Nanoparticles(NPs)can be transported via the nose-to-brain(N_(2)B)***,quantitative data on their spatiotemporal dynamics and regulation of the N_(2)B transport are largely *** surveyed metal oxide/hydroxide NPs as magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)contrasts for quantitative N_(2)B *** containing divalent transition metals were the only ones capable of N_(2)B *** T1-weighted(T1W)MRI,we showed that Mn_(3)O_(4)-NPs were readily engulfed by olfactory receptor neurons(ORNs)without disrupting olfactory sensing,we mapped their N_(2)B *** neurons,the Mn_(3)O_(4)-NPs were localized to the cytosol,mitochondria,vesicles,moved at mixed fast and slow axonal transport velocities intraand extra-vesicularly through *** NPs’axonal transport is dependent on neuronal activity and microtubule *** Mn_(3)O_(4)-NPs were trans-synaptically transmitted through at least four synapses across the olfactory ***-synaptic transmission of the NPs was dependent on N-type Ca^(2+)channels and NMDA receptors but blocked by GABAB receptor activation.A five-parameter Weibull signal increase/decrease model fitted to the T1W MRI data allowed for estimating kinetic parameters of Mn_(3)O_(4)-NP accumulation/*** and relative accumulation rates,but not elimination,correlated negatively with the number of synapses from ORNs,indicating a coupling of the NPs’N_(2)B transport with spontaneous neuronal ***,olfactory stimuli(2,5-dimethylpyrazine and acetophenone)significantly modulated and rerouted the Mn_(3)O_(4)-NP N_(2)B transport odor ***,the NPs’trans-synaptic transmission was impaired by aging and the onset of Parkinson’s *** data suggest new approaches to diagnostics,functional neuroimaging,controlling N_(2)B drug delivery.

Fungal infection dynamics in response to temperature in the lepidopteran insect Galleria mellonella

This study examines how the dynamics of fungus-insect interactions can be modulated by temperature. The wax moth, Galleria mellonella, is a well-studied and important model insect whose larvae in the wild develop optimally at around 34 ℃ in beehives. However, surprisingly little research on wax moths has been conducted at relevant temperatures. In this study, the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii inflicted rapid and substantial mortality on wax moth larvae maintained at a constant temperature of 24 ℃, but at 34 ℃ a 10 fold higher dose was required to achieve an equivalent mortality. The cooler temperature favored fungal pathogenicity, with condial adhesion to the cuticle, germination and hemocoel invasion all significantly enhanced at 24 ℃, compared with 34 ℃. The wax moth larvae immune responses altered with the temperature, and with the infective dose of the fungus. Enzyme-based immune defenses （lysozyme and phenoloxidase） exhibited enhanced activity at the warmer temperature. A dramatic upregulation in the basal expression of galiomicin and gallerimycin was triggered by cooling, and this was augmented in the presence of the fungus. Profiling of the predominant insect epicuticular fatty acids revealed a 4-7 fold increase in palmetic, oleic and linoleic acids in larvae maintained at 24 ℃ compared with those at 34 ℃, but these failed to exert fungistatic effects on topically applied fungus. This study demonstrates the importance of choosing environmental conditions relevant to the habitat of the insect host when determining the dynamics and outcome of insect/fungus interactions, and has particular significance for the application of entomopathogens as biocontrol agents.

Residual and compensatory changes of resting-state EEG in successful recovery after moderate TBI

Purpose:Even in years after recovery from moderate traumatic brain injury(moderate TBI),patients complain about residual cognitive impairment and *** hypothesized that non-linear and linear resting-state electroencephalography(rs EEG)features might also reflect neural underpinnings of these ***:We analyzed a 10-minute rs EEG in 77 moderate TBI-survivors and 151 healthy volunteers after cognitive and psychological *** rs EEG analysis included linear measures,such as power spectral density and peak alpha frequency,and non-linear parameters such as Higuchi fractal dimension,envelope frequency,and Hjorth ***:The patients with moderate TBI had higher scores for fatigue and sleepiness and lower scores for mood and life satisfaction than *** behavioral test for directed attention showed a smaller and non-significant between-group *** rs EEG patterns,moderate TBI-group had significantly higher deltaand theta-rhythm power,which correlated with higher sleepiness and fatigue *** higher beta and lower alpha power were associated with a higher attention level in moderate TBI ***-linear rs EEG features were significantly higher in moderate TBI patients than in healthy controls but correlated with sleepiness and fatigue scores in both controls and ***:The rs EEG patterns may reflect compensatory processes supporting directed attention and residual effect of moderate TBI causing subjective fatigue in patients even after full physiological recovery.

