objective:To determine malaria prevalence,knowledge,attitude and practices at residents of Lagos Island Local ***:Two hundred blood samples were collected from adults attending the General Hospital,Marina while 100 questionnaires were administered to individuals still in the same *** of the respondents were between the ages of 18 and 30 years(44%),while the age group 60 and above had the lowest population(9%).Results:More than half of the respondents(68%)were employed and engaged in different occupations such as entrepreneur(32%),students(31%),trader(24%),and civil servant(10%).Stratification of the respondents by income revealed that 71%earned above the minimum wage,while 29%earned *** prevalence of malaria by microscopy method was 10.5%.Malaria parasite had significant effect on the packed cell volume of infected individuals(Poyed by the respondents were majorly insecticide(72.2%),while some others(5.6%)used mosquito *** of the respondents(98%)believed that malaria was caused by ***:Therefore,it is appropriate to put in place preventive measures against malaria to avoid high prevalence of the number one killer in tropical Africa.

近年来,由于环境污染和能源危机日益严峻,世界各国大力发展电动汽车。在电动汽车中,轮毂电机驱动电动汽车具有结构简单紧凑、驱动效率高、便于控制等方面的显著优势,得到了行业内专家学者的普遍关注。然而,在轮毂电机驱动电动汽车的节能与转矩分配方法方面的研究不足导致了整车转矩分配不合理、无法兼顾整车能量消耗优化等方面的问题。本文以轮毂电机驱动汽车为研究对象,重点研究了能够延长整车行驶里程的节能与转矩分配方法。首先,利用AVL Cruise和MATLAB/Simulink构建了轮毂电机驱动电动汽车联合仿真平台。在AVL Cruise软件中建立了整车模型,包括轮毂电机模型、电池模型、轮胎模型和驾驶员模型。在MATLAB/Simulink软件中建立了整车动力学模型和转矩分配模型。其次,设计了轮毂电机驱动电动汽车整车前后驱动转矩分配控制系统,以最优转矩分配和能效为综合目标,提出了基于模糊逻辑控制的前后驱动转矩分配策略,分别得到了WLTC工况、NEDC工况及IM240工况下基于模糊逻辑控制的前后驱动转矩及相应的能量消耗仿真结果。再次,在上述研究基础上,进一步提出了基于动态规划控制算法的整车前后驱动转矩分配方法,得到了在WLTC工况、NEDC工况及IM240工况下的前后驱动转矩及相应的能量消耗仿真结果。结果表明,与基于模糊逻辑控制的转矩分配相比,采用动态规划控制算法的转矩分配方法能够有效降低整车能量消耗。在WLTC、NEDC和IM240工况下整车能量消耗分别降低了22.68%、20.73%和21.84%。最后,搭建了轮毂电动轮综合性能实验台架,对轮毂电机驱动电动汽车整车前后驱动转矩分配方法接能量消耗进行了实验验证。实验结果表明,与基于模糊逻辑控制的驱动转矩分配方法相比,采用基于动态规划的驱动转矩分配方法使得轮毂电机驱动电动汽车在WLTC、NEDC和IM240工况下整车能量消耗分别降低了23.89%、23.12%和23.01%。通过台架实验,验证了本文所提出的基于动态规划的整车驱动转矩分配方法具有较低的能量消耗,提高了整车能量利用率,延长了整车续驶里程。

Microbiological and Nutritional Assessment of Starter-Developed Fermented Tigernut Milk

