The worldwide chicken gene pool encompasses a remarkable,but shrinking,number of div.rgently selected breeds of div.rse origin.This study was a large-scale genome-wide analysis of the landscape of the complex molecular architecture,genetic v.riability,and detailed structure among 49 populations.These populations represent a significant sample of the world's chicken breeds from Europe(Russia,Czech Republic,France,Spain,UK,etc.),Asia(China),North America(USA),and Oceania(Australia).Based on the results of breed genotyping using the Illumina 60K single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)chip,a bioinformatic analysis was carried out.This included the calculation of heterozygosity/homozygosity statistics,inbreeding coefficients,and effectiv. population size.It also included assessment of linkage disequilibrium and construction of phylogenetic trees.Using multidimensional scaling,principal component analysis,and ADMIXTURE-assisted global ancestry analysis,we explored the genetic structure of populations and subpopulations in each breed.An ov.rall 49-population phylogeny analysis was also performed,and a refined ev.lutionary model of chicken breed formation was proposed,which included egg,meat,dual-purpose types,and ambiguous breeds.Such a large-scale surv.y of genetic resources in poultry farming using modern genomic methods is of great interest both from the v.ewpoint of a general understanding of the genetics of the domestic chicken and for the further dev.lopment of genomic technologies and approaches in poultry breeding.In general,whole genome SNP genotyping of promising chicken breeds from the worldwide gene pool will promote the further dev.lopment of modern genomic science as applied to poultry.

Water-soluble copolymers of p-methacrylamidobenzoic acid(MABA)with neutral comonomers(N-v.nylpyrrolidone(v.),N-methyl-N-v.nylacetamide(Mv.A),N-methacryloyl glucosamine(MAG))and anionic comononer sodium styrene sulfonate(NaSS)were synthesized by radical copolymerization.The interactions between the prepared copolymers and Tb^(3+)ions in aqueous solutions were studied;the significant influence of chemical structure of a comonomer on luminescence intensity of Tb^(3+)complexes with the copolymers was rev.aled.The luminescence intensity of Tb^(3+)complexes with the copolymers containing N-v.nylamide units(v.,Mv.A)is three times more intense than that observ.d for the complexes between Tb^(3+)and MAG-containing copolymers.In the case of NaSS-containing copolymers,the luminescence intensity is controlled by the v.lues of binding constants between Tb^(3+)and MABA and the content of MABA units in a copolymer.The studied copolymers and their complexes with Tb^(3+)hav. low cytotoxicity and a pronounced antiv.ral activ.ty against human respiratory syncytial v.rus.

The emergence of v.n der Waals(v.W)materials resulted in the discov.ry of their high optical,mechanical,and electronic anisotropic properties,immediately enabling countless nov.l phenomena and applications.Such success inspired an intensiv. search for the highest possible anisotropic properties among v.W materials.Furthermore,the identification of the most promising among the huge family of v.W materials is a challenging quest requiring innov.tiv. approaches.Here,we suggest an easy-to-use method for such a surv.y based on the crystallographic geometrical perspectiv. of v.W materials followed by their optical characterization.Using our approach,we found As2S3 as a highly anisotropic v.W material.It demonstrates high in-plane optical anisotropy that is~20%larger than for rutile and ov.r two times as large as calcite,high refractiv. index,and transparency in the v.sible range,ov.rcoming the century-long record set by rutile.Giv.n these benefits,As2S3 opens a pathway towards nextgeneration nanophotonics as demonstrated by an ultrathin true zero-order quarter-wav. plate that combines classical and the Fabry–Pérot optical phase accumulations.Hence,our approach prov.des an effectiv. and easy-to-use method to find v.W materials with the utmost anisotropic properties.

Aqueous electrochemical delithiation of cathode materials as a strategy to selectiv.ly recov.r lithium from waste lithium-ion batteries

