We consider the problem of year-round cooling of water-saturated soil to freezing temperatures in order to convert it into a state of permafrost.A new soil-cooling apparatus is *** apparatus is to be made in modular form and connected to passive-active thermal piles(thermosyphons).The estimated capacity of one apparatus allows simultaneous use of up to 1,000 thermal piles for ground *** apparatus is based on natural sources of energy:solar radiation and wind;and it can be used for soil *** approach can prevent thawing of soft soils under railways and roads,as well as under buildings or structures,in an area of more than tens of *** apparatus has no mechanical moving parts and can operate for a long time in stand-alone mode without staff involvement.

Predictive assessments of the geomorphological systems’ behavior under climate warming in southern Siberia have been performed based on time-series data, using theoretical and empirical models of processes. High sensitivity and fast response of erosional, aeolian, and cryogenic processes to current climatic changes are presented. The current trends under changing functioning conditions of geomorphological systems while maintaining climatic trends have been determined. Areas with different targeting of morpholithogenesis are identified.

Different discharge morphologies in atmospheric Ar and He plasmas are excited by using a pulsed microwave hairpin *** plasmas form an arched plasma plume at the opened end of the hairpin,whereas He plumes generate only a contracted plasmas in between both tips of metal *** this different point,their discharge processes have three similar characteristics:(i)the ionization occurs at the main electrode firstly and then develops to the slave electrode,(ii)during the shrinking stage the middle domain of the discharge channels disappears at last,and(iii)even at zero power input(in between pulses)a weak light region always exists in the discharge *** experimental results and electromagnetic simulations suggest that the discharge is resonantly excited by the local enhanced electric *** addition,Ar ionization and excitation energies are lower than those of He,the effect of Ar gas flow is far greater than that of He gas,and the contribution of accelerated electrons only locates at the domain with the strongest electric *** reasons could be used to interpret the different characteristic plume morphologies of the proposed atmospheric Ar and He plasmas.

There were investigated levels of pro-inflammatory and regulatory cytokines (IL-1b, IL-6 and IFN-g) in women of reproductive age in periods of exacerbation and remission of chronic infection caused by the herpes simplex virus in purpose to study the pathogenetic features of the course of HSV infection. It is shown that both the period of exacerbation, and the period of clinical remission of chronic herpes infection are characterized by increased production of IFN-g, IL-1b and IL-6. However, only the mean values of IL-1b were significantly different in periods of exacerbation and remission. Moreover, patients with chronic herpes infection revealed significant heterogeneity of individual values of measured cytokines (IL-1b, IL-6 and IFN-g), which does not depend on the period of clinical disease.

Understanding the conformational flexibility of the insulin drugs is of great importance for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Once in the body, the drug must have a certain degree of mobility within a specified period of time for the manifestation of its pharmacological properties. This mobility ensures conformational states necessary for binding with the insulin receptor and activating specific biological processes. In this work we investigated conformational flexibility of the pharmacologically important insulin analogues—insulin lispro, insulin aspart, insulin glulisine, and insulin glargine, using the molecular dynamics simulation method. This study provides new insight into the nature of behaviour of A-and b-chains. It has been found out that b-chain substitutions result in rapid acting, while long-lasting action can be achieved by substitutions in both chains. The results of this study can be used for development of new insulin-based antidiabetic drugs.

bacillus anthracis is the causative agent of anthrax, a bacterial infection with a high mortality rate [1-3]. Although anthrax infection can be cutaneous, gastrointestinal or pulmonary, the pulmonary form is the most deadly [2,3]. Thus, the release of bacillus anthracis spores that can be inhaled represents a potent bioterrorism threat;the capacity of b. anthracis spores to act as a bioterrorism weapon was demonstrated in 2001, with the intentional infection of 22 persons in the U.S.A. [2,4]. Until recently, the available vaccines were developed to confer protection against cutaneous infection;despite this, these vaccines demonstrated experimental efficacy against pulmonary infection in multiple animal models [1,2]. Nevertheless, there are many limitations for these vaccines to be considered successful and effective vaccine, including the intensity of the required vaccination schedule, the administration route and the presence of local adverse effects experienced after vaccination [1,3,5,6]. To develop more efficient vaccines against pulmonary anthrax, intranasal formulations with adjuvant have been studied. These formulations have advantages because they are easy to administer and because they are expected to induce both systemic and respiratory tract mucosal immune responses. Therefore, the main goal of this review is to compare the different experimental adjuvants used with anthrax antigens and the different approaches regarding the vaccination schedule and consecutive boosters.

Functional MRI was used to map the brains of subjects on-line during the process of media training for the acquisition and improvement of self-regulation mechanisms. The temporal and spatial dynamics of the new neural network formation were studied in real and simulated (false) biofeedback game, and their qualitative characteristics were discussed. It has been shown that immersion into a virtual competitive game, controlled by physiological responses, causes a wide involvement of the cortices, characterized by a high volume of activation in the mid-temporal, occipital and frontal areas, the cuneus and the precuneus. In both forms of media training, high values of activation volume were identified in the cerebellar structures.

Plants, as sessile organisms, need to sense and adapt to heterogeneous environments and have developed sophisticated responses by changing their cellular physiology, gene regulation, and genome stability. Recent work dem- onstrated heritable stress effects on the control of genome stability in plants--a phenomenon that was suggested to be of epigenetic nature. Here, we show that temperature and UV-b stress cause immediate and heritable changes in the epi- genetic control of a silent reporter gene in Arabidopsis. This stress-mediated release of gene silencing correlated with pronounced alterations in histone occupancy and in histone H3 acetylation but did not involve adjustments in DNA meth- ylation. We observed transmission of stress effects on reporter gene silencing to non-stressed progeny, but this effect was restricted to areas consisting of a small number of cells and limited to a few non-stressed progeny generations. Further- more, stress-induced release of gene silencing was antagonized and reset during seed aging. The transient nature of this phenomenon highlights the ability of plants to restrict stress-induced relaxation of epigenetic control mechanisms, which likely contributes to safeguarding genome integrity.