Fermented tigernut milk (FTM) was prepared from three different varieties (fresh yellow, big and small dry brown) of tigernut (Cyperus esculenta) obtained from Bodija market, Ibadan, oyo state. Fifty two microbial isolates were obtained from FTM at different fermentation times, 32 of which were on MRS agar, 12 on nutrient agar and 8 on malt extract agar. Lactic acid bacteria were identified as Lactobacillus plantarum (LP), Lactococcus lactis (LC), Lactobacillus brevis, Lactococcus cremoris, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Lactococcus thermophilus (LT). The non-LAB identified includes E. coli, Bacillus species and Proteus species while the yeasts include Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida kefyr. Lactic acid bacteria were found to predominate the total microflora of the FTM with their count ranging between 2.0 × 104 cfu/ml to 2.0 × 108 cfu/ml. Microbiological examination revealed that the FTM was safe for consumption as non-LAB counts were below the limit of acceptance which is 2.0 × 105 cfu/ml for dairy milk by Codex Alimentarius Commission. The quantity of lactic acid produced by the LAB isolates ranged between 0.86 g/l - 2.86 g/l while that of hydrogen peroxide ranged between 0.16 g/l - 0.51 g/l. Starter cultures were selected based on predominance of isolate, physiological characteristics, quantity of lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide production. The tiger nut varieties were fermented with the following starter combinations LP, LP/LC, LP/LC/LT, LP/LT while the fifth was spontaneously fermented. The nutritional, chemical and sensory properties of the starter fermented tiger nut milk were evaluated. The highest protein content (24.80%) was obtained in FTM with mixed cultures of LP/LC/LT while the least (3.00%) was obtained in spontaneously fermented milk. There was a significant difference in the FTM varieties. The cultivation of desirable aquatic organisms is becoming increasingly important as one of the fastest-growing agro-industrial activities in the world. Nigeria, over the years, practised traditional methods of aquaculture in tidal pools and floodplains of inland waters. Recently, the coastal region has been the focus of aquaculture development with introduction of cage culture system. Nigeria is one of the top aquaculture producers in Africa with numerous opportunities for large-scale production, and 80% of production is from small-scale farmers who involve in brackish and freshwater cultivation, except mariculture which has several setbacks. Nigeria is yet to show feasible interest in non-fed aquaculture （macroalgae） which is among the world＇ s most efficient mass producer of proteins and other products. Constraints to production in the industry have been identified, while the prospects can be achieved by expanding aquaculture zones, enhancing management practices of production systems and improving product quality with the resultant creation of jobs, regular income and investment, etc.. This paper explores the status of aquaculture in Nigeria, and the components and the systems of commercial aquaculture were elucidated.

Nigeria has a very high number of sickle cell disease (SCD) population with addition of 150,000 babies born annually with the disease. Early infant diagnosis and good care make many of these babies survive to adulthood. Severe pain requiring moderately strong or very strong analgesics is a common presentation of patients with Sickle Cell Anaemia. Paediatricians find ready usefulness of opioids which are very useful for the painful episodes among these patients. Therefore, the chances of abuse and addiction to these medications become very high and constitute additional burden on the deficient manpower in the health sector. opioid Use Disorder among Sickle Cell Disease patients has subtle presentation, so a high index of suspicion is required to make both the diagnosis and referral to treatment centres. In this review, the epidemiology, pain pathophysiology, behavioural and pharmacologic therapy have been re-examined.

The loss of electrolyte balance in diets of broiler chickens has resulted in a serious distur-bance of blood acid-base balance, coupled with elevated body temperature. The body losses carbon dioxide (Co2) and bicarbonate (HCo3), resulting in respiratory alkalosis or acidosis. Under tropical conditions of high environmental temperatures, the balance of electrolytes in feeds must be set much higher as to maintain equal metabolic and digestive efficiency. However, information on the ideal dietary electrolyte balance (DEB) that could effectively correct acid-base imbalance in broiler chickens under severe heat stress condition is scanty. Therefore, the effects of varying electrolyte balance in diets on haematology, blood glucose and serum inorganic elements were assessed in broiler chickens at starter (0 - 21 d) and finisher (22 - 35 d) phases, under temperature-humidity index of 24.97 - 35.19. one day-old Arbor Acre chicks (n = 300) were procured and randomly allotted to diets supplemented with potassium chloride and sodium bicarbonate, to balance monovalent ions (sodium, potassium and chloride) at 210 (T1), 240 (T2), 270 (T3), 300 (T4), 330 (T5) and 360 (T6) mEq/kg DEB, in a completely randomised design. on days 21 and 35, blood (5 mL) samples were collected from birds in each replicate whose weights were closest to the mean class weight for haematology and serum biochemical indices using standard procedures. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and ANoVA at α = 0.05. Different levels of DEB did not significantly affect (P > 0.05) haematology and blood glucose at starter phase. However, at finisher phase, heterophil: lymphocyte of birds on 270 and 240 mEq/kg DEB were lower (P ompared to other dietary treatments. Blood acid-base balance was relatively enhanced in birds on aggregate DEB level of 360 mEq/kg with reduced chloride ion and relatively lower incidence of hemodilution with respect to high haemoglobin levels as this level is advantageous in
