Objective: To evaluate the alpha-defensin (α-DF) genes polymorphism in women with vulvovaginal candidiasis and recurrence. Methods: This observational study included clinical vaginal secretion samples collected over four years from 88 women, ranging in age from 18 to 65 years, from medical centers of Sao Paulo and Mogi das cruzes, Brazil. Thirty-six of these women were asymptomatic (control group) and 52 presented clinical condition compatible with vulvovaginitis (38 primary or episodic as non-recurrent forms, and 14 recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis). A portion of each sample was plated on Sabouraud dextrose agar with chloramphenicol and grown on cHROMagar candida for presumptive characterization. The identification of the species was obtained by sequencing of the ITS1 region of rDNA. α-DF genes were amplified for subsequent evaluation of polymorphisms by endonuclease restriction assay. Results: From 88 samples were isolated 60 candida albicans and 28 non-albicans candida spp. Resistant c. albicans strains and non-albicans candida spp. were more prevalent in recurrence. In all groups, the number of resistant non-albicans candida spp. was most high than susceptible strains. α-DF1, α-DF3 and α-DF1/α-DF3 genotypes were found in 32 (36.4%), 17 (19.3%), 6 (6.8%) vaginal samples, respectively. About 33 samples were not amplified. Recurrence and severe disease were more observed in homozygous population. conclusions: Non-albicans candida spp. and homozygotic α-DF genotipes (α-DF1 and α-DF3) were more related with severe clinical signs and recurrence. Further studies about vulvovaginal candidiasis and α-DF genes are necessary to access the more comprehensive role of defensins in clinical manifestations.

In all studies that analyzed biodiesel pollution effect of this compound on animals and especially marine animals. Biodiesel (methanol and sodium hydroxide) as to be taken into account. Less emphasis is placed on biodiesel pollution of soils and waters (which can occur in the event of an environmental accident), which is considered a biodegradable product. But an accidental pollution due to the derailment of a freight train (August 12, 2020 on the cF line the Bucharest-craiova highway, in the area of the cF bridge from cârcea locality, Dolj county, Romania), confirmed the lack of knowledge in this field, as well as the way of depollution and restoration of the environment. This article describes how to pollute the soil with biodiesel, as well as the mathematical equations that describe this phenomenon.

Globally, 69.6 million individuals were infected with hepatitis c virus (HcV) infection in 2016. Of the six major HcV genotypes (GT), the most predominant one is GT1, worldwide. The prevalence of HcV in central Asia, which includes most of the commonwealth of Independent States (cIS), has been estimated to be 5.8% of the total global burden. The predominant genotype in the cIS and Ukraine regions has been reported to be GT1, followed by GT3. Inadequate HcV epidemiological data, multiple socio-economic barriers, and the lack of regionspecific guidelines have impeded the optimal management of HcV infection in this region. In this regard, a panel of regional experts in the field of hepatology convened to discuss and provide recommendations on the diagnosis, treatment, and pre-, on-, and posttreatment assessment of chronic HcV infection and to ensure the optimal use of cost-effective antiviral regimens in the region. A comprehensive evaluation of the literature along with expert recommendations for the management of GT1-GT6 HcV infection with the antiviral agents available in the region has been provided in this review. This consensus document will help guide clinical decision-making during the management of HcV infection, further optimizing treatment outcomes in these regions.

The extent of participation and changes of glycophorins (GPs) and membrane proteins in the merozoite-human erythrocyte interaction during the invasion of Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) were studied by immunobiotting techniques. Polycional antisera to αGP and to its c-terminal fragment (residues 82-131) as well as M and N specific monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) were used. We examined the GPs in the parasite-free saponin lysates, saponin pellets and the culture supernatants of the infected erythrocytes in comparison with the mock cultured normal RBc. Excepting the usual GP patterns, a GP with molecular weight of 77.5 K (band 1’) existed in the parasitized erythrocytes and their saponin pellets and several GP bands ranging from 28K to 54K were present in saponin pellets when probed with anti-GP and anti-peptide c sera. This reflected the disintegration of erythrocyte membrane αGP through the invasion of Pf. The α2GP in the saponin pellets of the parasitized MM erythrocytes surprisingly cross-reacted with the N MoAb, implying that it may have come from the intermingling of the host αGP in MM erythrocytes with the parasite αGP reacting to N MoAb. The saponin pellets of parasitized erythrocytes preserved a considerable amount of ankyrin, band 3, protein 4.1 and 4.2, while the GP bands were densely mixed with the parasite proteins and the disintegrated products of membrane proteins. Four erythrocyte-binding antigens (EBA) of 143K, 135K, 115K and 107K recognized by malaria hyperimmune serum were detected in the culture supernatants of Pf, some of them appeared in the infected erythrocytes, their saponin lysates and pellets.

The purpose of this study was to estimate the coniacian latitudinal thermal gradient in the Northern Hemisphere. Both hemipelagic （ammonoids） and benthic （brachiopods and bivalves） δ18O and δ^13c records were used. They originated from coniacian shallow-water sequences across a wide range of paleolatitudes, from the Koryak upland （northern Kamchatka, Russian Far East） in the north, to Hokkaido （Japan） in the south. Among coniacian ammonoids, both migrants from Hokkaido living in high latitudes （Kamchatka） and endemic forms dwelling in middle-low latitudes （Hokkaido） indicate seemingly close optimal growth temperatures. Nevertheless, certain differences in climatic conditions, prevailing during high-latitude coldest seasons, undoubtedly provoked growth cessation in some groups of ammonites. Our isotopic study suggests latitudinal temperature changes of only 0.12 ℃ per degree of latitude for the Northern Hemisphere in coniacian times, while the average annual temperature in North Kamchatka seems about 3.3 ℃ lower than that in Hokkaido.

Background china is one of the high burden countries of Mycobacterium tuberculosis （TB） infection globally, with high incidence and mortality. We studied the molecular characteristics of rifampin （RIF） and isoniazid （INH） resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains from Beijing, china, in order to find out the genetic marker for rapid detection of specific drug resistance.Methods Forty pansusceptible and 81 resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolated from Beijing, china during 2002-2005 were analyzed. The modified rifampin oligonucleotide （RIFO） assay based on reverse line blot hybridization was used to detect mutations in the 81 bp hot-spot region of rpoB gene, which is associated with RIF resistance. The INH resistance associated genes, regulatory region mab-inhA （-15c/T） and structural gene katG S315T were detected by reverse line blot hybridization and PcR-restriction fragment length polymorphism （RFLP） method respectively. All the strains were typed by spoligotying and the Beijing genotype was further subdivided by NTF locus analysis. The distribution of drug resistance associated mutations in the above genes was compared in these groups. Results Sixty-five （91.5%） of 71 RIF resistant and 52 （92.9%） of 56 multidrug-resistant （MDR, i.e. resistant to at least RIF and INH） strains were found to harbor mutations in the rpoB hot-spot region. No mutation was detected in RIF sensitive strains. The specificity and sensitivity of the modified RIFO assay were 100% and 91.5%, respectively, katG315 AGc〉Acc and inhA-15c〉T mutations were found in 40 （60.6%） and 10 （15.2%） of 66 INH resistant strains, respectively; 7.6% of INH-resistant strains had mutations in both of these genes. Therefore, a combined use of both katG315 and inhA-15 identified 68.2% of INH-resistant strains. The Beijing genotype accounted for 91.7% of total strains and was further subdivided into ＂modern＂（76.6%） and ＂ancestral＂（23.4%） group. There is no significant difference between ＂an
