Objective: To verify that Proliverenol has a potential ability in protecting cells from ethanol-induced ***: Activity of Proliverenol against ethanol-induced apoptosis was evaluated at m RNA and protein levels in Hep G2 cell exposed to Proliverenol for 1 and 3 ***: Proliverenol conferred hepatoprotective activity through increasing cell survival up to 53%–69% via up-regulation of APEX1 DNA repair enzyme for 3.0–4.7 fold and down-regulating of nuclear factor-kB, tumor necrosis factora and caspase-8 expression,allowing them to prevent 4.5–6.9 fold of alanine aminotransferase(AlT) leakage in Hep G2 cells. Our finding revealed that Proliverenol repressed expression of AlT, which is significantly important as possible alternative mechanism for increased blood transaminase activities. In addition, the result also showed that caspase-8 pathway seemed to be involved in the molecular pathway rather than directly inducing mitochondrial ***: The data support our hypothesis that Proliverenol has a potential ability in protecting cells from ethanol-induced hepatotoxicity. We propose that Proliverenol provides hepatoprotective activity through up-regulating expression of APEX1 that repress DNA fragmentation, and down-regulating expression of nuclear factor-kB, tumor necrosis factora and caspase-8, which therefore repress AlT leakage and its expression.

Species specialization limits movement ability and shapes ecological networks: the case study of 2 forest mammals

To counteract the negative effects of forest fragmentation on wildlife, it is crucial to maintain functional ecological networks. We identified the ecological networks for 2 mammals with very different degrees of forest specialization, the European badger Meles metes and the Roe deer Capreolus capreolus, by differentiati ng 4 agroforestry eleme nts as either no des or conn ectivity elements, and by defining the distanee that provides the functional connectivity between fragments. Species occurrenee data were collected in a wide agroecosystem in northern Italy. To test the role of hedgerows, traditional poplar cultivations, short rotation coppices, and reforestations as ecological network elements for the 2 species we applied the method of simulated species perceptions of the Iandscape (SSPl), comparing the ability of different SSPls to explain the observed species distribution. All analyses were repeated considering different seenarios of species movement ability through the matrix. Model outputs seem to show that the specialist and highly mobile Roe deer has the same movement ability throughout the matrix (2 km) as the European badger, a smaller, but generalist species. The ecological network identified for the European badger was widespread throughout the area and was composed of woodlands, poplar cultivations and hedgerows as nodes and short rotation coppices as connectivity elements. Conversely, the ecological network of the Roe deer was mostly limited to the main forest areas and was composed of woodlands, poplar cultivations and ref o restat i ons as no des and short rotation coppices and hedgerows as conn ectivity elements. The degree of forest specialization strongly affects both species perception of habitat and movement ability throughout the matrix, regardless of species size. This has important implications for species conservation.