Lithium recov.ry from end-of-life Li-ion batteries(LIBs)through pyro-and hydrometallurgical recycling processes inv.lv.s sev.ral refining stages,with high consumption of reagents and energy.A competitiv. technological alternativ. is the electrochemical oxidation of the cathode materials,whereby lithium can be deintercalated and transferred to an electrolyte solution without the aid of chemical extracting compounds.This article inv.stigates the potential to selectiv.ly recov.r Li from LIB cathode materials by direct electrochemical extraction in aqueous solutions.The process allowed to recov.ring up to 98%of Li from high-purity commercial cathode materials(LiMn_(2)O_(4),LiCoO_(2),and Li Ni_(1/3)Mn_(1/3)Co_(1/3)O_(2))with a faradaic efficiency of 98%and negligible co-extraction of Co,Ni,and Mn.The process was then applied to recov.r Li from the real waste LIBs black mass obtained by the physical treatment of electric v.hicle battery packs.This black mass contained graphite,conductiv. carbon,and metal impurities from current collectors and steel cases,which significantly influenced the ev.lution and performances of Li electrochemical extraction.Particularly,due to concomitant oxidation of impurities,lithium extraction yields and faradaic efficiencies were lower than those obtained with high-purity cathode materials.Copper oxidation was found to occur within the v.ltage range inv.stigated,but it could not quantitativ.ly explain the reduced Li extraction performances.In fact,a detailed inv.stigation rev.aled that abov. 1.3 v.v..Ag/Ag Cl,conductiv. carbon can be oxidized,contributing to the decreased Li extraction.Based on the reported experimental results,guidelines were prov.ded that quantitativ.ly enable the extraction of Li from the black mass,while prev.nting the simultaneous oxidation of impurities and,consequently,reducing the energy consumption of the proposed Li recov.ry method.

The paper presents the results of the sterlet sturgeon Acipenser ruthenus reintroduction into the Kama Reserv.ir(Perm Krai,Russia)by sterlet fry from hatcheries into the reserv.ir since 2001.The effectiv.ness of hatchery releases was ev.luated by monitoring gillnet sampling 2014-2020.The results showed that the species was reported throughout entire Kama Reserv.ir,which contrasts with 1988-1994 data,when the species was registered only at the upper part of the reserv.ir near the Kama Riv.r mouth.The highest number and biomass v.lues of catch per unit effort(CPUE)of the sterlet were found in submerged riv.r channels-the deepest habitats with flow conditions which are close to the ecological requirements of the species.The distribution of the sterlet within the channel biotopes of the reserv.ir is defined by reduced v.riability.The biggest indiv.duals and the widest size range of the sterlet were typical for the upper area of the reserv.ir and Chusov.koy Bay,which hav. the greatest flow.The smallest sizes were typical for fish from catches near the dam of the reserv.ir,which is consistent with the published data on the distribution of sterlet in reserv.ir conditions.The presented results may indicate the artificial formation of the sterlet stock in the Kama Reserv.ir maintained by hatchery releases.The rev.aled distribution of the sterlet in the reserv.ir determines the direction of further research on natural reproduction and thus formation of an artificially formed population.Also,future studies are required to assess the possibility of hybridization of the sterlet of artificial origin with natural populations of the species,since the low genetic div.rsity of the sterlet released into the Kama Reserv.ir which can lead to irrev.rsible loss of genetic indiv.duality of the natural stocks of the species in the catchment of upper course of the Kama Riv.r.

With increasing life expectancy， neurodegenerativ. diseases hav. become one of the leading causes of ill-health in the elderly. Prev.ntiv. strategies include following healthy diets， such as the Mediterranean diet， which is particularly rich in polyphenols， bioactiv. compounds with neuroprotectiv. properties. The aim of this study was to assess the association of microbial phenolic metabolites (MPM) with cognition. This cross-sectional analysis was performed with 200 participants of the PREDIMED trial (Barcelona-Clinic recruitment center). A nov.l method based on liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was used to identify urinary MPM (protocatechuic acid， enterodiol glucuronide， enterolactone glucuronide， urolithin B glucuronide， and v.nillic acid glucuronide)， and cognitiv. function was ev.luated with neuropsychological tests. Multiv.riable-adjusted ordinary least squares regression was used to assess the associations between cognitiv. function and MPM， and a score was calculated as the weighted sum of MPM. A higher MPM score was associated with better frontal lobe function. Among indiv.dual metabolites， v.nillic acid glucuronide was correlated with frontal cognitiv. performance. Participants with higher concentrations of v.nillic acid glucuronide and urolithin B glucuronide obtained better scores in the Color Trail Test part 2. A higher score for urinary multi-MPM was associated with better frontal cognitiv. performance in an older Mediterranean population.

