Background: During the last decades, deceased-donor liver transp.antation (DDLT) has gained a p.ace in the therap.utic algorithm of well-selected p.tients harbouring non-resectable secondary liver tumors. Living-donor LT (LDLT) might rep.esent a valuable means to further exp.nd this indication for LT. Methods: Between 1985 and 2016, twenty-two adults were transp.anted because of neuroendocrine ( n = 18, 82%) and colorectal metastases ( n = 4, 18%);50% received DDLT and 50% LDLT. In LDLT, 4 (36%) right and 7 (64%) left grafts were used;the median graft-to-recip.ent-weight ratios (GRWR) were 1.03%(IQR 0.86%- 1.30%) and 0.59%(IQR 0.51%- 0.91%), resp.ctively. Median p.st-LT follow-up.was 64 months (IQR 17–107) in the DDLT group.and 40 months (IQR 35–116) in the LDLT group. DDLT and LDLT recip.ents were comp.red in terms of overall survival, graft survival, p.stop.rative comp.ications and recurrence. Results: The 1- and 5-year actuarial p.tient survivals were 82% and 55% after DDLT, 100% and 100% after LDLT, resp.ctively ( p.p.p.rable. Donor hep.tectomy p.oved safe, and one donor exp.rienced a Clavien IIIb comp.ication. Bilirubin p.ak was significantly lower after left hep.tectomy comp.red with that after right hep.tectomy [1.3 (IQR 1.2–2.2) vs. 3.3 (IQR 2.3–5.2) mg/dL;p.= 0.02]. Conclusions: The more recent LDLT series comp.red favorably to our DDLT series in the treatment of secondary liver malignancies. The absence of p.rtal hyp.rtension and the use of smaller left grafts make recip.ent and donor surgeries safe. The safety of the p.ocedures and lack of interference with the scarce allograft p.ol are exp.cted to lead to a more frequent use of LDLT in the field of transp.ant oncology.

Five wild p.ant sp.cies belonging to different families (Chenop.dium album, p.antago major, Elytrigia elongata, Filip.ndula ulmaria and Nigella sativa) widely sp.ead in Russian Federation and the former USSR were evaluated for their ability to inhibit growth of two imp.rtant human food-borne p.thogens (Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes strain EGD-e) and eight p.ant p.thogens (Alternaria alternata, Alternaria tenuissima, Bip.laris sorokiniana, Stagonosp.ra nodorum, Fusarium solani, Fusarium oxysp.rum, Fusarium culmorum and p.ytop.tora infestans). To isolate biologically active comp.unds from seeds, a step.wise p.ocedure including extraction with hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and 10% acetic acid followed by reversed-p.ase Hp.C was develop.d. Using disc-diffusion assay, the highest activity against E. coli O157:H7 was observed with extracts from F. ulmaria (hexane and ethyl acetate extracts and the unbound Rp.Hp.C fraction) and p. major (ethyl acetate extract and the unbound Rp.Hp.C fraction);E. elongate (the unbound Rp.Hp.C fraction) was less active. The extracts from p. major and E. elongate (the unbound Rp.Hp.C fractions) were equally highly active against L. monocytogenes, while those of F. ulmaria (the unbound Rp.Hp.C fraction) and N. sativa (hexane and ethyl acetate extracts) were less active against this p.thogen. The dynamics of L. monocytogenes EGD-е and E. coli O157:H7 growth in the p.esence of two most p.tent extracts (Rp.Hp.C-unbound fractions of p. major and E. elongate and the hexane extract of F. ulmaria) was studied.

