background:Tomato is the second most important vegetable around the *** processing of the fruit generates waste such as damaged tomatoes,pulp,skin,seeds,and tomato-derived products that contain valuable biomolecules with functional and technological *** fruit extracts,mainly from waste,possess bioactive molecules,such as lycopene,with important biological applications in some *** and approach:The objective of this review is to analyze,discuss and synthesize the technologies that have been used for the extraction and recovery of the main lycopene present in tomato *** revised methodologies expose valuable results in the number of carotenoids recovered through the application of solvents,microwave-assisted,ultrasound-assisted,enzymatic-assisted,extraction at high pressure,and supercritical ***,the challenges continue concerning the quality of extracted compounds,economic accessibility,industrial reproducibility,and environmental *** findings and conclusions:The tomato waste contains important bioactive molecules,which are of interest in the food,pharmacological,biotechnological,and cosmetic *** information revised in this contribution pretends to support new research lines concerning the formulation of novel tomato waste bio-based functional ***,it is necessary to further analyze the new extraction and recovery conditions to keep the functional properties of this by-product.

Postharvest losses remain a signiﬁcant challenge,particularly in developing countries that have inadequate *** plants offer an eco-friendly and sustainable solution for managing diseases and pests in agri-cultural *** plants are rich in bioactive compounds,such as alkaloids,ﬂavonoids,terpenoids,phenolics,and essential oils,many of which have proven antimicrobial,antifungal,insecticidal,and antioxidant *** characteristics make medicinal plants viable candidates for postharvest disease and pest *** these,Larrea tridentata(creosote bush)is particularly notable for its bioactive compounds with strong antifungal *** potential applications include agriculture,food preservation,and *** study aimed to evaluate how different solvent mixtures affect the efﬁciency of ultrasound-assisted extraction,total polyphenol content,antioxidant capacity,and antifungal activity of *** leaves and ***ﬁndings revealed that the 60%ethanol ultrasound-assisted extract of *** leaves(ULL 60%)contained the highest concentration of bioactive compounds,including hydrolysable tannins(690.2 mg GAE/100 g)and condensed tan-nins(329.9 mg CE/100 g).All extracts demonstrated notable antioxidant activity in AbTS,DPPH,and FRAP assays,with ethanol-based extracts showing greater antioxidant potential than their aqueous *** terms of antifungal efﬁcacy,100%ethanol leaf extract exhibited the strongest inhibition against Fusarium oxyspor-um(60.03%),whereas 50%ethanol extract effectively inhibited Alternaria alternata(53.61%).Six major polyphe-nolic compounds were identiﬁed using reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry(RP-HPLC-ESI-MS).These include quercetin,luteolin,3,4-dihydrox-yphenylethanol,elenolic acid,nordihydroguaiaretic acid(NDGA),and *** compounds are known to have antibacterial,antifungal and antioxidant propert

Spain became a net receiver country of a high number of foreigners entering the labour market in the first decade of the 21 st century. The ensuing economic crisis, beginning in 2007, led to the destruction of a large number of companies and jobs. The objective of this paper is to analyze the relationship between educational level, employment and economic activity, in the Spanish and foreign working population in the Spanish labour market and the impact that the economic crisis is having on employment and self-employment. The hypotheses considered have been as followed--HI： The economic crisis mainly affects the less educated working population, both Spanish and foreign; H2： Self-employment is characterized by being an initiative of a working population with low educational levels for both population groups （Spanish and foreign）; H3： Employment is related to the productive economic structure. Micro-data from the Labour Force Survey 2009 （EPA in Spanish） has been used, compiled by Spains National Statistics Office （INE in Spanish）, and it has been applied Multiple Correspondence Analysis （MCA） to detect possible associations among the study variables （nationality, level of education, salaried employment, self-employment and economic activity）. The results show significant differences between both groups： Spanish and foreign working population. The study also shows how the crisis affects employment, and the important role played by the educational level of the working population, especially foreigners employed in certain economic activities.

Industrial and agricultural activities lead to the release of rare earth elements(REEs)in wastewater and aquatic ecosystems,and their accumulation in ***,the behavior of REEs in soils remains somewhat *** the present work the fractionation and fixation of REEs in soddy-podzolic and chernozem soils spiked with La,Ce,and Nd chlorides were studied using dynamic(continuous flow)extraction,which allows natural conditions to be mimicked and artefacts to be *** eluents applied are aimed to dissolve exchangeable,specifically sorbed,bound to Mn oxides,bound to metal-organic complexes,and bound to amorphous and poorly ordered Fe/Al oxides fractions extractable by 0.05 mol/L Ca(NO_(3))2,0.43 mol/L CH_(3)COOH,0.1 mol/L NH_(2)OH·HCl,0.1 mol/L K_(4)P_(2)O_(7) at pH 11,and 0.1 mol/L(NH4)_(2)C_(2)O_(4) at pH 3.2,*** is found that the fixations of added La,Ce,and Nd in the form of metal-organic complexes is predominant for both types of soils:35%-38%in soddy-podzolic soil and 50%-79%in *** fixation of added elements in the first three fractions(exchangeable,specifically sorbed,and bound to Mn oxides)is significant for soddy-podzolic soil(5%-25%).For chernozem,the relative contents of added Ce and Nd in these fractions are nearly *** the content of exchangeable La is notable,about 5%.Adding any of three elements(La,Ce,or Nd)at the level of100 mg/kg to an initial sample results in changing the fractionation and bioaccessibility of other REEs present in *** contents increase in the first three fractions and decrease in fifth(oxalate extractable)fraction for both soddy-podzolic soil and *** main difference is the behavior of REEs in pyrophosphate extractable *** soddy-podzolic soil,adding La,Ce,or Nd results in decreasing the contents of other REEs associated with organic *** chernozem,on the contrary,the contents of REEs in the form of metal-organic complexes slightly *** processes

One of the main results of this paper shows that an L^1 to L^q Poincaré inequality for some 01, i.e.. (f_b|f-f_b|~q dv)^(1/q)≤cr(b) f_b gdμ, for all metric balls b b_0. will suffice to imply the above representation formula. As an immediate corollary, we can show that the weak-type condition. sup_(λ>0)(λv({x ∈ b:|f(x)-f_b|>λ}))/v(b)≤Gr (b)f_b gdμ. also implies the same formula. Analogous theorems related to high-order Poincaréinequalities and Sobolev spaces in metric spaces are also proved.

