 200 feet gas sand formation in the deeper portion of the studied well(9600e9800 feet).Potential failure portions of the wells,a common feature in the field,were inferred from the sanding potential computed using the predicted mechanical properties value.

How Do You Know What You Know: epistemology in Software engineering

Ubiquitous computing emphasizes the notion of automation in the daily human experience. With the ease, comes the responsibility of knowing, the knowledge of the intrinsic nature of the machine and the evolution of human-computer interaction (HCI). The quest for knowledge is engrained in the act of questioning itself. “How?” “What? “Why?” dominates the vocabulary of every scientist and models the endlessness of our natural inquisitiveness. For example, an interaction of software systems in the case of a user who withdraws money from the ATM and automatically gets a text message and an e-mail containing notification of the transaction, engenders questions about how it all works;in technical terms, the nature of the special science that enables wireless communications. Knowledge that derives from aphorisms or other self-evident truths is easier to acknowledge, for example, the knowledge of “multiplication” is justified by the truthfulness of “addition”—the Apriori. However, in Software engineering (Se), the Apriori is more obscure. The investigation of the nature of knowledge in Se requires an expansion of the general idea of the Apriori in establishing knowledge.

Gender Differences in Auditory Perception and Computational Divided Attention Tasks

Women have been stereotyped as better multitaskers when compared to their male counterparts. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there are differences in gender performance when performing cognitive combined tasks. Twenty-four graduate students （twelve females and twelve males） volunteered to participate in the study. The task requires participants to indicate when they perceive a change in the intensity of an auditory signal while simultaneously solving algebraic problems. Multivariate Analysis of Variance （MANOVA） results reveal no significant differences between genders when performing the combined tasks （p = 0.1831 and 2 = 0.7891） although the average number of false alarms made during the combined tasks by males is nearly 11% higher than the average number of false alarms made by females. However, （Multivariate Analysis of Variance） ANOVA results for the combined tasks show that males outperform females on the computational task while listening for changes in the auditory signal F（1, 22） - 5.09, p 〈 0.03, but there are no significant differences in their ability to detect noise intensity variation or in the number of false alarms made while multitasking. For the single task analysis the ANOVAs indicate no significant differences in signal detection task performance, computational task performance, or the number of false alarms made by males and females.

Detection of extended Spectrum β-Lactamase Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae and escherichia coli in Two Hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria

In this study, the prevalence of extended Spectrum Beta-lactamase (eSBL) producing Klebsiella pneumoniae and escherichia coli isolates from the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital and the National Hospital was determined. A total of two hundred and fifteen (215) clinical isolates were examined, of which 60% were e. coli and 40% K. pneumoniae respectively. The isolates were collected from various samples namely: Stool, Urine, Pus, High Vagina Swab, Sputum and Wound swab. Out of these isolates, 54 of K. pneumoniae were screened to be eSBL negative and 32 as eSBL positive isolates, while 88 and 40 e. coli were also screened as eSBL negative and eSBL positive isolates respectively. These represent 37.9% of all K. pneumoniae isolates and 31.25% of e. coli isolates respectively. The prevalence of eSBL among the species was not however statistically different (p > 0.05). Multiple resistance in these isolates was common and there is the need for routine screening of eSBL in our hospitals to guide rational and effective use of antibiotics.

Time Series Analysis on Reported Cases of Tuberculosis in Minna Niger State Nigeria

Predicting the trend of non-seasonal data is a difficult task in Social Science. In this research work, we used time series analysis of 144 observations on monthly basis for record of reported cases of tuberculosis patients in Minna General Hospital, Niger State from the period of 2007-2018. exploratory Data Analysis (eDA: Time Plot and Descriptive Statistics), Stationarity Test (ADF), Trend estimation (Tt), Normality Test, and Forecast evaluation were carried out. The Augmented Dickey Fuller test for stationarity was conducted and the result revealed that the series are not stationary but became stationary after first difference. The correlogram established that the ARIMA (2, 1, 3) was the best model this was further confirmed from the result of L-jung Box. Diminazene aceturate modified nanocomposite for improved efficacy in acute trypanosome infection

