This study focuses on the successful application of single-incision pediatric endosurgery in the treatment of congenital anomalies and acquired diseases in neonates and infants. The purpose of this scientific review consists in highlighting the spectrum, indications, applicability, and effectiveness of single-port endosurgery in children during the first 3 postnatal months.

Variation in regrowth ability in relation to land-use intensity in three common grassland herbs

Aims Plant populations in managed grasslands are subject to strong selection exerted by grazing,mowing and *** previous studies showed that this can cause evolutionary changes in mean trait values,but little is known about the evolution of phenotypic plasticity in response to land *** this study,we aimed to elucidate the relationships between phenotypic plasticity—specifically,regrowth ability after biomass removal—and the intensity of grassland management and levels of temporal variation *** We conducted an outdoor common garden experiment to test if plants from more intensively mown and grazed sites showed an increased ability to regrow after biomass *** used three common plant species from temperate European grasslands,with seed material from 58 to 68 populations along gradients of land-use intensity,ranging from extensive(only light grazing)to very intensive management(up to four cuts per year).Important Findings In two out of three species,we found significant population differentiation in regrowth ability after *** variation in regrowth ability was unrelated to the mean land-use intensity of populations of origin,we found a relationship with its temporal variation in Plantago lanceolata,where plants experiencing less variable environmental conditions over the last 11 years showed stronger regrowth in reproductive biomass after ***,while mean grazing and mowing intensity may not select for regrowth ability,the temporal stability of the environmental heterogeneity created by land use may have caused its evolution in some species.

ON KARUSH-KUHN-TUCKER POINTS FOR A SMOOTHING METHOD IN SEMI-INFINITE OPTIMIZATION

We study the smoothing method for the solution of generalized semi-infinite optimization problems from （O. Stein, G. Still： Solving semi-infinite optimization problems with interior point techniques, SIAM j. Control Optim., 42（2003）, pp. 769-788）. It is shown that Karush-Kuhn-Tucker points of the smoothed problems do not necessarily converge to a Karush-Kuhn-Tucker point of the original problem, as could be expected from results in （F. Facchinei, H. jiang, L. Qi： A smoothing method for mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints, Math. Program., 85（1999）, pp. 107-134）. Instead, they might merely converge to a Fritz john point. We give, however, different additional assumptions which guarantee convergence to Karush-Kuhn：Tucker points.

Lysozyme as an alternative to growth promoting antibiotics in swine production

Lysozyme is a naturally occurring enzyme found in bodily secretions such as tears, saliva, and milk. It functions as an antimicrobial agent by cleaving the peptidoglycan component of bacterial cell walls, which leads to cell death. Antibiotics are also antimicrobials and have been fed at subtherapeutic levels to swine as growth promoters. These compounds benefit swine producers by minimizing production losses by increasing feed efficiency and decreasing susceptibility to bacterial infection and disease. This manuscript reviews the knowledge of the effects of lysozyme, as compared to traditional subtherapeutic antibiotics in swine feed, on pig performance and health. It is clear from decades of studies that antibiotic use in feeds increases pig performance, particularly in the nursery. Similarly, lysozyme, as a feed additive, increases growth and feed efficiency. While the mechanism by which antibiotics and lysozyme improve performance is not clearly understood, both of these feed additives improve gastrointestinal health, improve the metabolic profile, and alter the gastrointestinal bacteria ecology of swine. Therefore, lysozyme is a suitable alternative to growth-promoting subtherapeutic antibiotic use in swine feed.

Quantitative Analysis of Bisphenol A in Recycled Paper with a Novel Direct Inlet Probe-Atmospheric Pressure Photoionization–IonTrap-MS

A new ambient ion source was developed and its application to real samples has been *** ion source is based on a previously build ion source using chemical ionization under atmospheric pressure and extractive electrospray ionization(DIP-APCI/EESI).To enhance the range of analytes,we added to this ion source a photoionization lamp to enable also photoionization,which allows the possibility to analyze polar(EESI),middle(APCI)and non-polar(APPI)analytes with the same source and with no or only a small change of the *** comparison with DIP-APCI,this ion source reaches similar analytical limits but shows better sensitivity for some aromatic and non-polar *** analysis of bisphenol A from extracts of recycled paper demonstrates the use of this ion source for real *** was possible by the use of a deuterated internal standard that was added to the papers before *** atmospheric pressure chemical ionization leads to bad results due to ion suppression,whereas atmospheric pressure photoionization shows results that fit to literature values.

Effects of vitamin supplementation on inflammatory markers and psychological wellbeing among distressed women:a randomized controlled trial

Background： Multivitamins are a popular supplement taken to promote physical and mental health. During periods of stress, they may have a protective role for health and wellbeing, although the current evidence of their efficacy is mixed. Objective： To determine whether multivitamin supplementation impacts psychological and inflammatory markers of women who are experiencing psychological distress. Design, setting, participants and interventions： An 8-week randomized controlled trial was conducted to assess changes in both psychological state and pro-inflammatory markers of patients receiving multivi- tamins or placebo. The sample comprised women who reported elevated psychological distress in the previous 4 weeks. Main outcome measures： Psychological state was assessed using Spielberger＇s State-Trait Personality Inventory to assess anxiety, curiosity, depression and anger. Pro-inflammatory markers comprised interleukin （IL）-113, IL-5, IL-6, turnout necrosis factor （TNF）-α and TNF-6. Results： Improvements across time were observed for all psychological measures and cytokines, except IL-5, but were independent of the active intervention. Only TNF-β demonstrated a significant differential change between groups over the course of the intervention, in favour of multivitamin supplementation （active group mean rank decreased from 11.1 to 7.1 ; placebo group mean rank decreased from 8.9 to 7.8）. Conclusion： The results suggest that administration of multivitamins was not effective in improving psychological stare. However, some evidence supported the positive impact of multivitamin supplementation on pro-inflammatory cytokine profiles of women currently experiencing stress.