AIM: To evaluate the effect of relaxing music during colonoscopy under low-dose conscious sedation, on patient satisfaction, scope insertion time and procedure duration, medication doses, and the perceived adequacy of sedation and scope insertion difficulty on the part of the endoscopist. METHODS: One hundred and sixty-seven consecutive adult outpatients presenting for routine colonoscopy under low-dose conscious sedation were randomized to undergo their procedures either with music played during the procedure or no music played. RESULTS: There were no statistical differences between the two groups in terms of meperidine dose, midazolam dose, time to reach the cecum, total procedure time, endoscopist assessment of scope insertion difficulty, endoscopist assessment of adequacy of sedation, or the pain experience of the patients during their procedure. The music group did report significantly better overall procedure satisfaction as compared to the non music group on two of our three different scales. CONCLUSION: While music does not result in shortened procedure times, lower doses of sedative medications or perceived patient pain, the patients who have music playing during their procedures report modestly greater satisfaction with their procedures.

Inhalation treatment of lung cancer: the influence of composition, size and shape of nanocarriers on their lung accumulation and retention

Objective： Various nanoparticles have been designed and tested in order to select optimal carriers for the inhalation delivery ofanticancer drugs to the lungs. Methods： q-he following nanocarriers were studied： micelles, liposomes, mesoporous silica nanoparticles （MSNs）, poly propyleneimine （PPI） dendrimer-siRNA complexes nanoparticles, quantum dots （QDs）, and poly （ethylene glycol） polymers. All particles were characterized using the following methods： dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, atomic force microscopy, in vitro cyto- and genotoxicity. In vivo organ distribution of all nanopartides, retention in the lungs, and anticancer effects of liposomes loaded with doxorubicin were examined in nude mice after the pulmonary or intravenous delivery. Results： Significant differences in lung uptake were found after the inhalation delivery of lipid-based and non-lipid-based nanoparticles. The accumulation ofliposomes and miceUes in lungs remained relatively high even 24 h after inhalation when compared with MSNs, Q Ds, and PPI dendrimers. There were notable differences between nanoparticle accumulation in the lungs and other organs 1 and 3 h after inhalation or intravenous administrations, but 24 h after intravenous injection all nanoparticles were mainly accumulated in the liver, kidneys, and spleen. Inhalation delivery of doxorubicin by liposomes significantly enhanced its anticancer effect and prevented severe adverse side effects of the treatment in mice bearing the orthotopic model of lung cancer. Conclusion： The results of the study demonstrate that lipid-based nanocarriers had considerably higher accumulation and longer retention time in the lungs when compared with non-lipid-based carriers after the inhalation delivery. These particles are most suitable for effective inhalation treatment of lung cancer.

A global existence theorem is established for an initial-boundary value prob- lem, with time-dependent boundary data, arising in a lumped parameter model of pulse combustion; the model in question gives rise to a nonlinear mixed hyperbolic-parabolic sys- tem. Using results previously established for the associated linear problem, a fixed point argument is employed to prove local existence for a regularized version of the nonlinear problem with artificial viscosity. Appropriate a-priori estimates are then derived which imply that the local existence result can be extended to a global existence theorem for the regularized problem. Finally, a different set of a priori estimates is generated which allows for taking the limit as the artificial viscosity parameter converges to zero; the corresponding solution of the regularized problem is then proven to converge to the unique solution of the initial-boundary value problem for the original, nonlinear, hyperbolic-parabolic system.

Retinal degeneration is a major contributor to visual dysfunction *** it comprises several eye diseases,loss of retinal pigment epithelial(RPE)and photoreceptor cells are the major contributors to their *** therapies included diverse treatments,such as provision of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor and many survival and trophic factors that,in some cases,slow down the progression of the degeneration,but do not effectively prevent *** finding of stem cells(SC)in the eye has led to the proposal of cell replacement strategies for retina *** using different types of SC,such as retinal progenitor cells(RPCs),embryonic SC,pluripotent SCs(PSCs),induced PSCs(iPSCs),and mesenchymal stromal cells,capable of self-renewal and of differentiating into multiple cell types,have gained ample *** preclinical studies have assessed transplantation of SC in animal models,with encouraging *** aim of this work is to revise the different preclinical and clinical approaches,analyzing the SC type used,their efficacy,safety,cell attachment and integration,absence of tumor formation and immunorejection,in order to establish which were the most relevant and *** addition,we examine the questions and concerns still open in the *** data demonstrate the existence of two main approaches,aimed at replacing either RPE cells or *** evidence suggests that RPCs and iPSC are the best candidates,presenting no ethical concerns and a low risk of *** trials have already supported the safety and efficacy of SC *** concerns are pending,such as the risk of tumor formation,lack of attachment or integration of transplanted cells into host retinas,immunorejection,cell death,and also ***,the amazing progress in the field in the last few years makes it possible to envisage safe and effective treatments to restore vision loss in a near future.