Objective: To investigate the improved antitrypanocidal activity and toxicity of diminazene aceturate modified Nano drug in experimental rats. Methods: Aqueous leaf extract of Hyptis suaveolens was used to reduce gold tetrachloride to its nanoparticle size and this was characterized and formulates with naturally synthesized polyhydroxybutyrateas a Nano carrier. A total of thirty (30) albino rats were group into 6 (A-F) of 5 rats each & infected intraperitoneally with 0.2 mL of the inoculum containing about 1×103 Trypanosoma brucei brucei parasites per 0.2 mL of blood. Groups A and B were treated with 3 and 6 minutes released orange PHB, Groups C and D were treated with 15 and 30 minutes released mango PHB formulated tablet while Groups e and F were negative (untreated) and standard drug (Dininazene aceturare) respectively. Results: The free drug and modified orange synthesized polyhydroxy butyrate shows antitrypanocidal activities by reducing the replicating rate of the parasite as compared to infect untreated. While the modified- mango synthesized shows increasing order of replication. There were significant increases in all the haematological parameter evaluated in the infected treated groups compared to infect untreated. But no significant difference (Perved in the Catalase activity in the serum and liver of all the groups whereas, the modified orange synthesized shows significant decrease in other enzymes activities evaluated when compared with the free drug, mango synthesized and the infected untreated groups. Conclusion: Orange synthesized modified diminazene aceturate show efficacy as free drug with limited toxicity that can enhance the therapeutic.

Prevalence and Pattern of Intestinal Parasitic Infestations among HIV Infected Children in Lagos, Nigeria

Introduction: Intestinal parasitic infections significantly affect paediatric population globally with over 800 million children at risk. The chronic nature of these infestations is associated with chronic disabilities approaching 9 million Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs). Co-infection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and intestinal parasitic infections adorned the pre-Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) era resulting in impaired nutritional state and dysfunctional immune system, especially amongst affected children. The success of HAART in conjunction with other life-saving measures has improved the outcome of children living with HIV. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and pattern of parasitic infections among children living with HIV in Lagos. Methodology: Consecutive children attending the paediatric anti-retroviral clinic were enrolled. Socio-demographic and clinical characteristics elicited from the clinical examination were recorded. Fresh stool samples of the children were obtained and examined for intestinal parasites. Data were analyzed with the Statistics Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 20 software. Results: A total of 102 children participated in the study with a majority being males (52.9%), in primary school (73.5%) and living in urban settings (82.4%). Six children were found to harbour intestinal parasites giving a prevalence of 5.9% with Ascaris lumbricoides (50%) and entamoeba histolytica (33.3%) being the prevalent parasites seen. Children with a Body Mass Index (BMI) Z-score er estimates of intestinal parasitic infestations [p value Conclusion: The prevalence of intestinal infestation was 5.9% with Ascariasis being the commonest intestinal parasitosis in our study. Malnutrition was found to be significantly associated with its occurrence.

Food Access and experience of Food Insecurity in Nigerian Households during the COVID-19 Lockdown

The food insecurity experiences and related behaviors of Nigerian households during the COVID-19 lockdown have not been fully discussed. This study was conducted to elicit information on the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on economic and behavioral patterns related to food access. An online-based semi-structured questionnaire distributed through messaging platforms was used to collect information on characteristics, food purchasing behaviour before and during COVID-19 lockdown among respondents. Experience of food insecurity was assessed using Food Insecurity experience Scale (FIeS). A total of 883 responses were received and analyzed using SPSS Version 20.0. Most of the respondents (90.5%) were at home or had stopped going to work due to COVID-19 restrictions. even though smaller households had higher food expenditure claims than larger households (p = 0.012), the larger the household, the more acute the challenge of economic access to food (p = 0.050). Location (p = 0.000), age (p = 0.003), occupation (p = 0.014) and income level (p = 0.000) were associated with experience of food insecurity. In conclusion, lockdown restrictions increased food expenditure and experience of food insecurity among the respondents and thus we recommend the probe of long-term consequences of deviations from usual food access on undernutrition or overnutrition in Nigerian households.