Various p.lymorp.isms in cytokine genes have recently been investigated as candidate risk factors in allogeneic hematop.etic stem cell transp.antation(allo-HSCT).We retrosp.ctively analyzed sp.cific p.lymorp.isms in genes for interleukin(IL)-10,IL-6,tumor-necrosis factor alp.a(TNF-α)and interferon gamma(IFN-c)in a p.diatric cohort of 57 histocomp.tibility leucocyte antigen(HLA)-identical sibling myeloablative *** recip.ent and donor genotyp.s were tested for association with graft-versus-host disease(GVHD)by statistical methods including Cox regression *** found a significant association between the IL-10 p.omoter hap.otyp. p.lymorp.isms at p.sitions-1082,-819 and-592 with the occurrence of severe(grades Ⅲ–Ⅳ)acute GVHD(aGVHD).Recip.ents with the hap.otyp. GCC had a statistically significant decreased risk of severe aGVHD(hazard risk(HR)50.20,95% confidence interval(CI):0.06–0.67)in comp.rison with p.tients with other IL-10 hap.otyp.s(p.0.008).Transp.ant-related mortality at 1 year was significantly lower in recip.ents with this hap.otyp.(HR50.17,95% CI:0.012–0.320)versus other IL-10 hap.otyp.s(p.0.03),whereas overall survival was not influenced by IL-10 hap.otyp. *** multivariate analysis,the p.esence of the IL-10 GCC hap.otyp. was found as the only variable associated with a statistically significant decreased hazard of severe aGVHD develop.ent(p.0.02,HR50.21,95% CI:0.05–0.78).These results suggest that p.diatric p.tients p.ssessing the IL-10 GCC hap.otyp. may be p.otected from the occurrence of severe aGVHD in the setting of matched sibling HSCT.

Zr（Ⅳ） surface sites determine CH3OH formation rate on Cu/ZrO2/SiO2-CO2 hydrogenation catalysts

Cu/ZrO2/SiO2 are efficient catalysts for the selective hydrogenation of CO2 to CH3OH. In order to understand the role of ZrO2 in these mixed-oxides based catalysts, in situ X-ray absorp.ion sp.ctroscop. has been carried out on the Cu and Zr K-edge. Under reaction conditions, Cu remains metallic, while Zr is p.esent in three typ.s of coordination environment associated with 1) bulk ZrO2, 2) coordinatively saturated and 3) unsaturated Zr(Ⅳ) surface sites. The amount of coordinatively unsaturated Zr surface sites can be quantified by linear combination fit of reference X-Ray absorp.ion near edge structure (XANES) sp.ctra and its amount correlates with CH3OH formation rates, thus indicating the imp.rtance of Zr(Ⅳ) Lewis acid surface sites in driving the selectivity toward CH3OH. This finding is consistent with the p.op.sed mechanism, where CO2 is hydrogenated at the interface between the Cu nanop.rticles that sp.it H2 and Zr(Ⅳ) surface sites that stabilizes reaction intermediates.

Lactobacillus acidop.ilus has several health benefits and is used as an adjunct bacterium in the manufacture of cultured dairy foods. Bile tolerance is an imp.rtant p.obiotic characteristic. p.lsed electric field (p.F) p.ocessing is non-thermal, hurdle technology which comp.ises of p.ssing fluid foods between two electrodes and subjecting them to p.lses of voltage for less than one second. Whether certain mild p.F conditions can enhance bile tolerance of Lactobacillus acidop.ilus is not known. The objective was to study the influence of certain p.F conditions on the, bile tolerance of Lactobacillus acidop.ilus LA-K. Lactobacillus acidop.ilus LA-K susp.nded in sterile p.p.one 0.1% w/v distilled water was treated with p.lse widths of 3, 6 and 9 μs, p.lse p.riods of 10,000;20,000 and 30,000 μs and electric field strengths of 5, 15 and 25 kV/cm. The control did not receive any p.lsed electric field condition. Bile tolerance was determined hourly for 16 hours. p.OC GLM of the Statistical Analysis Systems (SAS) was used for data analysis. Significant differences were determined at p.p.p.p.Lactobacillus acidop.ilus LA-K subjected to 5 kV/cm were signifycantly the highest while the bile tolerance when subjected to 25 kV/cm was significantly the lowest.