Accumulation and migration of elements-pollutants in “soil-plant” system within urban territory

In the urbanized territory (the Irkutsk city), the content of sulfur and heavy metals (lead, cadmium, copper, zinc) in soil profile horizons and leaves (needles) arboreal plants were studied. High accumulation of polluting elements in pine and larch needles, birch and poplar leaves, as well as in all genetic horizons of the city soils was shown. There were revealed elements disbalance in city trees assimilation organs showing in the increase of the polluting elements quota with the parallel decrease of the quota of nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, potassium, manganese. Pollutants concentration in trees needles (leaves) was shown to be closely related to their content in soil horizons. The results speak in favor of high migration ability of polluting elements in soil profile and about possibility their entrance in trees root system and further to assimilation organs from all city soils horizons. It can be concluded that data on accumulation and migration of polluting elements in soils and arboreal trees assimilation organs contribute to adequate assessment of technogenic load on urban ecosystems.

Ion exchange recovery of palladium (II) from nitrate weak acidic solutions

Sorption recovery of palladium (II) from nitrate weak acidic model solutions and solutions of spent catalysts on some ion exchangers with different physical and chemical structure has been investigated. The palladium concentration in contacting solutions was 5.0 ? 10-5 – 1.0 ? 10-3 mol/L at nitric acid and potassium nitrate con-centrations 0.01 and 1.0 mol/L, respectively. It was shown that anion exchangers Av-17-8 as well as Purolite S 985 and A 500 possess the best sorption and kinetic properties. These sorbents can be recommended for selective recovery of palladium from solutions of spent catalysts.

Diatomic Gaseous Sulfur Obtained at Low Temperature Catalytic Decomposition of Hydrogen Sulfide

Experimental evidences of occurrence of gaseous diatomic sulfur produced in the low temperature catalytic decomposition of hydrogen sulfide 2 H2S ←→ 2 H2 ＋ S2 （g） are summarized. The S2 molecule is suggested to be in the ground triplet state. Analysis of literature data allows concluding that the S2 metastable singlet state is realized in the thermal dissociation of hydrogen sulfide and solid sulfur. Arguments in favor of the hypothesis are been discussed.

The Relationship between Aggressiveness and Gender in Patients with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

Purpose: To examine the impact of gender and social gender on the level and typology of interictal aggressiveness in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy. Material and Methods: 40 adult patients with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) and 86 healthy individuals were included. The qualitative and quantitative aggressiveness assess- ment was made with Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory. The gender role behavior was measured with Bem Sex Role Inventory. Results: Patients with TLE didn’t differ from healthy subjects on the total scores of motor and attitudinal hostility components, but scored higher on subscales “resentment” and “guilt”. The comparative gender analysis showed there were no phenomenological differences in people with TLE. Assault dominated in healthy male subjects, resentment—in healthy female subjects. The prevalence of feminine social gender type was significantly higher in people with TLE in comparison to healthy people (55% vs. 26%, p 0.01). In patients with TLE, the number of masculine traits positively correlated with indirect hostility subscale and attitudinal hostility component scores. In healthy subjects, the masculine traits positively correlated with assault.

Brentuximab vedotin Monotherapy and Combined with Low Dose Donor Lymphocyte Infusion to Control Minimal Residual Disease and Sustain Clinical Remission in a Child with Relapsed Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma

Minimal residual disease (MRD) appears to have a strong negative predictive value for disease recurrence in children with anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Brentuximab vedotin (Bv) can be a therapeutic option for MRD-positive patients to achieve molecular remission and to decrease risk of subsequent relapse. We here report a 4-year-old child with ALCL progression during relapse treatment who received Bv as a bridging therapy before haploidentical hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation, and as a maintenance therapy post-transplant alone or combined with simultaneous low dose donor-lymphocyte infusions. MRD monitoring showed a complete molecular response and reflected both Bv efficiency and graft-versus-lymphoma effect.