A lutetium 177 (177lu) radiopharmaceutical has been used as a theragnostic agent in molecular radiotherapies. This study aimed to produce images simulating those obtained in a total body imaging study with hot lesions to assess and investigate the image quality of the Hawkeye SPECT/CT images from lu-177. The NEMA image quality phantom (PTW) with spheres (inner diameters of 10, 13, 17, 22, 28 and 37 mm) and lung insert was used. The measured volume in the background of the current phantom setting was 9482 ml. The five smaller spheres were filled with an activity concentration of 0.461 MBq/ml and the biggest sphere was filled with water. The phantom was placed on the couch and scanned at four hot sphere-to-background concentrations, which are no background, 16:1, 8:1 and 4:1. The images obtained from the scans were imported onto the OXIRIS image analysis tool. Regions of interest (ROIs) were drawn on each sphere of the reconstructed SPECT image. Image contrast and background variability ratios for hot spheres were used as measures of image quality. In addition, the accuracy of corrections were determined from the uniform background and cold lung insert regions. The 37 mm cold sphere had the highest percent contrast, whiles the 10 mm hot sphere had the least for the various hot sphere to background ratios. The background variability for each hot sphere was also determined. The average lung residual error was calculated to be 23.13% for the 16:1 and 22.57% for both the 8:1 and 4:1 hot sphere to background ratio. The results show that the scanner has very good overall performance.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the FOlFIRI regimen in patients with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAC) after the failure of gemcitabine and platinum salts. METHODS: All consecutive patients with histologically confirmed, metastatic PAC and World Health Organiza-tion performance status (PS) ≤ 2 received FOlFIRI-1 [irinotecan 180 mg/m2 on day 1 and leucovorin 400 mg/m2 followed by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) 400 mg/m2 bolus, then 5-FU 2400 mg/m2 as a 46-h infusion, biweekly] or FOlFIRI-3 (irinotecan 100 mg/m2 on day 1 and leucovorin 400 mg/m2, then 5-FU 2400 mg/m2 as a 46-h infusion and irinotecan 100 mg/m2 repeated on day 3, biweekly) after failure of gemcitabine and platinum-based chemotherapies as a systematic policy in two institutions between January 2005 and May 2010. Tumor response, time to progression (TTP), overall survival rate (OS) and grade 3-4 toxicities were retrospectively studied. Subgroup analyses were performed to search for prognostic factors. RESUlTS: Sixty-three patients (52.4% male, median age 59 years) were analyzed. Among them, 42.9% were PS 0, 38.1% were PS 1 and 19.0% were PS 2. Fifty one patients (81.0%) had liver metastases. Before the FOlFIRI regimen, patients had received 1 line (n = 19), 2 lines (n = 39) or 3 lines (n = 5) of chemotherapy. Median TTP obtained with the line before FOlFIRI was 3.9 mo (95% CI: 3.4-5.3 mo). A total of 480 cycles was completed (median: 6 cycles, range: 1-51 cycles). The main reason for discontinuing FOlFIRI was tumor progression (90.3%). Tumor control was achieved in 25 patients (39.7%) (partial response: n = 5, stable disease: n = 20) with FOlFIRI. Median TTP was 3.0 mo (95% CI: 2.1-3.9 mo) and median OS was 6.6 mo (95% CI: 5.3-8.1 mo). Dose adaptation was required in 36 patients (57.1%). Fifteen patients (23.8%) had grade 3-4 toxicities, mainly hematological (n = 11) or digestive (n = 4). Febrile neutropenia occurred in 3 patients. There was no toxic death. This study was performed to identify the categories and distribution of sudden natural deaths(SNDs)in Ontario(ON)from January 2012 to December 2016 as no such reports have been published in ON,and the authors sought to find out the distribution of SND across ON by organ system,age,and *** medicolegal databases were searched,and eight major categories of SND were identified and evaluated using multinomial logistic *** the 5-year period,10,880 autopsies were performed on individuals aged 1–100,who died of sudden and natural *** 800 causes of SNDs were recorded from January 2012 to December *** largest category of SND was attributed to diseases and complications of the cardiovascular system(64.1%)followed by the respiratory system(9.1%),gastrointestinal system(6.9%),central nervous system(6.0%),metabolic diseases(3.8%),chronic alcoholism(3.5%),other(2.4%),infectious diseases(2.2%),and cancer(1.8%).The five most common causes of SND were also cardiovascular in origin,which included atherosclerotic heart disease(n=2127,19.5%),atherosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease(n=711,6.5%),myocardial infarction(n=723,6.6%),hypertensive heart disease(n=518,4.8%),and pulmonary embolism(n=377,3.5%).Determination of cause of death in natural deaths is an important part in death investigation,which can provide crucial information in the interest of public health by identifying public health risks and monitoring disease trends.

Impact of elevated CO2 and increased temperature on Japanese beetle herbivory

To examine how the major elements of global change affect herbivory in agroecosystems, a multifactorial experiment was conducted where soybeans were grown at two levels of carbon dioxide and temperature, including those predicted for 2050, under otherwise normal field conditions. Japanese beetles （Popillia japonica Newman） were enclosed on foliage for 24 h, after which the beetle survivorship, total and per capita leaf consumption, and leaf protease inhibitor activity were measured. The direct effect of temperature on beetle consumption and survivorship also was measured under controlled environmental conditions. No differences in total foliage consumption were observed; however, beetles forced to feed at elevated temperature in the field demonstrated greater per capita consmnption and reduced survivorship compared to beetles feeding at ambient temperature. Survivorship was also greater for beetles that consumed foliage grown under elevated CO2, but there were no interactive effects of CO2 and temperature, and no differences in leaf chemistry were resolved. leaf consumption by beetles increased strongly with increasing temperature up to -37℃, above which increased mortality caused a precipitous decrease in consumption. An empirical model based on the temperature dependence of leaf consumption and flight suggests that the 3.5℃ increase in temperature predicted for 2050 will increase the optimal feeding window for the Japanese beetle by 290%. Elevated temperature and CO2 operating independently have the potential to greatly increase foliage damage to soybean by chewing insects, such as Popilliajaponica, potentially affecting crop yields.