Lactobacillus acidop.ilus is an imp.rtant p.obiotic bacterium used for the p.oduction of fermented dairy p.oducts. Acid tolerance is an imp.rtant p.obiotic characteristic. The influence of p.F on acid tolerance of Lactobacillus acidop.ilus is not known. Objective of this study was to elucidate the influence of certain p.F conditions on the acid tolerance of Lactobacillus acidop.ilus LA-K. Freshly thawed Lactobacillus acidop.ilus LA-K was susp.nded in sterile p.p.one 0.1% w/v distilled water and treated in a p.lot p.ant p.F system. The treatments were p.lse width (3, 6 and 9 μs), p.lse p.riod (10,000;20,000 and 30,000 μs) and voltage (5, 15 and 25 kV/cm). Control was run through p.F system at 60 mL/min without receiving any p.lsed electric field condition. Data were analyzed using the p.OC GLM of the Statistical Analysis Systems (SAS). Differences of least square means were used to determine significant differences at p.Lactobacillus acidop.ilus LA-K lowered by increasing p.lse widths and voltages but lowering p.lse p.riods.

Environment chemical p.llution can be p.rsistent, and even virtually irremovable. For some chemicals in the workp.ace environment reliably safe low exp.sure levels are technically unattainable or p.esumably nonexistent. As a sup.lement to decreasing harmful exp.sures to as low levels as p.ssible, the “biological p.op.ylaxis” aims at enhancing host’s p.otective mechanisms. During over 30 years in animal exp.riments modeling isolated or combined chronic or subchronic exp.sures to silica, asbestos, monazite, lead, chromium, arsenic, manganese, nickel, vanadium, nanosilver, nanocop.er, formaldehyde, p.enol, nap.thalene, benzo(a)p.rene we tested so-called “biop.op.ylatic comp.exes” (Bp.s) comp.ising innocuous substances with theoretically exp.cted beneficial influence on the toxicokinetics and/or toxicodynamics of those toxics. The Bp.s p.oved p.otectively effective in animal exp.riments were then subjected to controlled field trials on restricted group. of volunteers. Once the effectiveness and safety of a Bp. was established, it was recommended for p.actical use, first of all, in the most vulnerable p.p.lation group. (children, p.egnant women) and in the most harmful occup.tions. At each stage of this work the effectiveness of the biop.op.ylactic ap.roach to chemical risks management was successfully demonstrated. The Bp.s tested up.to now p.oved cap.ble of mitigating systemic toxicity, cytotoxicity, fibrogenicity, and mutagenicity of the above-listed chemicals.

Identification of human p.p.llomavirus in esop.ageal squamous p.p.llomas

AIM： To investigate the p.esence of human p.p.llomavirus （Hp.） in esop.ageal squamous p.p.lloma （ESp. and determine p.6, p.3 and Ki67 exp.ession in a Mexican cohort. METHODS： Nineteen cases diagnosed as ESp. corresp.nding to 18 p.tients were reviewed; nineteen cases of normal esop.ageal mucosa were used as negative controls. Hp. detection was p.rformed by ,amp.ified chromogenic in situ hybridization （ACISH） using a wide sp.ctrum-cocktail p.obe and p.R. RESULTS： The average age at p.esentation was 46.3 years （range 28-72 years）. p.tients included four （22.22%） males and 14 （77.77%） females. The most frequent location was up.er third （11 cases）, followed by middle third （3 cases） and unknown site （5 cases）. Immunohistochemistry （IHC） revealed basal and focal p.3 exp.ession in 17 cases （89%）; p.6 was exp.essed in eight cases （42.10%） and the Ki67 index ranged from 10% to 30%. Hp. was detected in 14 out of 16 cases （87.5%） by ACISH： Twelve showed diffuse nuclear p.tterns and two showed granular p.tterns. Hp. DNA was identified by p.R in 12 out of 14 cases （85.7%）. Low-risk Hp. typ.s were detected in the most of the cases. CONCLUSION： This study p.ovides identification of Hp. infection in almost 80% of ESp.using either ACISH or p.R; overall, all of these lesions show low exp.ession of cell-cycle markers. We suggest ACISH as an alternative diagnostic tool for Hp. detection in ESR .
