We study the geometry and the period map of nodal complex prime Fano threefolds with index 1 and degree *** show that these threefolds are birationally isomorphic to Verra threefolds,i.e.,hypersurfaces of bidegree (2,2) in P2 × *** Verra's results on the period map for these threefolds and on the Prym map for double tale covers of plane sextic curves,we prove that the fiber of the period map for our nodal threefolds is the union of two disjoint surfaces,for which we give several *** result is the analog in the nodal case of a result of Debarre O,Iliev A,Manivel L (arXiv:0812.3670) in the smooth case.

A new specimen assigned to the species Iverya averyi gen. nov. and sp. nov. is described. This species is considered as a triadotypomorphan insect, a poorly known group of Triassic stem-odonatans. Like other triadotypomorphans, this species exhibits an area between MA and MP that is comparatively broad, and a cubitoanal area involving an AA stem distinct from CuA ＋ CuP ＋ AA emitting several posterior branches. Diagnostic character states of the new species are listed. Although incomplete, the specimen provides new information on the wing morphology of triadotypomorphans. This discovery might contribute to better assessment of the phylogenetic position of triadotypomorphan species with respect to other stem-odonatans.

We describe a new karst-dwelling Cyrtodactylus from Ban Thathom, Xiangkhoang Province, northeastern Laos. The new species can be distinguished from other congeners by having four dark dorsal bands between limb insertions, a discontinuous nucha~ loop, 10 precloacal pores in males or 10-12 precloacal pits （females） separated by a diastema from a series of enlarged femoral scales bearing 18 or 19 pores （male） or 8-10 pits （females） along each femur, 14-18 dorsal tubercle rows at midbody, no precloacal groove, 30-36 midbody scale rows across belly between ventrolateral skin folds, transversely enlarged subcaudal plates, and a maximal known snout-vent length of 75.5 mm. Our description brings to 22 the number of Cyrtodactylus species recorded from Laos.

Background:Collecting and studying live sperm is central to many important fields of ***,a simple method to collect live sperm is lacking in wild seabird ***,we describe a non?invasive method to collect viable sperm samples based on a simple massage technique applied to male Black?legged Kittiwakes(Rissa tridactyla).Methods:We studied a colony breeding at Kongsfjorden,svalbard and successfully obtained sperm samples from 32 *** a subset of samples(n = 12 males),we compared the suitability of several extenders(0.9% NaCl,PBs,Earle's balance salt solution,Dulbecco's modified Eagle medium) in maintaining sperm alive long enough for *** another 18 ejaculates,we conducted computer assisted sperm analyses using the CAsA plugin for *** provide details about the settings to be used for such ***,droplets from 20 ejaculates were smeared on glass slides and preserved with formalin to characterize sperm morphology in terms of total sperm length,sperm head length,midpiece length and flagellum length,and percentage of abnormal ***:With this method and under field conditions,we were able to obtain sufficient amounts of live sperm to assess traits related to sperm quality(*** morphology,percentage of motile sperm,sperm velocity).We found that two extenders,Earle's balanced salt solution and Dulbecco modified Eagle's medium,yielded similarly good ***,we investigated whether specific behaviours were associated with successful sperm collection and whether sperm collection success depended on how long before laying sperm collection was ***,we provide mean values for sperm morphology,sperm swimming ability and percentage of motile sperm,which may prove useful for future comparative analyses,and we report high levels of sperm abnormality and within?ejaculate variation in sperm ***:We discuss the high percentage of abnormal sperm and high within?ejaculate variation in sperm

Background:Individual tree extraction from terrestrial laser scanning(TLs)data is a prerequisite for tree-scale estimations of forest biophysical *** task currently is undertaken through laborious and time-consuming manual assistance and quality *** study presents a new fully automatic approach to extract single trees from large-area TLs *** data-driven method operates exclusively on a point cloud graph by path finding,which makes our method computationally efficient and universally applicable to data from various forest ***:We demonstrated the proposed method on two openly available ***,we achieved state-of-the-art performance on locating single trees on a benchmark dataset by significantly improving the mean accuracy by over 10% especially for difficult forest ***,we successfully extracted 270 trees from one hectare temperate *** validation resulted in a mean Intersection over Union(mIoU)of 0.82 for single crown segmentation,which further led to a relative root mean square error(RMsE%)of 21.2% and 23.5% for crown area and tree volume estimations,***:Our method allows automated access to individual tree level information from TLs point *** proposed method is free from restricted assumptions of forest *** is also computationally efficient with an average processing time of several seconds for one million *** is expected and hoped that our method would contribute to TLs-enabled wide-area forest qualifications,ranging from stand volume and carbon stocks modelling to derivation of tree functional traits as part of the global ecosystem understanding.

Molecular speciation of atmospheric organic matter was investigated during a short summer field campaign performed in a citrus fruit field in northern Corsica（June 2011）. Aimedat assessing the performance on the field of newly developed analytical protocols, this work focuses on the molecular composition of both gas and particulate phases and provides an insight into partitioning behavior of the semi-volatile oxygenated fraction. Limonene ozonolysis tracers were specifically searched for, according to gas chromatography–mass spectrometry（GC–Ms） data previously recorded for smog chamber experiments. A screening of other oxygenated species present in the field atmosphere was also performed. About sixty polar molecules were positively or tentatively identified in gas and/or particle phases. These molecules comprise a wide range of branched and linear, mono and di-carbonyls（C_3–C7）,mono and di-carboxylic acids（C_3–C_18）, and compounds bearing up to three *** these compounds, some can be specifically attributed to limonene oxidation and others can be related to α- or β-pinene oxidation. This provides an original snapshot of the organic matter composition at a Mediterranean site in summer. Furthermore, for compounds identified and quantified in both gaseous and particulate phases, an experimental gas/particle partitioning coefficient was determined. several volatile products, which are not expected in the particulate phase assuming thermodynamic equilibrium, were nonetheless present in significant concentrations. Hypotheses are proposed to explain these observations, such as the possible aerosol viscosity that could hinder the theoretical equilibrium to be rapidly reached.

The use of fundamental modelocking to generate short terahertz(THz)pulses and THz frequency combs from semiconductor lasers has become a routine affair,using quantum cascade lasers(QCLs)as a gain ***,unlike classic laser diodes,no demonstrations of harmonic modelocking,active or passive,have been shown in THz QCLs,where multiple pulses per round trip are generated when the laser is modulated at the harmonics of the cavity’s fundamental round-trip ***,using time-resolved THz techniques,we show for the first time harmonic injection and mode-locking in which THz QCLs are modulated at the harmonics of the round-trip *** demonstrate the generation of the harmonic electrical beatnote within a QCL,its injection locking to an active modulation and its direct translation to harmonic pulse generation using the unique ultrafast nature of our ***,we show indications of self-starting harmonic emission,i.e.,without external modulation,where the QCL operates exclusively on a harmonic(up to its 15th harmonic)of the round-trip *** behaviour is supported by time-resolved simulations of induced gain and loss in the system and shows the importance of the electronic,as well as photonic,nature of *** results open up the prospect of passive harmonic modelocking and THz pulse generation,as well as the generation of low-noise microwave generation in the hundreds of GHz region.