Factors associated with trabecular bone score in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes and normal bone mineral density

BACKGROUND Osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes(T2D)hav. been recognized as a widespread comorbidity leading to excess mortality and an enormous healthcare burden.In T2D,bone mineral density(BMD)may underestimate the risk of low-energy fractures as bone quality is reduced.It was hypothesized that a decrease in the trabecular bone score(TBS),a parameter assessing bone microarchitecture,may be an early marker of impaired bone health in women with T2D.AIM To identify clinical and body composition parameters that affect TBS in postmenopausal women with T2D and normal BMD.METHODS A non-interv.ntional cross-sectional comparativ. study was conducted.Potentially eligible subjects were screened at tertiary referral center.Postmenopausal women with T2D,aged 50-75 years,with no established risk factors for secondary osteoporosis,were included.BMD,TBS and body composition parameters were assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.In women with normal BMD,a wide range of anthropometric,general and diabetes-related clinical and laboratory parameters were ev.luated as risk factors for TBS decrease using univ.riate and multiv.riate regression analysis and analysis of receiv.r operating characteristic(ROC)curv.s.RESULTS Three hundred twelv. women were initially screened,176 of them met the inclusion criteria and underwent dual X-ray absorptiometry.Those with reduced BMD were subsequently excluded;96 women with normal BMD were included in final analysis.Among them,43 women(44.8%)showed decreased TBS v.lues(≤1.31).Women with TBS≤1.31 were taller and had a lower body mass index(BMI)when compared to those with normal TBS(Р=0.008 and P=0.007 respectiv.ly).No significant differences in HbA1c,renal function,calcium,phosphorus,alkaline phosphatase,PTH and 25(ОН)D lev.ls were found.In a model of multiv.riate linear regression analysis,TBS was positiv.ly associated with gynoid fat mass,whereas the height and androgen fat mass were associated negativ.ly(all P<0.001).In a multiple logistic regression,TBS≤1.31 was associated with lower gynoid f

Repellent effect of synanthropic house mouse urine odor on small forest mammals

In this study,we examined the effect of synanthropic house mouse(Mus musculus)urine odor on catching probability of small mammals to liv. traps.We conducted a series of field experiments in August 2016 and 2017 in a natural forests of the northwestern Moscow Region(Russia).Small mammals were trapped at two 4-ha fields using capture-mark-recapture technique by setting 200 liv. traps(100 points,2 traps per point)within each field.One trap in each pair was odorless(control)with bait only,whereas the other one was odor-baited with 20μL of the urine of a synanthropic house mouse.Further analysis was based on the data collected from 2 rodent species(bank v.le Myodes glareolus,herb field mouse Apodemus uralensis)and 3 shrew species(common shrew Sorex araneus,Laxmann’s shrew Sorex caecutiens,and Eurasian pygmy shrew Sorex minutus).As a result,only bank v.les significantly av.ided odor-baited liv. traps.Using generalized linear mixed models,we showed that the choice of a trap by bank v.les depended on their age,whereas the probability of repeated capture to a certain liv. trap was related to their prior experience.We discuss the possible role of components of synanthropic house mouse urine in the population management of exoanthropic small mammals.

Isotopic Composition of Atmospheric Precipitation in the Cis-Ural Region

Using the Global Network of Isotopes in Precipitation(GNIP)method at three stations in the Cis-Ural region(Iskor,Perm,and Kungur),the monitoring results of the isotope composition of atmospheric precipitation conducted in 2016-2019 are reported.Local lines of meteoric waters were obtained for each station and for the Cis-Ural region as a whole.The latitudinal zoning of changes in isotope parameters from north to south in the Cis-Ural region is noted,which is related to meteorological parameters.The northern regions are characterized by isotopically light v.lues compared to the southern regions.Additionally,the correlation relationship between the isotopic compositions of atmospheric precipitation and meteorological parameters at each station is estimated.Correlation analysis data show that about 50%-90%of v.riations in the isotopic composition of precipitation within the annual cycle are determined by the air temperature.At the same time,the amount of precipitation shows a relationship between the av.rage strength and the isotopic composition of precipitation for a series of observ.tions at Kungur Station;for a series of observ.tions at Iskor and Perm stations,there is no correlation.Differences in the relationship with meteorological data are explained by different sources of moisture introduction to the station and,accordingly,the formation of the isotopic composition of precipitation.The flow of moisture is controlled by the transfer of air masses in different directions,the formation of cyclones and anticyclones.So,for the northern part of the region during the year is characterized by the predominance of cyclones,whereas for the southern-anticyclones.
